IF YOU CAN'T FIND THE PERSPECTIV FREE DISTORT TOOL: - Select an Object - Click in the Toolbar on Free Transform Tool - A mini-toolbar of four tools should appear with the Perspective Free Distort Tool. If you don't see it, look UNDER the great toolbar, the mini-toolbar might be there. (Great work, Adobe! 👎)

after a bit of frustration I fixed the problem. you have to expand your image, it seems to work the same as when you create outlines for your text. its under properties > quick actions

If you're like me and you miss the little details sometimes, take note: you have to click on the object for the flyout menu to show up. Don't forget to select the object first.

Never mind it was just acting janky the updates have been trippy for me idk why ps and Illustrator acts up a lot and usually whenever it’s crunch time for a project SMH it’s annoying to pay for the suite and deal with it so often.

@@samcasey5143 you might need to contact Adobe but try updating first then restart your system. It was a glitch in their system for me it could be the same issue for you. Let me know if that works.

And create ‘outlines’ means is you change it from a ‘font’ (which may not be available) into a ‘graphic’ which can be accepted and printed by anyone. So you are merging in the font and design into one ‘graphic’ image.

💗Loving your succinct ids, BUT 😏 ... I'm 48 and have used Illustrator (off & on) for 20+yrs, however, I'm trying to learn WHY a 'square' turned 45degrees, will not allow me to simply 'free distort' using the free transform tool. Any other custom shape or outline txt will but not a standard fixed Square/Circle etc.🤷‍♀ eg. I've want to create a simple tiled floor drawing, make square turn on it's side (looking like a diamond) aI then want to squich it vertically. You'd think I can grab the top handle of it's selection and reduce vertically, but it doesn't, it scales the whole thing retaining it's scale lock' - it's proving difficult to find an answer on youtube or google. If I do, I'll be sure to come back and update!

Because Illustrator is a vector design application, so it's intended for working with vector objects and not photos. This can done in a photo editing application though, like Photoshop or GIMP.

This only works with vector graphics. To do this with an image you'd need to use a raster-based editor, like Photoshop or GIMP if you want a free alternative.

It only works with vector objects. If you try doing this with a pixel-based image it will behave as you've described.
