I was so happy to see this. She is my absolute favorite singer of any genre. So talented, warm and stunningly beautiful. My only complaint with this document was that there were no singers talking about her. No Domingo, No Carerras, No Te Kanawa, No Cotrubas, Not even Marily Horne....I would have loved to hear more from people who actually sung with her. Yes, I know the host is a singer, but I meant the interviews. Oh, hearing this one guy call her "difficult" *eyeroll* everything else I've heard says she was the opposite. She was passionate about the music. She said herself, she was a servant to the composer. I don't believe for one second she was the difficult one.

I was only lucky enough to see her a few times onstage. Adriana Lecouvreur at the Met, and I said to myself, "I will never hear a more beautiful sound than this." And also scenes from The Ring at the New York Philharmonic, where she sang Brunnhilde. I asked to meet her, and waited patiently while she signed pictures of herself in beautiful gowns and jewels. When I reached her dressing table, she signed a picture......holding the head of John the Baptist!! I don''t know why she chose it, but I still have it framed on the wall.

17:20 Norma is a mezzo part? That's new to me! She did also sing Adalgisa, though, which is indeed considered a mezzo role, although nowadays it's often sung by a soprano. But then they are showing the cover of the 1973 RCA recording in which she sang the title role (which is definitely a soprano part!)

Both roles were written for a soprano voice. However, because the role of Adalgisa delves into the mezzo soprano registre, it was taken over the years by mezzos with easy high notes.

Gracias.

Having seen many films of her, where she speaks of what she feels, before I saw this, and have read the reviews of performances, she was very “human” warm Funny. a diva yes, often canceled for frivolous reasons, enjoyed life, came from poverty during the civil war in Spain, she lived a good life, very religious, various health problems, close family, grandparents took care of the kids, she wasn’t perfect but when she was “on” it was as near perfection as one could get. She could laugh at herself. Very much loved.
