Hasbro has been getting pretty cheap when it comes to region specific packaging these days. Like when they released some Walmart exclusive GI Joe toys, the character bios for the figures are filled with so many different languages that there’s barely any of the original bio text that’s left. So the chances of Slag being called “Slag” on packaging outside of the UK is looking pretty slim at the moment.

Yeah, it's kind of annoying how they do that. It's especially bad on the BW Reissues where they've crammed so many languages on the box they had to truncate all the text blurbs to fit them.

Having now obtained a copy, what I have to say about the backpack is that either they made a running change that fixed it, or you odn't have it collapsed down far enough to engage properly - I cna pick my Slag up by it and wave him around without having it come loose. The gold fake-toes should be aligned flat with the bottom of the main torso, and the little grey lever between them nested into the slot on his spine so it's got two little ears snugged up over it on either side diagonally. It is tricky to get the alignment right at first, but after checking how firmly it held stright out of the box I knew there was something iff when it was super-floppy after transforming to dino and back until I got it further squished in there.

Neat that the 3P answer to the tail was to make it into a shield, which is dumb when it's car windows but rad when it's a tall curved slab of golden metal with horns on top

It's funny how we were so opposed on this. I still think it's a good figure, but the Aesthetics aren't up to the level, and the Backpack is TERRIBLE. I think part of it is how I have to Grade on a Curve because I've messed with basically EVERY Grimlock figure there is and it's definitely doing a lot more right than most others.

I feel much the way about this that you feel about earthrise vs siege prime. I was going into slag with sky high expectations after the “soul shattering guitar solo” that is grimlock and it’s just not that for me. It really doesn’t help that qc is atrocious on mine, with the lower knee joint being really loose and that plays terribly with the back heavy nature of the figure. But overall, I can’t hate it. (Excellent video by the way)

Thank you very much, and yeah this just doesn't live up to the Grimlock none of my joints are particularly loose, if anything half of them are way too strong, but the backpack is just so egregious. I'd say this is a 9 out of 10 if it weren't for the backpack. But it kicks it down two points at least. Thank's for the help getting this guy.

This is why I like your reviews more. You point out stuff that other reviewers don't. Nobody mentioned how loose that back pack was. That said, I get why the tail is there. I THINK the alt mode feet were hanging out on the side of his shin in the original figure. This time they hid those legs inside his shins, but that means there's no way to hide the tail. I think both this and the Grimlock are some of the best ever made, and yet disappointing at the same time because of minor flaws. Small flaws that could have easily been fixed to make them amazing. As it is, both dinobots are good, but not great

JUST picked this guy up. So much happier with him than I was with Grimlock. Even kinda like the Daniel figurine. The articulation is interesting and clever. Plus, the transformation has _multiple_ clever bits. I do have the same issue with the wings popping off, but my backpack stays in place and the Dino mode clicks together in a manner I find extremely satisfying.

Every review I've seen says that the backpack has my same troubles, and many people have confirmed to me the same... I didn't even realize it was possible to get a working backpack. And I like the Grimlock because it's doing exactly the things it always does but well for once. Though I get why you would find this transformation more interesting.

I love my SLAG too, but it kills that the Cyberverse Slag has the much better tail transformation. They could've done something to collapse that backpack. Instead they remembered they gotta add in Daniel too.

Maybe it’s Because of where I bought it (universal, went on a trip there went on the transformers ride, went to gift shop, collectors heaven! there was menasoars, and Titan arcs on shelves! crazy right? SUPER overpriced tho) but I, fortunately don’t have any QC problems, like at all (I tend to get really lucky with QC) To be fair this guy was $80 (got him as a present) So maybe the QC was better there, I just know that I love him, and he’s a great companion to grimlock. Also, my favorite thing to do with Daniel (besides in the garbage) is hook him on to the little bars on slag’s neck and pose him in a way that looks like he’s holding on for dear life

Funny enough, Slog is the name of the Dinobot from Age of Extinction who resembles Sludge. I had to go back and double check because when you said Slog, my mind went to the weird AOE toy that i saw years ago. This figure though is pretty solid outside of the back issues it has. I was concerned that i was too rough pulling it out of the box, but nope. Turns out it's hope holding the backpack in place

The piece that is responsible for making the knees ratchet completely shattered on mine literally it's just a small piece of plastic that is just chucked in there and whenever you move to knees the ratchet makes it flex and so it broke

I've said it once and I'll say it again, those Daniel and Wheelie figures should've been mail away exclusive bonus, that way we'd get actual quality figures out of them. Also, use the tape trick I mentioned in about Kingdom Rodimus, I had the same problem with my 86 Grimlock's wings.

I do appreciate that the faux mouth sorta takes the Siege Starscream approach and doesn't actually try to look like a mouth. Like WE know it was the mouth originally, but it's not the color of the mouth and it doesn't have teeth. I'm not sure it even really still qualifies as a faux part given that it makes no effort to resemble this figure's mouth.

After messing with the chest a little, I was able to make the chest piece pretty satisfying to put in. Also my Daniel is the only part of my copy that is super tight, and it's all ball joints, so you can probably put 2 and 2 together and guess that the only thing I don't like is Daniel

Well no that's not accurate, Slug means a type of Solid Shotgun projectile, which people sometimes use to mean a bullet, but that's like calling a house a Skyscraper. Now that could make sense either way, but it is so much less frequently used than as the name of the Mollusk, so that's not what comes to anyone's mind first.

I missed out on Grimlock, so I had to grab SLAG while he was still on shelves at my local WallyWorld. Even though he was always my least favorite dinobot, he IS a fantastic.... except for that backpack! I'm also not thrilled with the leg ratchets. While. they are very...ratchety...they also are very wobbly. There's such gaps between the ratchet teeth that it's almost hard to get him to stand sometimes

Well for an upgrade kit, if the backpack isn’t pinned in, someone like DNA Design could make an entire new backpack with pinned in wings and perhaps a better tabbing system. If the pack pack is pinned in though, well pins haven’t stopped third party upgrade kits in the past-most notable from what I’ve seen being the upgrade on that one Optimus figure in order to get Nova Prime-but it will be a process to swap out pins.

Yeah, the backpack of his tail, hinges, and wings needed improvements. Same with pegging in the chest piece. Some tab connections could have been better. The faux forming design, feet being part of the tail instead on his back. I don't mind. But the dino feet joints looks weak. Besides that, Dinobot Slag is a pretty cool figure. Looking forward to the other Dinobots for Studio Series 86. -And the Daniel Witwicky, in exosuit, mini-figure.... just like Wheelie, there's no excuse for it to just be a stick figure. Could have been transformable to it's mobile mode. Yeah, it would just be him laying on his front, but at least it would do something other than pose.

I personally love this thing way more than grimlock. The biggest issue I had was the loose backpack but I found a way to lock it in a lot nicer (lol also tweeted you a picture of it) idk if it’ll work on all copies but worth a shot if it’s been an issue

@@PerspectiveEnd there is a little notch of the tail that I just had to use some pressure on to get it to bend. It didn’t stress any plastic and has gotten easier after the first time I did it. I just kind of pushed the grey section through until it went, but I also know if you just pop the entire tail off then put it on how it was in the pic, it may be easier to pop it back into its Dino configuration. And while I love grimlock, this fig just has more character to me. I find the articulation works a bit smoother and my grimlocks legs like to come undone (not super loose but noticeable), so after finding the trick with the tail slag feels much more solid. That is to say I also haven’t had any issues with the wings or horns popping off like others have. And I just like the aesthetics they went with for it. I think the Dino mode has much more personality, though that may just be because we have so many gridlocks that turn into that same T-Rex while I don’t feel like slag has had a perfect Dino mode done. It just feels more fun and interesting with its engineering, and has different proportions to slags we’ve seen in the past like the fans toys which I just don’t like. I like the bots to have variety in body type so the wide shoulders and all his proportions just work really well for me and scream Slag. Also he’s my favorite dinobot in general lol so that doesn’t hurt.

When I was a kid, I managed to win a Slag (G1 80's...yeah I'm that old) in a game of marbles, instead of taking his jumbo steelie. No instructions or weapons.....just the figure. It was broken within a week. I had no idea you had to pull the leg joints at the screw out, in order to rotate his legs into his al mode and push back. So none of these nit picks of the 86 Dinobots are pissing me off too....much. (Fixed the backpack temporarily by a bit of paper to add more seal on the pins) And not going to lie....some major nostalgia boners going on with a few of the 86 animated film figures.

I don't know what the design team was smoking, but the way the tail on SS86-7 Slag works? That ain't how it happened in the movie or the show. The old PotP Deluxe class figure not only got the tail right (it splits and folds into the legs), it also didn't force you to use the gun to fill it out!! But, similar to most Kingdom & SS86 figures, gonna have to hunt online if I wanna get this guy. (And Scourge & Grimlock)

I don't know about that, considering the 86 line is SLAYING it and that doesn't mean they love them the most, its just the 2007 movie made a billion dollars so they had money to throw around, and the reason they've not been as good since, is because they made progressively less money every movie after.

I know I'm getting a little ahead of myself, but how do you feel about the cursed G1 Bulkhead and G1 Prime Arcee? those toys do awful things to my headache. also, Laser Prime's pretty neat, but honestly, much like the Siege Galaxy Upgrade...I can't get as excited as I want to, and for the dumbest of reasons...I can just get the Maketoys Battle Sentinel for like...$25 more ($75+ship vs $50+tax+ship). Gento's an amazing little core-bot, and with the Tanker's armor bits...man it just looks like one of those sorts of toys you can't stop posing because it has *all* of the joints.

@@PerspectiveEnd Gento IS the core bot. It’s meant to be a replacement for the Reveal the Shield Laser Prime, so you don’t need to seek out an older toy for the Tanker. “Battle Tanker” is just the tanker, “Gento” is the Core Bot, “Battle Sentinel” is Gento and the tanker together.

Slag's alt mode back legs have always bugged me. Triceratops has massively longer legs in the back compared to the front. Adjusting them down makes it worse in my opinion! You're right, the "bump" on his chest would be a herpes sore in his mouth...I hate it.

As the only SS86 figures I have (Wave 1 still hasn't shown up here, and probably won't at all, and I'd imagine Wave 2 will be the same) I love both Grimlock and Slag, but I think Slag is slightly weaker between them, while still a stellar figure. Also, fully agree about the whole Slag name debacle. Even if it was an overly offensive word in the UK (tho honestly, anything these days is "offensive") I don't see why it should apply to everywhere else in the world.

I finally figure my problem with this toy and by extension all Slug figures They don't have the one thing that made Triceratops the 2nd most dangerous herbivore of its time, a ball jointed neck that can stab omni-directionally. IK the Horns are the instant visual appeal but to me, i found it so cool that Triceratops is the ONLY animal ever in the history of earth that has ball joint in the neck that could turn 360 degrees. And that amount of accurate stabbing should be as revered as the T-Rex bite force imo. Planet X FOC Slug is close but his frilles get in the way which was NOT a problem for an IRL Triceratops The Robot Mode can be Classics Ironhide for all I care all i want is that one piece of real-world articulation
