@@NicholeGreco I got a 122 because I didn't review at all and I got pissed, so now I am going through practices and reviews, but I'm sorry to say this one was common sense to me. I feel frustrated and defeated because I don't know exactly what to go over when I find myself doing reviews and I already know everything.
@NicholeGreco3 жыл бұрын
@@THEBOSS47MLG I completely understand feeling frustrated and defeated by the overwhelming amount of material out there and determining the best way to approach the PERT test. Based on your score and not preparing for it, I am sure you remember a lot of the facts and formulas that would have helped you earn that 122, but maybe there were little, tiny mistakes that crept onto your paper without knowing it. No calculator can sometimes lead us to think 6 x 9 is 56 instead of 54 or accidentally placing the x into the y-spot, or simply making one tiny mistake in our calculation can lead us to a wrong answer, which ultimately changes the trajectory of the test. Once you miss a harder (higher point) question the next few questions will be lowered to bring you back down to a level of math questions you can successfully answer which would carry fewer points. You start out with 50 points and build from there based on the complexity of the question and if you are getting them correct or not. If you want to earn a 123, then throughout 60 questions (really only 55 because I am pretty sure they have 5 "test" questions that do not hurt or help you but count for data collecting purposes) you will need to collect 73 points! Which is totally doable! My plan to earn that last point would be to watch the Box Method Strategy and Plug and Chug Strategy videos I made for my students in Pinellas county. The Box Method is a strategy used to gain some points with questions that ask us to factor or that ask us to multiply polynomials. These questions can carry more points because they are further along in Algebra 1/Algebra 2 material. The Plug and Chug is also a strategy used to tackle questions like Solving a System of Equations that carry more points! Check them both out and hopefully, you will earn that score you are searching for!! Keep me updated if you can!! :) Here are the links to the videos. Thank you so much for your videos! Your methods helped more than you can even understand! I am 30, so I left HS some time ago, but I've always struggled with Math BIG TIME! I was born and raised in Jamaica and had missed out on many a Math classes during HS, so it caused me to be clueless when I did attend the classes. Other subjects came effortlessly though, but not Math. I did not know what to expect on the PERT and wanted to have a genuine assessment of where I was at academically, so I opted not to do any kind of review before doing the complete battery of tests on January 5th, 2021. I scored as follows: Reading: 139/150 Writing: 145/150 Math: 101/150 I proved to myself that I still totally sucked at Math, but was great in the other subject areas. I considered for a while if I wanted to re-do the Math part of the test or not, and after prodding from my husband, little brother who loves Math and is in Med school, I still decided to start at the developmental level and build from there. It was not until I went to bed on January 9th and had a dream that I actually took it a second time and got a 119 that I decided to try again. I jokingly kept telling everyone how I dreamt I got 119 on my 2nd attempt, so let me do it again. Did a Zoom session with my little brother (he's 20) and went over the PERT topics and i was weak in so many areas. I FELT DUMB! After that night, i decided to watch a few videos on KZbin that could help me and then to do a few practice tests and felt the most confident after watching your videos. I scheduled the 2nd attempt for 1/19/2021 and that day came and I spent suuuuper long on that attempt - - over 3 hours, which is about the time I had spent on all parts of the PERT test when I had done it. At the end of the 2nd attempt of PERT Math, I was blown away when I saw that I really got the 119 I told everyone I dreamt about. 🤣 I could not believe it! I got 119 on 1/19. Including my little brother, you helped a whole lot! THANK YOU!!!

@Annemaria Dunne I have other videos, and your biggest bang for your buck (the most points you can get and is a super easy trick) is the Plug and Chug method. There is a system of equations problem that everyone always gets, and it is a simple plug and chug but it is worth a lot of points because it is categorized as an Algebra 1/Algebra 2 problem. Check out the video here kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKi1modjp5uGr7c Good luck 🍀

@@liannacarina I have other videos that will ensure you pass!! If you were to only watch one of them, I highly recommend the Plug and Chug method! That is a secretive way of saying x = -2 and y = 4, then you take those values and "plug" them into their variable and proceed to "chug" your way through the problem :) Check it out here kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKi1modjp5uGr7c

Can you explain number 12?
@NicholeGreco2 жыл бұрын
Apologies, it took me a while to reply :) Since we are solving for x, we have to "undo" what's being done to x, and between the 2 and the 5, we have to start with the 5 because the two is "locked" in by multiplication to the x. Step 1: Since we are dividing by 5, the "undo" operation is to "multiply" both sides by 5, which results in 5u = 2x Step 2: The last step is to move the 2 to the other side; since 2 is connected to x by multiplication, we have to "undo" that with "division," so divide both sides by 2, which results in 5u/2 = x Now that x is by itself, we have solved for x. Did that help?

@NicholeGreco3 жыл бұрын
There are 30 questions and the questions start at a value of 1 point and increase in value based on the complexity of the problem. The highest score possible is 150 points, and everyone starts with 50 points. Found this from Google ;) The PERT math placement test is composed of 25 multiple choice questions and 5 additional questions that are more open-ended. It uses a computer-adaptive scoring system that alters the difficulty of questions as students make their way through the exam.

Question 5 is confusing for me, can anyone explain the ending of problem 5 when dividing by 7
@johanneschristopherstahle3395 Жыл бұрын
7y = - x + 21 Since we want to find out what y is, not 7y, we have to divide by 7. 7y : 7 = y -x : 7 = - x/7 = - 1/7 * x 21 : 7 = 3 Everything connected by a + or - sign has to be divided separately. -1/7 x might be confusing. Sometimes it's easier to first rewrite - x into - 1 * x. A variable without a number in front of it always means 1 times that variable. In this case it's minus one times. So you can either divide the variable itself by 7 or the 1 you could write in front of the variable. Since the answers to chose from only contain 1/7, that's what we would have to pick.

I could be wrong be I thought we only flipped the sign when we divide by a negative number. In question 14 we didn’t divide. In the final step of the equation we took away 5 from both sides and was left with 2 is greater than r . When then did we flip the sign to 2 is less than r?
@NicholeGreco3 жыл бұрын
Hello there, great question! Way to be observant ;) In the last step, I rearranged the inequality so the variable was on the left side of the inequality sign... most students prefer the variable on the left, but it is not necessary to be on the left for the answer to be considered correct. The last line was 2 > r --> r < 2 (I rewrote the inequality). I know they "look" different, but those two inequalities represent the same portion of the number line. I'll explain below. The first inequality, 2 > r, reads "2 is greater than r", which mathematically means, "I want 2 to be "greater than" all values of r". The second inequality, r < 2, reads r is less than 2, which mathematically means, "I want all values of r to be "less than" 2. Hopefully looking at it that way demonstrates that the two inequalities at the end are equivalent, and represent the same set of numbers ;)

This symbol / is literally a division sign. So for the first question all she had to do was divide 7 by 8 and that's your answer. So she took a two second math problem and turn it into a 5 minute headache.
@NicholeGreco3 жыл бұрын
Hey Ashley, unfortunately the PERT test doesn't allow calculators on these type of "easy" problems and sometimes students don't remember the process to divide two numbers. That is why I took a 2 second math problem and turned it into a 5 minute part of the 21 minute video :) But thank you for letting me know that the bar in between a numerator and a denominator is the division sign :) Are you planning on taking the PERT test? If so, prepare for it without the use of a calculator.
