Wow, that is scary, what's more annoying though is that if these replica/fake makers of watches can do this good a job, why not make their own, clearly they have tooling and everything to do it. Why not just go legit? Well, I know why, but it is annoying. Honestly if I had the fake in hand (without the original) I'd probably never know. Thanks for highlighting this issue.
@alexsdg34414 жыл бұрын
regards to "why not just go legit?", i believe that most of fake Chinese companies can not go to legit due to the lack of marketing strategies, distribution channel (being in China) and most likely lack of FUND to set up many things that legit companies need. for me, one of the mos legit companies (still making a lot of homage watches) is San Martin coming directly from China. considering their quality and fit/finish, it would be double their selling price, only if they were marketing from USA side. (Ginault is the perfect example!)
@PerthWAtch4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree with Alex here... many "legit" companies do heavy homages of established designs, effectively having zero design cost. These rarely get above the swarm of such companies doing so, San Martin being a rare breed. To do something different and special involves cost and effort, which is the hard road many choose not to take...
@EliteSim4 жыл бұрын
@@alexsdg3441 absolutely agree, there's a lot more to making a watch than just making a watch, I was just saying that clearly doing a job like this obviously wouldn't be cheap, so surely they wouldn't be too hard pushed to go legit. Anyways that's a whole different topic. As for marketing, primarily most makers use social media which is pretty much free unless you pay for ads, which again aren't that expensive - from what I gather. But, of course there's still so much more than just marketing and making the watch. I agree about San Martin too, I've had their 62 mas homage and was very impressed with that and I'd definitely get another.
@EliteSim4 жыл бұрын
@@PerthWAtch no doubt, being original isn't cheap and like you said, why so many borrow heavily from more popular designs. Look at Parnis, pretty much their entire catalogue is homages to Rolex, omega, panerai etc. Running a watch company is understandably a lot more complex than just design and manufacture. If you check out SWC on KZbin, the owners go really into detail about what else is involved, they have some really fascinating and insightful videos. I'd definitely recommend checking them out if you haven't already.

Things in the replica world are improving all the time in terms of quality.I cannot for the life of me understand why they would fake a B&R,they're not exactly mainstream when compared to say IWC which would be less of a challenge to fake.We can all see however,how difficult it's becoming to spot a fake without a real one for reference and even then it's still not easy.I just wish these people would use their skills to produce their own brand and make an honest living....................

I have one of the first released versions of this watch and some of the items that don't match the real watch are actually a match for the first versions of these. For example. The more greener loom on the fake matches my watch as does the spacing on the BR 03-92. So the lume and position of the BR03-92 alone are not as good indicators as you may think of a fake. There a a lot of other differences though that are very easy to spot to the first version of these watches though. First version has 4 black screws holding the dial down in line with the bigger screws holding the case down. Also if you flip of the back you it is totally different and has the "do not unscrew" screw that always tempted me to unscrew. Point is if you see the green loom and it doesn't have the 4 black screws holding the dial down then you know it is a fake. Other thing I noticed on the fake was the spacing of the letters are slightly closer together, it is also a common flaw in fake watches that you can look out for.
@PerthWAtch2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. I didn’t know about the black screws - that might be more obvious. Overall it’s rather scary how good these fakes are - one of the points I’m making is that without your real one next to the fake, even an experienced owner can’t tell the difference based on character spacing on the dial. A new buyer has zero chance.

It’s interesting that so many people assume that the only reason someone would buy a fake watch is because they can’t afford the real one. I’d like to share my opinion in the hope of helping some to understand why some of us would go down the path of purchasing a fake watch I have 3 items I like to collect, they are sneakers, perfumes and watches. I only buy original sneakers because 1. The difference in quality is very obvious 2. Majority of sneakers I want are only $300 to $1,000 a pair 3. I’m not going to risk injuring my feet with a fake sneaker that hasn’t passed certain requirements I only buy original perfumes because 1. You have no idea what they’re putting in the fakes 2. The fakes often don’t last as long or smell as good 3. The majority of bottles I want only cost from $100 to $1,000 So now we come to watches and my position is quite different. For me I honestly don’t care about the history of watches, the movement or anything other than the way they look. I’m not showing my collection on social media, I don’t try to sell them or convince anyone they’re real if they’re not. I simply view them as an accessory to the overall outfit So, I have 35 watches and 25 are originals, none cost me more than $1,000 each, they are mainly brands like G-Shock, Citizen & Bulova. I have 10 watches that are replica, they are mostly AP & Rolex. Why did I buy replicas if I can afford the real thing? Well it just doesn’t make sense to me to spend $30k to $100k if I’m not that passionate about watches and in all honesty the replica I purchased which cost on average around $250, looks identical and have lasted at least 2 years If I was going to spend $30k+ I can think of countless other things I’d rather spend it on, so for some of us it’s not about being able to afford it or not, it’s about how much value you place on the item. I can understand the argument about the ethical issues of replicating brands and if it were my design I’d be upset. I have had people copy my work in business so I genuinely understand how frustrating that could be. However, if I buy a couple of replicas a year when I’m on holiday I don’t feel too guilty about it *shrugs*
@PerthWAtch2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking the time and effort to share those detailed thoughts - it is much appreciated! I agree about the error of those assumptions - like in most other circumstances, some (or many) assumptions turn out to be incorrect. Another scenario would be a person who has the real thing, but would rather use a replica if there is higher risk of damage or loss.
@andresurena_2 жыл бұрын
Amazing to read a candid thought like this. Let me add that *regardless* if you can afford it or not, it’s very true someone might just love the design and equally appreciates a good machinery but without the brand overhead -which is kinda of the chicken and the egg thing, but anyhow. That is somewhat the case for myself, I try very deliberately to understand what do I want and, regardless of the price, seek to own it. Which has led me to another question “why do I want it?” (underlies “what do I appreciate?” and “is it really just for me?”). I think a great example are Seiko’s! Beautiful watches, excellent machinery’s but not that much overhead “the Rolex from Japan”. Anyway, this are my two bits. Would purchase an original BR anytime. Cheers mate!

I own a fake BR03 and love it. First thing I tell anyone interested is that it's an knockoff. They still like it after that. i own several +2000$ watches, but Bell&Ross are particularly bad value nowadays. Same goes for my Heimdallr Willard: with a few mods totaling less than 250$ it's far better looking than the Prospex 'reimagining' by Seiko themselves. I know what it is, and the design's heritage, but Chinese is the new value. Their movements will become competitive or even superior as well in a few years.

Hey can I ask where you got the fake from?
@jamienance88212 жыл бұрын
It’s important to know the real thing before you ever consider buying one that is from somewhere other than an AD. But just my observations: the brushing on the back is wrong, if you look at the hands in the center the pin in light colored real one is a very dark bronze, the spacing of the date from the dial has more gap on the fake, and the biggest tell of all is the beat rate an eta 2892 or sellita sw300 has a beat rate of 28800bph where the miyota in the fake is 21600bph. The real one ticks 8 times per second the fake ticks 6 times per second. Always look up the specs for beat rate for the real watch, if it’s 28800 or higher rarely does a fake get this correct unless it is a super high end fake. With that being said from a quick glance it is scary this one is relatively close.
@PerthWAtch2 жыл бұрын
It is scary how good this fake is - without having the real one beside it most owners will not be able to tell the difference. Our minds simply don’t register all these details. You are wrong about the beat rate - you can get watches under $100 with 28800bph movements. Most common cheaper movement is the Miyota 9015.

In the past I've purchased a couple "homage" watches to determine if the real item. Those more unique shapes and sizes, to determine if it was something I could live with. Not sure I understand a full one to one copy, different mind set I guess.
@EliteSim4 жыл бұрын
There's a big difference between a fake and homage. A fake is supposed to be a 1 to 1 copy right down to the branding. A homage borrows the design and details but the big difference is they usually use their own unique branding. Imo there are good homages that respectfully pay homage and then those that just copy everything. Take Steinhart, they aren't direct copies but have clearly had influence then take Parnis and look at their watches.
@PerthWAtch4 жыл бұрын

@@EliteSim Yes there is, the 1 to 1 's feel wrong to me. With a single exception I've only kept a single "homage" watch. I purchased it to wear while I had a Rolex sub repaired, an affordable Sandoz ETA 2824 "swiss" made really Swiss assembled. Anyway I've always kept it as a back up and beater although I rarely wear either now. They others either turned into the real thing or went away. But just can't do fake 1 to 1's as a personal choice.

As a designer I like to wear a nice designed watch. I don't want to pay $3,000 for one to wear gardening or doing construction so I wear the PaKin version of this watch.
