I fully expected to have fitted one of these pertronix kits by now. I put an accuspark setup on my Stag over 9 years ago. It's still working fine and I do around 1200 miles every year. I have an unused spare one in the boot of course!

How do you rate the pertronix and flamethrower coil against the Lumenition ignition system? Please let me know. Fitted to a Stag of course thanks Bob

Never had a lumenition setup. I did have a piranha p8 which was a noticeable upgrade from points. then when that failed me the pertronix setup was a world of improvement. Not sure if that helps, sorry

Grand. Do they make one for a 4 cylinder Tr7 distributor, as the standard one is an evil hate filled lump?

My vacuum advance mechanism on my Stag is sticking. Is there any way to lubricate this effectively without removing the distributor? I think mechanical advance is ok as rotor springs back into position when moved by hand. Fuel economy is terrible although I noticed that distributor cap contacts were a little eroded (not corroded) so could this also hurt economy? Many thanks

Hi David Without seeing the car it is tricky to diagnose. When you suck on the pipe to the vacuum advance you should see the baseplate rotate slightly. if it doesn't then something is wrong. If it doesn't move but you can suck then most likely that the diaphragm inside the housing has failed. If you cannot suck and the baseplate doesn't move then something is wrong inside the distributor. I would be inclined to mark up the base setting, remove it and work out what is wrong

@@churchhouseclassics Many thanks for the reply Richard. The vacuum advance is definitely working as I've tested it with a vacuum pump and indeed it does move the baseplate mechanism with enough 'pull' but the mechanism doesn't return when vacuum released unless I prod it with a screwdriver! Could you explain marking the base setting please in case I have no option but to remove? Cheers.

@@DavidUKesb use correcting fluid to draw a line between the distributor mount place and the engine block. then mark the position of the rotor on the rim of the distributor body. so long as the marks still line up when it goes back together it will run. You would be wise to double check the timing after though

@@DavidUKesb also... with careful use you can remove the vacuum advance and baseplate with the distributor still in place. The baseplate comes in two sections that pivot around the distributor shaft. there is a tiny flat spring that sits in there also. be careful not to loose that as it does allow the baseplate to rotate

You forgot to set the air gap on the patronex
