I'm, maybe, the only mexican fan of the mustangs, and I can't describe this feeling that I have every time I listen Peruna or Pony Battle Cry. Would give almost anything to go to the Gerald Ford Stadium.

A friend of mine from the Longhorn Band said the real lyrics should be "There are only 7 people in our band, there are only 7 people in our band, there are only 7 people there are only 7 people there only 7 people in our band". Then I would remind him of an SMU bumper sticker I once saw in north Dallas that said "OUR MAIDS WENT TO UT".

My dad Jay Dakelman was a football coach and loved college football marches. I will have to pull out, record and post his 1939 Decca record PERUNA which is still in the family record collection.

"Peruna" was a famous elixir from the late 19th century. The song lyrics are: "She'll be loaded with Peruna when she comes" in place of "She'll be comin around the mountain when she comes" - not quite a potato.

No, Peruna actually is the fight song. Pony Battle was written until the 1960's to compliment Peruna, not replace it.

A ..Shetland Pony! Well then they should be the Southern Methodist Shetland Ponies. How can you call yourself the Mustangs and have a Shetland Pony for a mascot? The Oregon Ducks mascot must be a trip. Do they even dare to................... Couldn't they think of a little more, I don't know, tough or whatever than a duck. They are a great team too. That's the team player's motto, "Go fuck a duck." Go figure.

It has been the SMU fight song since 1932. If you want a treat, check out a newspaper from 1901-1905 and be amazed by the incredible amount of advertising for Peruna and many, many other patent medicines. Thank goodness for the Food & Drug Administration! Peruna was 28% alcohol, I think. No wonder she'll be loaded when she comes!
