Some people believe it is, Others think 6 is superior, I think it's down to preference. PES 5 is a lot more realistic (and more difficult) with emphasis on build up play, Context and timing with defending and PES 6 is a bit more accessible and slightly more arcade but still plays fantastic football. But Winning Eleven 9: Liveware Evolution is the game that came out between both of these games and is often considered the greatest of all time as it takes the best bits of both games.
