The Palomar Knot is the strongest fishing knot in many situations. This knot only has 3 steps making it extremely powerful and very basic. Since there are not many twist and kinks in this knot it makes it extremely tough to break. It can be used on Braided line and Mono-filament.

@marks45172 жыл бұрын
That is my personal favorite, but it doesn't work in every application. I fish with hulapoppers often in the summer. The cup on the face makes the Palomar almost impossible to rig. For these situations the knot in the video is my best option.
@ahndeux2 жыл бұрын
Palomar Knot is a 90% knot AT BEST. It breaks every single time on the knot. Only the Trilene knot is a 100% knot. I ran over 40 tests on the Trilene and it is a much better knot than the Palomar. The Palomar is also not useful when you need two of the same knots on a swivel since it requires going over the hook or swivel. This knot is very similar to the Trilene, except the line goes through the single loop. The Trilene knot goes through the two loops on the hook. I ran some tests on my automated digital tester and this knot was able to reach 100% knot strength on only one of the test runs. The Trilene is more reliable to get to 100% knot strength. This knot seems a little touchier to get right so I'll stay with the Trilene knot.

@@ahndeux Dude watch old video's of knot wars and you will see that the polomar knot is a 100% knot.
@ahndeux2 жыл бұрын
@@sharongrosscup6956 Not even close. Its not a 100% knot by any sense. Most of those knot "wars" are BS because unless you tie over 100 of the same knots, there is no way you can compare statistically. Every single knot is slightly different and the ONLY way to get useful data is to take a lot of data. I take over 40 calibrated tests per knot and there is no way in HELL the Palomar is 100%. It barely broke past 90% at best.

This knot, and the variants of it will be good for 98% of the light fishing you do. Tensile strength studied have shown it's not the strongest but it's still the best. I lure fish for Bass on the Llyn Peninsula in N Wales where I live and have caught them up to 12lb from the shore. I use Daiwa sensor 8lb bs and rarely if ever lose a fish. I’ve also caught Pollock up to 8lb from the same marks on exactly the same tackle. I tried braid some years ago and found that it does not fish anywhere near as good as light nylon as it doesn’t cast as far and doesn’t cut through the water like nylon. Nylon is far far cheaper and much better than braid to lure fish with p.
@ryanpark20493 жыл бұрын
@@happyguy5414 eh braid has it's uses, for example top shotting half a spool with mono or flouro on top of the braid which takes weight off the spool. Fishing the thick on top with frogs or bottom with jigs.
@happyguy54143 жыл бұрын
@@ryanpark2049 I agree with you that braid definitely has its uses especially when fishing for very big fish or in very deep waters from a vessel. However I’ve switched back to light nylon from braid for all of my shore lure fishing for Bass. 6 - 8lb nylon will out cast braid by a long way and light nylon doesn’t suffer from wind blow like braid does. It also cuts through the surface film much better providing a real advantage with shallow diving plugs. Also nylon is far cheaper than braid meaning you can change a couple of hundred meters every 6 or so outings as I do. Since changing back to 8lb Daiwa clear sensor a couple of years back, my Bass catch rate has quadrupled compared to what I’ve been catching on braid over the last 10 years and I’m fishing with the same lures at the same marks.

@@emach07 Always used the Trilene vs. a Palomar so really can't comment on the latter. The Trilene was the one that failed a few times with fluorocarbon and braid. With the Miller, the secret is to use enough tag end to make that last loop big enough to fit both your thumb and index finger through. If the loop is too small it's nearly impossible to get that tag end back through. And that last rotation looks complicated but is really simple after tying a couple times. Tight lines!

Looks like a blood knot to me with the exception of making two loops in the eye of the hook instead of one.

Great basic (and reasonably) strong knot. However I would only use it for hooks with a straight eye. For hooks with an out-turned eye (as in the video) a snell knot is much better. Especially with braid. It gives the hook a superior angle to actually hook the fish.

Exactly! That hook in this demo gives the wrong application for this knot.

Definitely one of the best knots of all time for monofiliment and flourocabon
@stillwater623 жыл бұрын
It looks like a weak version of the Trilene Knot because he did not go through both loops at the hook eye, which in tying the Trilene Knot, you do. The Trilene Knot is very strong in monofilament but The Palomar Knot, and Uniknot are two of the best for braid, mono, and fluorocarbon lines.

Saliva. Wet your knots. Good, informative thank you.
