Now that you know how to tie this knot, you already know one of the best ways to connect two lines together (e.g. your leader to your main line)! Check it out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZmcZaN8Zad7qsU

What is a good knot to tie some (fitness type grips with a loop) to a 1 meter long climbing rope that is about 2/3 cm thick. So one grip is is attached on each end of the rope so i can use it like a make shift face pull attachement/row grip attachement. All help is appreciated 🙏🏻🙌🏻

My dad passed away on March 11th 2024 after a sudden cardiac arrest. I'm his only daughter and just turned 19, we used to go fishing every year on my birthday and I really miss it. There are a lot of skills of his that I didn't get to learn, tying a fishing hook is one of them. Thank you for this video, now I'll be able to keep me and my dad's fishing tradition alive hopefully 😊🙏🏽

I learned knots in Ranger School in 88, and I still use several of them. We "dress down" the knot to tighten it, by pulling each part out a little, alternating as you hold the knot. I think you could have less risk of straining your line or your tendons if you used your fingers to slide the wraps into place instead of pure tension. I like your knot, and the wetting is a new trick to me, so thank you.

Really? I've always used the Palomar. This one seems you have to stretch the line more to get the knot to fully seat. Figured it'd be bad on the line, and it only has one loop onto the lure. Hmm.. I may try it. It def looks faster

And several are much easier an faster to tie than the "Uni_ knot. FACTS: Palomar average efficiency rating = 113.5% / Uni knot average efficiency rating = 112.8%. This is a difference that does not make a difference. Your anecdotal story is nothing but evidence of your inability to tie the Palomar correctly. And it is arguably one of the fastest to tie and easiest to tie on the standard knot strength chart. Hillbilly kids where I live are regularly tying this knot at 9 years old. I truly hope that facts don't hurt your wings.

Additionally, when you cinch it down, do not go all the way to the eye, stop about a 1/4" from the eye, hook the hook around something stationary, grab the tag end with your fishing pliers and chinch that tight. Now you have a solid knot with some play between the eye and the line, a good technique for fishing with live bait, gives it a little more flexibility and action. When you have a fish on, it will tighten the uni-knot to the eye tight at that point. The two most important fishing knots all angles need to be able to do in their sleep, the uni-knot and the Bimini twist. Tight lines always! Capt. K

there is practically no difference in their strength efficiency so use which ever one you can tied the easiest. I use the Palomar knot on all but the tiniest of hook eyes. The one difficulty with a Palomar is passing a bight through tiny hooks. I rarely use hooks that tiny so I am usually utilizing the Palomar. But I imagine fly fishermen would use a knot like the Uni ( _AKA the Grinner knot or the Duncan Loop_ ).

Instead of pulling the main line to seat the barrel of the knot, grasp the barrel between your fingertips and slide it home under gentle pressure on the main line. This reduces damage to the line as it makes the turn through the eye of the hook.

Great job on the video, my friend! I really enjoy surf fishing in the southern region of Australia and I focus on catching Mulloway and sharks. When it comes to my swivels, I prefer using the uni knot to tie them onto my 80lb fluorocarbon line. However, I learned a valuable lesson after losing a big fish due to my 4-wrap uni knot giving way. Wrapping 80lb fluorocarbon line over 5 turns can be a bit challenging, especially when coupled with a tendency towards laziness. As a recommendation, I would strongly suggest doing 5 wraps when tying a uni knot with line over 60lb.

After a lifetime of fishing I can’t stress enough how important it is to really wet that line before you cinch it down. If you slide the barrel down to hook carefully with your fingers it’s better than just pulling the mainline until it tightens but with all those turns around the loop there is a lot of friction burn to the line if you aren’t super careful. I often wonder how many PBs or big fish have been lost to people who have tied this knot carelessly and not checked it for strength after it’s tied. I use 0.37mm and 0.40mm mono a lot and you can’t break that with your hands if you do it correctly but I’ve done tests and if it’s done carelessly and without wetting the line it will snap like cotton. Anglers be warned !!!!

@ahndeux
@ahndeux Жыл бұрын
That's one of the reason why I don't like this uni knot. You have to wet the line, especially if its mono to cinch this knot properly. With other knots like the Trilene knot, wetting the line is not needed if you properly cinch down the loops. The main strength it relies on is when the main light is pulled tight, it clamps down on the tag end and puts less stress on the loops around the main line. That's why the Trilene knot is one of the few that is rated up to 100% of the line strength. This knot is closer to a 85% line strength knot based on my own testing. The cinching of the coils on the line is very inconsistent and there are other similar knots that are better where you wrap the coils up the main line, hold the end and wrap it back down in opposite direction. That provides a much more even laying of the coils as you cinch it down than the uni.
@bElLtOn14
@bElLtOn14 Жыл бұрын
@@ahndeux should always wet every knot when you do it .... So it doesn't burn the line, even with the trilene ..
@ahndeux
@ahndeux Жыл бұрын
@@bElLtOn14 Not necessarily. The testing determines if you're tying the knot correct or incorrectly. When you're breaking at the line strength at 100%, the test shows that wetting the knot had zero affect. The line doesn't burn on the Trilene if you cinch it properly. The trick is to slowly cinch it and tug the line until its loosely around the main line. You just slightly tug the end to make sure the coils are around the main line without it super tight against the main line. At that point, you pull tension on the main line and just push the coils up to take up the gap as the line stretches. You don't need to grab the tag end to tighten it up more so the lines don't rub. The strength of the knot is the tag end bites against the two loops on the Trilene and not the coils of line around the main line. I'm saying not every knot needs to be wet. With the uni knot, you DEFINITELY need to wet it given how you chinch the knot requires the line to rub, which is a bad thing in my opinion. That's probably a good reason why it can never reach 100% line strength. With the Trilene knot, I don't wet it and it still breaks at 100%. Could I wet it? Sure. But its not needed if tied properly. The proper cinching is the key.

thank you. I just know this is called uni knot. It is so convenient especially if you do not have a carabiner. I use this knot a lot of times and I kind of discovered or re-invent it coming from fisherman’s knot. Now I know it is called uni knot. I use this knot to pull my buoy, hold my spear gun and its shaft

I used to use the palomar knot exclusively. Several years ago i was on a charter fishing trip and i asked the captain what his favorite knot was. He said the uni. I learned it and havent used any other since.

The Palomar is stronger but only by a fraction. The deciding factor for me when choosing one is the size of the hook's eye. Passing a bight through a tiny eye is a struggle for my old eyes and fingers. Fortunately I use larger hooks for the type of fishing I do. The Uni ( the _Grinner Knot_ ) on ly needs the tag end to pass through the eye instead of a bight.

Pit bull tackle makes a FANTASTIC braid cutter it’s literally like butter and makes the cleanest cuts for the least amount of fray! I’m sure those snips are good but I noticed they struggled a little haha

Awesome, I will check theirs out! Yeah mine in this video was definitely at the end of its life, I actually bought a new one afterwards and it was such a night and day difference. The one I had lasted forever before that, I still love them haha.

Hello, the Fishing Fool knot, aka Modified Uni knot, has been found to be 28% stronger than the Uni knot, and only requires passing the tag end through the lure/ hook eye etc. one extra time at the beginning. Which gives you two points of contact. It's a great knot and I mean you no disrespect Sir... Just trying to help... Tight Lines!!

It's better than similar knot because you only need to pass it through the eye once. This is really good when you're using a jig head with a small eyelet for example. Also it's great for tying leader material to braid and that is what I use for 100% of my fishing.
