This vid is right on time. This is how my front yard looks. I'm holding off till Sept to begin working on it. The yard is on a slope and i'm wondering if to scarify after the seed, peat moss and tackifier has been put down. To increase seed to soil contact and really hold the seed from washing away.

These are great and help out a lot of people, and there is still an entire month to fix things. For future topic, I think I good one would be dealing with a bed of rocks underneath the soil. I using my manual aerator for my 5 minute chore, and noticed that one of my trouble areas, 10'x10' has absolutely no give under the top layer of soil. I can tell the grass struggles, and I think my only options are to lay out more soil to give the grass some roots space.

I will do my best. Same thing happened to me at another house I owned. 60’x3’ in total. I was told it turned out to be an old equestrian path that the grass grew over

I'd recommend digging it all out at least a foot deep and replacing all the soil. I've got a similar size problem in my front yard, and I am sieving the dirt/gravel mixture with wire mesh. Found it using the screwdriver test. If I could get rid of the dirt/gravel mixture easily I would, but its back breaking work. Probably there since the house was constructed. Sieving down to 4.5 mm mesh, see if the area does ok this summer, that's when the grass dies off due to high sun and heat.

So glad to see someone from UT. I love all of your KZbin Videos. I did buy the SUNJOE ElectricScarifier + Dethatcher. I had so much fun using it best of all it saved my back from racking. I have reseeded again for the second time this year and used peat moss on the top and bottom of the neew seed I just put down. Now I am anxiously wating to see if the grass will grow in these areas. I have pictures of my front yard and the progress after using the srufactent for the broad leaf grass. Thanks for the great videos! What kind of fertilizer do you use?

yeah, that's something I always look for when I'm mowing because I do bag my grass, and as soon as I see a trail start, I know it's time to empty the bag; usually, I reach down every so often and lift on the bag to see how full it is, but I have also caught it not getting into the bag because the grass either got too tall when spraying fro weeds or it's too moist from watering, rain or both too tall and didn't let it dry out enough after a good rain. I'm pretty regular about adding nutrients to my soil also; Ironite, Softcal (great option if you don't want to affect the Ph level of the soil and also Humic and Sea Kelp. I've even mixed organic vinegar with the mother in it 50/50 with water and sprayed areas that got a lot of shade and had a problem with mushrooms growing real bad; don't ask me what moved me to try it, but it worked. The one area at my last address was in the shade the greater part of the time, and I had a real time with it. That was the area I used the water vinegar mix! I think part of the problem may have been where I got the top soil mix from, which seemed real good, but I got some real exotic looking mushrooms from it in the back part that didn't get as much shade. The front may have been the same but was affected differently with the mushrooms because of all the shade; they started clumping together in bunches like some kind of fungus or something. Crazy, never seen anything like it before, and I was always treating my lawn for mold prevention when I was watering heavily.

@pestandlawnginja

They’re decent. My only issue is they use a lot of urea. Our region is well known for necrotic ring spot fungus and urea is a catalyst to getting that fungus in soil and Kentucky bluegrass is very susceptible

When you say 45-50 minute watering daily to fix saturation issues do you mean per zone? Maybe me not believing that is the reason I have saturation issues and my grass dries out? Seems like a lot!
@pestandlawnginja

For an average system it will be 45-50 minutes per zone. This won’t be forever. Just until we get the water back into the soil. Keep in mind every system will have different water output per hour. So the numbers are only a ballpark
