I am already fully aware of the benefits of raw feeding, as I have been feeding raw for 17 yrs. But I just want to say, I really appreciate that you said if someone can just do a portion of raw or fresh food, props to them! That is so nice to hear on a video, because it is so true! I work with dogs professionally for a living and I have seen a difference in client's pets that have just gotten a little raw added in!

I have been on a raw feeding journey since March. I began by feeding primal raw instinct frozen meals. I followed that up by trying all of the Dr. Harvey’s complete and base mix options, settling on the base mixes. I decided I wanted to start making my own meals, and began studying PMR feeding because I felt the recipes would be easier for me to build. I stumbled upon the Paws of Prey cheat sheets, formulator, and starter kit. Today, I feed a hybrid diet. One meal each day is a PMR meal I formulated using the Paws of Prey formulator and starter kit. The other meal is a Dr. Harvey’s Raw Vibrance or Veg-to-Bowl meal in accordance to the directions. I will ultimately go with a complete PMR meal, with a small portion of Dr. Harvey’s added in only for a fiber source. That way, if I run out of something needed for a complete PMR meal, I have what I need to balance a meal for my dogs in a pinch. I’m also going to make batches of Dr. Judy Morgan’s Pup Loaf recipe, and serve 1 cooked meal per week, as I learned from another nutritionist that doing so can unlock certain nutrients. I added Gussys Gut, but it’s quite expensive, and I haven’t noticed any improvement after adding it. I may dip my toe in the DIY fermented vegetable making, but I haven’t decided.

First of all, I’d like to say THANK YOU for helping pet owners around the world by making these videos. You’re amazing. I would love if you made content in the future a) reviewing common raw food brands and b)going over raw food watch outs/pitfalls to watch out for when choosing a food. As you’ve said “raw dog food” has now become a buzz word, which I’m sure means both good and bad-intentioned brands are all trying to buy in

Hi, you are helping me research what to feed and how. I was so BLESSED to have had a pet meat processing plant near me in Florida that mixed raw beef/chicken, with vitamins, some veggies, etc. They would then freeze in tubes of 2 pounds each. And provide it in stores for purchase, in a freezer. NOTE: the plant had been a human grade processing plant and that was a bonus. My Pet Store owner REALLY involved himself in nutrition and animal care. He advocated and sold goat milk for years, so I trusted the products. NOW I live elsewhere and have not found similar products or companies. SO, you're help is essential and I will look at your raw diet info. AND def get goat milk. You are so good for pets, you make a difference.

I feed my two dogs raw food since they are only 3 months. I bought the premade raw food from commercial raw food company which combines muscle meats, organs, crushed bones, tripe, salmon and crushed salmon bone. They have variety of meat to choose, such as chicken, turkey, lamb, veal, possum, rabbit, duck, goat, wallaby, venison. I also add some puree vege , blueberries and raw organic eggs to their raw, I add some supplements to their raw, such as salmon oil, flaxseed oil, coconut oil, kelp, green lipped mussel power, bone broth, raw goat milk and goat milk kefir to keep balanced. They are super super healthy!

I’m so confused about all these different dry foods and which ones are good which ones are bad.. it just seems like a bunch of nonsense. So I started making homemade food from scratch in my pressure cooker. The one thing I am hoping you can give me advice on is what is the best vitamins to put in their homemade food so they get all the things that they need.
@dalebailey754Ай бұрын
@@brenblech4739 vitamin e, iodine, manganese, and depending on what you feed, vitamin d can often be deficient in a typical homemade diet. Zinc if you aren’t feeding enough rudiment muscle meat and organ meats. If you aren’t feeding raw meaty bones, calcium as well. I would download a meal formulator or purchase one from many pet nutritionists. This content creator may have one. BK Pets has a KZbin channel, and a new online item for purchase that helps you get ready for home made feeding, with recipes and amounts for every type of meat and size of dog. I bought it because it’s inexpensive, but have yet to make the recipes because I feed Dr. Harvey’s base mixes and have plenty on-hand. I feed both PMR and BARF meals, so I feel both methods are great so long as you are using formulators or recipes that balance the meals. Keep the tail wagging is working on a spreadsheet that you can analyze your meals over a week or month and tell if you are missing something overall so you can react. Cannot wait until that product is finished. I get inspiration from raw and fresh cooked feeders everywhere and apply good ideas I get from all of them to my feeding routine and evolve as I receive more information.

Smaller local pet stores usually carry a bunch of raw food. Although if you have a Pet Supplies Plus near you they have some commercial (pre made) raw as well. My dog is about 55 lbs and he gets fed between 1-1.5lbs of his pre made raw depending on how active he is that day. If you don’t have any pet stores near you that carry raw food there are some great companies that you can get it shipped to you monthly. If you want to do a DIY raw where you buy all the ingredients and put it all together I’d definitely get in contact with a canine nutritionist.

I adored running across small batch pets at my go to pet shop and when wanting to switch my dog to raw as she gets older but sadly completely backfired sending her to the er after 3 weeks. Her system just could not handle or process it. Made this switch with the newton of intention and to keep her in continued perfect heslth and out of the vers office as she has never had s single issue or sensitivity so really was shocked this trial ended so poorly and not only cost me a very expensive upgrade from her already high priced quality dry food but a huge vet bill on top of it and my poor baby going through days of food poisonkng type symptoms. Fresh cooled subsceoptions are ofcourse the most expensive which is why raw which isnt cheap just seemed like a great value among more nutrition and benefits than the cooked fresh. For now going back to my lesser of all evils more quality dry food until fresh cooked is more in my budget.

What was your dog diagnosed with?
@diananemoy74092 жыл бұрын
@@1VanesaHernandez She had extreme dehydration and the effects as if she had food poisoning, stomach bug, parasite etc. Its really crazy because she showed no symptoms the entire month she was eating raw side from just not being super excited about it and not eating her full portion daily. I had not worried much duri g thay tome as endless blogs online of dog owners having this same scenario when transitioning to raw per some dogs just hating change and she would always be begging for human food and her treats as normal. It really wasnt until the point she started vomiting and bloody liquid stools for a few days that didnt ease at all even when stopping feeding those days and giving stomach soothing things like goats milk and pumpkin puree thinking that would get her stomach right. Glad I went to the vet at that point even though she was still acting no differently. She was given an instant fluid drip to rehydrate her at an extra cost of course no surprise compared to them just sending me home with pills only and a shot. Very said he isnt totally against raw but doesnt believe personally all the hype of raw as may work for many but he only sees pets on the extreme end when they react badly and end up there like in my case. Said some dogs regardless breed or size just have systems that cannot process this raw which is why the data my girl was vomiting it was initially the last weeks worth of patties she ate like they were just sitting unprocessed in her system. And ofcourse since I couldnt force her to drink nearly enough water needed those last days same as trying to get a child to understand it's for their benefit led to that insane dehydration state. After a week of being on a simple chicken and rice soft food and some pills she was back to normal and practically doing back flips going back to a dehydrated cluster kibble. I felt horrible as I only had her best interest at heart thinking it was such an upgrade for health to go to raw no matter how pricey and only ended up giving her a month of trauma. I refuse to do the even more overpriced and gauged lightly cooked mail order subscriptions because they are absurdly priced even for a smaller 15lb dog like mine and are up charging for the convenience of a monthly shipment and prepackaged portions. I have friends who spend a small mortgage payment for multiple large dogs for these subscriptions and they equally practically need a second freezer for the space it takes up as well lol!

Are you of the same opinion that raw should be said in a different setting or at a different Meal Time if you're feeding kibble. I was always told the dogs do not process kibble the same as they process raw food and so it was harder for them to digest the both of them at the same time. I also noticed a dramatic difference in the amount of water that are dog needed to drink when we were feeding Raw versus when we are feeding kibble. Hey Skylar, I have an extremely picky eating year and 4 months old Corgi. I have tried numerous brands and types of food and she would eat them for few weeks and just goes on a hunger strike. Only thing I have not tried is raw diet. I have heard raw diets are less favorable as they don't have good flavor or taste to it? Do you think this will be good diet for extremely picky eater? Every feeding time is so frustrating and always worrying about when she's gonig to throw a fit... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
@TheTattooedDogTrainer3 жыл бұрын
When puppies are that young, the best thing to do is pick a good quality food and make them eat it. If you change the food every couple of weeks, he'll learn that if he stops eating then he gets something new. You can always add things like bone broth, goats milk, or meat to get him going. Some dogs have trouble transitioning to raw because many kibbles have ingredients in them to entice pets to eat. A great example is corn in cheaper foods. Corn turns directly into sugar and pets literally become addicted. Chicken fat is another common ingredient that encourages pets to eat the food. Adding raw a little bit at a time can help with the transition.

Will they need other things as well as that?

Cats should always have access to fresh water, regardless of their diet. It sounds like you have a good start to a homemade diet, but may still be missing some essential vitamins and minerals

@@TheTattooedDogTrainer It's actually from a company and they said that it should be the only thing she needs to eat. They seemed to think it contained all a cat needs. What do you think it's missing so I can check with them?

If you normally feed your dog kibble but want to enhance the food with one of the raw food patties would you crumble that on top of the kibble or feed alone?

Either way!

Help :( my husky hates kibble. I began giving my dogs toppers - store bought. Then I realized getting my own chicken organs & meats were cheaper. So I began cooking 50% of my dog meals & 50% “top quality” kibble. All my dogs are fine. Except the husky. She will literally fish out the fresh meat and leave the kibble on her plate. Everyday. Vet says she’s being picky because I am babying her with the food. But he also told me to feed her Royal Canin. 😬 Thoughts? Do I stop with the homemade foods or do try my best to go completely homemade?

In my experience, huskies tend to be picky. They can sometimes be like that pretty much regardless of what you feed. I would stick with what you are doing and try soaking the kibble in water, goat milk, or bone broth and see if that helps.

Would spot and tango unkibble be a good choice to start raw food? It’s freeze-dried raw food.
@TheTattooedDogTrainer3 жыл бұрын
Freeze-dried is a great way to ease into the idea of raw!
@vanessaf72593 жыл бұрын
You’re paying for the extra step of removing the moisture and the convenience of having shelf stable food, so freeze dried is actually more expensive than frozen raw.

I’ve read that feeding raw and kibble together is not good because they digest differently raw digest much faster than kibble

This topic is still debated in the raw feeding community. Ultimately, it comes down to your dog's needs. I personally have fed raw with kibble and had no issues.

I became a "trained nutritionist" working alongside a mentor for 2 years, and then went through a course designed by Dr. Maragret Smart and Dana Scott through Dog's Naturally.

@@TheTattooedDogTrainer That's awesome thanks for the info, I find shadowing and training alongside others is the best way to learn and being exposed to all kinds of scenarios for sure.

Hello! I'm planning on integrating raw food to my cat's diet with the intention of transitioning fully to a raw-based diet, but coming across a couple stumbling blocks. For one, one of my cats has sensitivities to poultry, and a lot of raw-based diets seem to integrate chicken in some way or another - such as giving them chicken feet to crunch on, adding eggs to their meals, and that sort of thing, in order to make it a complete diet. Also, one of my cats was malnourished as a kitten (he's a rescue!) and because of that he doesn't have a lot of teeth so his food has to be pretty soft. Do you have any advice, or would you at some point make a video touching on raw-food diets for cats (or dogs!) that have special dietary concerns? I know it's a lot to go over, like animals with diabetes, weight loss diets, kidney or urinary health, etc., so completely understandable if you don't want to make a video, lol.

Hi, I’m pretty sure you don’t have this brand in the US but would you mind looking up the brand Mush Vaisto raw food and tell me what you think of the ingredients list? I really want to feed my pug a raw diet but I want the best for her.
