To my understanding the time it takes a dog to digest meat and kibble is different so you shouldn't mix them in the same meal. I'm currently feeding my dogs with pasteurized meat. Only need to defrost. But sometimes feed raw muscle meat. For some reason my dogs not as excited about the food and some recipes they won't even finish so i am thinking about switching to full raw. This channel is probably the best resource for this. Thank you very much for the great videos.

These videos are extremely informational and a great help to figure out how I will transition my puppy to a raw food diet! Although I do have a few questions. When I incorporate the 80% of muscle meats, 10% of meaty bone, 5% of liver and 5% of another secreting organ, which of those should I incorporate the egg, wheatgrass, kelp and anchovies for the supplemental vitamins? Should those be incorporated with those percentages at all? How would you go about knowing how much salmon (for DHA) or wheatgrass (for vitamin E, zinc, and manganese) for my growing puppy? I'm good on fruits and vegetables. I've always used those as treats. They've had raw bison from a bison harvest and they've had lamb. Atm I'm starting with ground turkey, and the plan is to get them on lamb and bison. My oldest is picky so that's why, he's not into fish as much. My small dog is fine with ANY. I'm scared but excited to actually and FINALLY doing this. 😅 I've always used a high quality kibble (Pure Balance) because, when I got my 3y as a puppy and he came with Pedigree...dry skin watery diaherea, and acid reflux after eating. Terrible, so I switch him to Pure Balance Venison and Bison and he was fine, shiny coat, no more puking, diaherea. Then found out about raw dieting. So, I think I can do better than kibble.

my main issue is that if i were to go to raw I'd need a replacement for eggs/egg shells my dog has terrible egg allergies, just egg though, every other meat is fine, i started giving him some raw along with his kibble at 4months old, he never even had soft stool from it(he's 2 now), kibble on the other hand causes a ton of issues when ever i've been forced to switch. Ideally, once i figure out my work situation and get my self into a better paying position, i would like to go fully raw with him, the problem is that he cant eat eggs and i prefer the totally ground complete patties (i have no problem buying meat in bulk, and prepping it myself, i already do for a smaller portion) i need a recipe without egg or egg shell that i can make easily at home that is totally balanced, i would be willing to buy bone or horn powder but i need recommendations. Roman loves veggies, fruit and herbs and eats them both raw, cooked and ground, he also loves fish more than life, to give a better idea of what format of raw i'd be doing.

I have been wanting to switch my puppers to raw, however; I am concerned about say salmonella from the raw chicken, or parasitic infestation from the raw meats. I have been taught to always wash my hands after handling raw meats. My pups are 9 months old and one has developed what I believe are allergies since may , she has been very itchy with red ears and bumps under her fur that get flakey after a couple days and her eyes are really itchy with hair loss .. my other pup is now starting to itch more ive noticed but no other symptoms, I want to switch them to a raw diet but I’m scared lol it seems so overwhelming, mostly because I’m not sure what my dog is allergic to.. she has an appointment with a holistic vet the 29th so hopefully I can get some good info on what’s going on with her and then I can take the steps needed

If a dog does have a few digestive and excretion issues at first, don't blame it on a specific food, or think your dog must have an intolerance to it. It's more than likely it's just the dog having the wrong gut flora. The bacteria that were reliant on carbohydrates can't survive on the dog's new high protein diet, and as they die, they cause short-term issues. Once the dog gets the correct gut flora for his diet, those previous issues will more than likely disappear. When I first started adding raw to my new pup's kibble (he had been fed mostly kibble until I got him at 6 months), I noticed that raw chicken seemed to be a problem. I began feeding an almost purely raw diet almost immediately. He's now been on a purely fresh diet for nearly a month, and now he doesn't have a problem with any food I give him. The list of things I'm trying him on is growing by the day. Not just the different meat proteins, but also a range of vegetables and other foods.

If you know your dog does well on the proteins you want to switch them to cold turkey, then that's fine! But it's always good to just give a few whole pieces of meat or raw meaty bone just so they can get a feel for it before completely switching.

That means so much to hear thank you very much! Feeding half in the morning and half in the evening is probably what I would do if I was still going to feed kibble! I suggest getting the kelp and vitamin E oil from NOW Foods. For the kelp they have a tiny scoop that's great for measuring out for animals. Green lipped mussels you can find at seafood markets or asian markets, same with fish. Canned oysters you can find at your local grocery store. Am I missing anything?

I've been intrigued by the raw food diet after stumbling across it on YT but have reservations due to owning a brachycephalic breed. Do you recommend raw food for all breeds or just those with more traditional snout lengths? Our sweet boy is an 11mo old Boston Terrier puppy who has had gut issues since we brought him home at 8wks and discovered he came with Giardia 😥 since then its just been a money pit of trying to find food that doesn't result in soft, smeary, smelly stool. He also has anxiety issues which I know at least for humans can have a significant tie to diet and gut health which makes me wonder how much his irritated gut is affecting that too. I have three dogs. They all enjoy raw food. I do buy it from a pet store . It's called K9 choice beef Plus. The plus means fruit and veggies. And they always have a bowl of kibble grain free for just free range nibbles. I do prefer them eating their raw food. Great videos! I have a question about transitioning. We feed our Corgi, Artoo a grain-free kibble. 1 cup in the morning and 1/2 cup at night. We want to switch him to Primal raw due to the convenience and I know that we want to do this gradually however I am just not sure about the calories. If we give him a 1/4 cup of raw and 3/4 cup of kibble how do we know the raw is the same calorie content? Artoo is 3yrs old and 42lbs. He is half cardigan half pembroke. I would like to get him to 38 to 40lbs. I just don't want to be overfeeding or underfeeding him during the transition.

i just discovered this video and you don't know how orienting it is. I've been curious about raw diet because my 1 y/o chihuahua mix is reeeaaally picky, we've switched kibble brands and first he eats everything desperately (new flavors rock, apparently), but then he just decides to skip meals or even stop eating for days, and prefers to be hunting in the backyard (I don't let him, but he slips away whenever he's got the chance). He's totally healthy (I take him to the vet very often), even with all the meal skipping, but I'm worried his stomach acid starts to become a problem or something like that. I've been doing some research for quite a while now and it's been sooo overwhelming, I didn't know where exactly to look or where to start. Thank you so so much!

Hi! I have been absolutely hooked on your channel since getting my puppy and I was convinced to switch him over to a raw diet. I started off with premade bones & co and there was basically no transition period he gobbled it right up. Then I started making my own and I think I went wrong because a week later he had an upset stomach so we took him to the vet. The vet said after an xray that he had what looked like small bones still in his gi tract (I think or his intestines I can't remember exactly where) and that she thinks he's eating too many bones so she wants me to take him off the raw diet. While i'm fine with feeding him kibble for now, I'm wondering where I went wrong. I added around 15% ground eggshell instead of bone and maybe 1-2% pine nuts. I soaked the pine nuts for about an hour but I'm thinking maybe that wasn't long enough and while I ground them in a food processor it wasn't super fine. He's also been eating a decent amount of duck foot & pig snout chews. I don't expect you to diagnose my pup but have you had experiences like this with yours.

Oh I also I used the small batch duck blend, its not balanced just contains 80/10 organs/10 bone. I may have overdid the eggshell?

Hmm, you will still se bone in the Gi tract if they are currently digesting it. Part of me thinks the GI issues were from something else fed but I'd have to know the full story from what you fed before he started having issues and the timeline. Were you giving eggshells on top of 10-15% bone? Eggshells aren't necessary at that point. Nuts and seeds should be fed after soaking for at least 10 or so hours to remove the phytic acid as well.

@@PawsofPrey yes i was giving eggshells on top of the 10% bone already in the small batch "meat only" food, which I initially assumed was the culprit for too much bone. But after thinking about it after going to the vet I thought maybe the seeds though fed in a very small quantity could also be what the vet saw in the x ray. I didn't think to ask her in the moment. I had only fed him in total 3 lbs of homemade food so I'm just shocked its affected him so quickly.

I did raw as treats liver, hearts, chicken feet and muscle meat at first mostly as I wasn’t prepared (my meat grinder and extra freezer hadn’t arrived in time due to the annoying times) so did kibble and treats for 2 weeks then they arrived and we went cold turkey (well not Turkey we dont really get them in Thailand)

Have a 10 year old German shepherd and day 2 of raw diet is giving her bad diahhrea. How bad can the diahhrea get to be considered normal transitioning period? Its so painful to see her straining to poop

If it’s pet food specifically formulated for puppies, you don’t really have to supplement since it already has what your puppy needs to maintain his/her growth. Although you can give a bit of meat (preferably raw, but always be sure to wash your hands and disinfect surfaces) every once in a while as a treat. I hope this helped you. :)

My dog is now 16 mos and 2 days ago I started adding a raw egg to his food because he wasn't eating anything for 3 days. He loves the egg mixed with his kibble. He's having a very hard time pooping and after 3 days he finally pooped a little bit yet he keeps trying. I've added a wee bit of Metamucil to his diet to get things moving. It usually works yet he's still not pooping. He acts like he wants to tho. Idk what to do to help him go poop. What do u suggest I do? Unfortunately I don't have the money to take him to the vet and it hurts me that he's having so much trouble pooping. I DO love my dog he's my service dog. How can I help him get his bowels moving, is there any home remedies I can do?

If you can't afford to take your dog to the vet you can't afford the dog period. That is not fair to the dog. It may be in pain and ill and the only person it looks to for support can't afford it. Get the dog to someone who can properly take care of it. Try again when you have the means to do so properly.
