I got a rat recently. He was on sale for $1 because he's an old "biter". I felt bad, and took him home. I pet him a little, but he's quick to snap. However, tonight, I was sitting by his cage and talking sweet with him. He started yawning, a lot, and chattering his teeth. What's this mean, anyone?

Just be patient with him....build trust and spend time with him....the bond will come.Keep in mind too that he may bite because he is/was scared...or perhaps he may have been treated badly in the past...Just keep talking to him....let him hear ur voice....see ur face....and take it slow.He deserves to have someone like you who cared enough to give him a good,forever home. Having a pet rat is truly a wonderful experience! They have a way of taking ur heart ....and they are highly intelligent ! I started out with one (Sniffers) who I rescued from this couple at a pet store who wanted to buy him for "snake food" (which is bullshit if u ask me..bc they r living...breathing....little beings who DESERVE to be loved and cared for and NOT sold or labeled as 'snake food") thankfully i was there and was able to buy him b4 those other people! And then i bought another one, a dumbo rat, and last but NOT least,I bought my HEART...my hairless rat, named Pow. I am a devout rat lover now, and hopefully, you will be too with ur"old biter"....If u ever have any questions about rats or any concerns, feel free to email me and I'll do my best to answer any questions u may have ! Goldenboy Games Just be gentle. I found all my rats cozy to pet spots by watching them groom each other. I'd gently rub somewhere like on their back if I saw one of them being groomed there. Mine seem to enjoy that. But every rat is different. And thankfully they let you know if they like certain spots or not.
