I know that people's first reaction to this is generally going to be dismissive, and I don't really blame people for that. However, when you actually think about this for a bit longer you realize that this is actually a major discovery. It shows that our need for play has biological roots, and not just something that emerged through the advancement of culture and socialization (not to say that culture has no part in its development.)
@thefatherinthecave9434 жыл бұрын
It’s really weird people think play is exclusively human or animals we’ve domesticated. Many animals play to establish general rules like how hard they can play, who is too aggressive to be played with, how to hunt and social order. I assume many games children play like hide and seek, tag, and make believe establish something similar. Hide and seek teaches children how to look for things and hide, tag teaches endurance and make believe encourages creativity and storytelling.

Yes. Its yet another disproval of the blank slate theory(that everything is upbringing and environment and there is no instinct or base personality). Yet professors of the most prestigious universities still teach things based on the blank slate theory, such as critical gender theory.
@benguman22313 жыл бұрын
Awesome
@aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa7903 жыл бұрын
I think only a certain kind of person believes that animals don't have personalities or biological behaviors besides "instinct". Psychologists and biologists have been aware for a couple of decades now that brains are coded through hormones, and that all human behaviors are also the result of biology. Ergo, as animals also have brains and hormones, animals feel as well.
@Delinae3 жыл бұрын
@@soulmask2781 your confusing what's natural vs what's socially constructed. Critical gender studies doesn't say having gender identity is made up. They say specific gender expectations are made up. Similarly, you can tickle rats to play and they will expect to get tickled. If you wrestle with them they will expect wrestling.

I own 23 Rats. Can confirm that they love not only tickling, but love cuddles, kisses, if you sing to them, olay certain kinds of music for them, and play with them. Rats are very social, affectionate, and loving animals. I have one rat that I take on adventures with me. She has a house compartment on my backpack, with easy access in and out, and she will usually stay on my shoulder, and observe everything that I do. She 3specialy love kayaking and has learned what the word means and will get excited when I say it. It means she will get to kayak with me, and have the freedom of roaming the craft as i drift a lovely river. She even has a special bed, with a rain fly on the front of the kayak where she can lay and view the world around her, as we drift. She also enjoys car rides, and being with me. I encourage anyone interested in small animals, to adopt a Rat. They come in so many beautiful varieties, and all have unique personalities. I also study them. And have concluded that they are capable of thought & decision making. There are also various studies supporting this. Rats are wonderful & intelligent animals, requiring intellectual stimulation. Adopt one :)

Scientists don't need to study a cure for cancer, people just need to start living less toxic lifestyles. It's boggles my mind that people eat junk, drink alcohol and coffee and don't exercise and then complain they don't understand why they got cancer and other illnesses. All cancer is is a build up of toxicity in the body. We can prevent it ourselves, we don't need tests on animals to cure a disease easily prevented.

In all technicality, the researcher didn’t do the equivalent of scratching it. It was too light- Scratching it would give a different response (ex, trying to groom the researcher’s hand) Or at least, that’s what I’ve noticed from personal experience.

They also seem to realize I'm "deaf" because I talk to them a lot and they're very vocal within a range I can hear. Not sure how they learned that, but I've never had a more vocal group. They recognize different words- they learn faster than any dog I've ever worked with. Rats are amazing.

So you are saying that I get to tickle rats for science? I need this job
@klm200798 жыл бұрын
Hmm if you got a degree or hobby/interest in any kind of stuff, you can do your own research one things like this. Most of this kind of rat experiments are for us humans because humans don't or need something before they co-operate with a experiment. Like a Dutch man working on the behaviors of animals etc; One day hey was drinking his coffee and watching outside of his workplace to watch; people/nature etc and saw a male duck while flying hit the glass window of his workplace and died lying on the ground, but then a other male duck appears and fucking the other male duck. So the man had found a new behavior in Duck: Gay-Necrophilia. That day and win a noble. To answer your question make your own job by be creative and think outside the box.

I had a pet rat. He was so damn sweet, playful, and funny. He loved to be tickled. I would tickle his back and he would grab my finger in his mouth and play with it much like a dog would with your hand or arm in its mouth when playing around with it. He would fetch quarters, nap with me, and follow me all over the house even up stairs. He is the reason I am so in love with rats now. They are amazing animals and pets to have. I would not have another one though because they only live for about 3 years and it just tears my heart apart to lose such a wonderful little family member. I can't put myself through that again. However, I highly recommend you having at least one for a pet in your lifetime. They bring so much joy.

I had pet mice. A couple, male and female. I don't know what was I thinking, it was a strange time in my life. The female was very friendly, she let me pet her and was relaxed around me. The male always ran away from me leaving a trail of shit, like he was running from the devil. Two months later there were 10 babies. If I waited another two months there'd be a hundred. I isolated the male and waited a few weeks for the baby mice to grow. Then I let the litter and the male loose on the woods near my house and kept the female. I like to think that some of them made it and multiplied. The female, who I named Cretina, lived happily in a big comfy cage, with daily walks around my bedroom and all the good food she could eat, until she died of old age at three years old.

I had 2 pet rats, both loved being tickled and would tell me they wanted to do this by learning to tickle my hand with their paws to show they wanted to play. They also can modulate their voices, after a while you can hear them 'giggling' when you are playing together, interacting with chew-toys or playing chasing games with them. They were smarter and more affectionate than any other pets -except maybe dogs - that I've had. Very distinct personalities, very fast learners and really bond tightly with their human.
