PET Scan: They Found New Activity || Cancer Journey

Three years ago I got lung cancer , did the chemo had the surgery to remove my lung . Then went into remission , this last year lost my husband , and went to do my routine test , MRI . Seven months after his passing they tell me my cancer is back . It had metastasized to my brain with five tumours and now going through this all by myself , back on chemo . So I understand stand how you feel , but my prayers are with you 🙏🏻 .

So just to provide some hope, my oncologist stopped using PET scans post staging because they’ve been getting several false positives. Two patients had their spleens removed and the pathology came back with no cancer. So it could be the same case for you. Keep in mind pet scans detect ANY irregular cellular activity.

Exactly, they should have just gone with a regular CT scan. PET scans are only used when they know its cancer for sure and they wanna get a better pic for the stuff the CT scan doesn't show. So something would have to be on the CT first.

@@evanbrad7327 they already know she had cancer for sure. Cancer never actually goes away once you have it. Using a CT scan is just a false sense of hope. Just because it doesn’t show up on CT doesn’t mean it’s not there.

Wow. That explains why my oncologist doesn't do pet scans. My last one was mid chemo over 4 yrs ago. He won't scan unless other symptoms pop up.

Oh Romee, my daughter is right there with you. She was diagnosed in 2013 with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia right after high school. She had plans for the military and then it was taken away. Currently, she is on relapse #3 and will be doing Car-T therapy next week. We are hoping this will be what she needs to put cancer down. She has never been able to lead an adult life like her friends and it is so defeating sometimes. So, we send you hugs and know how frustrating it is,

That is upsetting news. You absolutely have a right to feel bad, mad, sad whatever. I am so sorry you are going through this again. I never thought after 6 years of good mamograms including last June I would have a second primary tumor. Not a recurrence but a whole new cancer. I am an older woman so it is very different situation for me. I wish I could make it better for you.

Quick tip: I always take a picture of each medical document whenever I have a new one and save it as pdf and put it in my files in iCloud so I have access to them using either my iPhone or Mac etc. This saved me so many times because at least I had something to show rather than nothing. Painting is very cute. Stay positive. My mom fought for 17 years. Colon then remission yr later kidney took it out. Remission then her other kidney and a rib bone. So we knew when they took last kidney it wasn't going to be long. But she always tells ppl eT right stay positive do what the Dr says. Positive vibes sent from America. I miss Europe. We lived in bitburg Germany for ten yrs with American air Force. Lived in the village. We been to Switzerland black Forrest and everywhere in between. Great memories.

My PET scan showed some activity in lymph nodes. The doctor still thinks, it was activity from a vaccination, I had three months prior. It is scary, hearing news of not all clear. I am sure, they do everything to find out what it really is, before ringing the alarm bells. Fingers crossed. You got this, and whatever comes, you will deal with it with grace. I am an April born, too :) Birthdays in those (last 3 years) times are strange. But keeping busy is best strategy for not being eaten up by fear.

And many are headed your way. I am old enough to be your mother. I have close friends who are cancer survivors. It is cool you were able to fix the palm tree placement. When I am going through a lot, I make crafts and find that it helps keep me calm. Now is when I need to do this again. You’re hair color and length are perfect! Sorry about your PET Scan results. I have been on a similar journey from age 25-57 and continues. My first cancer was stage 4 Squamous Cell Carcinoma base of tongue, neck and lymph nodes. 7 other cancers thanks to so much radiation and now I also have Osteoradionecrosis! Severe/chronic pain 24/7/365 since 1992. Please stay positive, always. You have a great support system in person and online. Take advantage of your support system. 🌷 ♥️

From a current cancer fighter, and nurse, sometimes PET scans can give false readings. It’s due to varying factors. So, maybe, fingers crossed, that’s the case. I’d definitely be interested in seeing the scan. I’m a medical science nerd, and it fascinates me to see PET results-especially when the reading are “lighting up”, but aren’t active cancers. I’ll be thinking of you! ❤️

I love your painting...the colors go with the wall behind where you were sitting. I'm so sorry that you got the news from the doctor about the PET scan. Seeing the doctor and knowing what is happening will help, I believe....that time of not knowing is scary. I hope you have something planned for your Birthday.
