@@PoopScoopsForNoobs thanks for the reply! My biggest concerns are if I’ll be able to generate enough business to make enough to justify quitting my current job. I make around 40k so nothing astronomical but I want to make at least that in addition to enough to cover the gas and other expenses that I don’t have to worry about with my current job. Another thing is a want to be able to take a couple week long vacations during the year so having some way doing that with the customers needing weekly pickups is something I would need to figure out. The work itself doesn’t bother me as I’ve been in the pest control industry for almost 20 years so I’m used to working outside and dealing with customers. But I’ve never been an entrepreneur so learning to run a business is obviously another concern. I think in that regard I’d be okay as I tend to be a pretty conscientious person (borderline obsessive lol). But it still is a lot to learn!

It's okay to know that it's a lot to learn, but all you can do is be 1% better than you were yesterday 🙏 When it comes to the long vacation times, you can just create as part of your Terms of Service that you follow the National Holiday Schedule and on those days you will not be servicing clients. And that you'll pick up the pet waste on their next appointment. Your customers get to take vacations from their jobs, and you should too. 💩

I was hesitant about skipping a week because of people objecting but I might be over estimating how big of a deal it would be to them. I think I saw in your interview with Kroopins that you found people didn’t have as big a problem with you missing a week as you had expected so that’s reassuring.

A few times I have a customer asking me why I charged them double and I only tell them "since I'm picking up 2 weeks worth of poop, I'm charging for 2 weeks"

There were some companies that use shop vacs for smaller poops on rocky terrain but unless you're using like an industrial vacuum it would be really hard to efficiently pick up a lot of poop, especially diarrhea

Great question! You can either leave it in a customer's trash can or haul it away with you and use your own garbage can, pay for a dumpster or go to your local landfill.

Did you begin your business as a sole proprietor or did you organize an LLC? I’ve been wanting to get started in Texas for a while now. One website says this is a bad idea and the other says that is a bad idea. It seems to me that as a sole proprietorship I’d only have to register for a DBA and sales tax permit.

@@PoopScoopsForNoobs One site will say it’s a bad idea to start as a sole proprietor and one will say it’s a good idea. I feel like sole proprietorship makes the most sense. If one were immediately hiring employees and trying to hit the ground running then I could see LLC being a good choice. But I just want to start slow, work my full time job, and accumulate 40-50 customers for my 2 days off. But we all know Uncle Sam wants his money, so I’m trying to cover my bases. You appear to be doing pretty well and you starting with your DBA is already a big help. Thank you 🙏🏻

@@josephjohnson704 Great question, Joseph! If you plan on doing things slowly and not hire anyone, I would recommend the DBA route. That's what I did and I have 50 weekly clients and one apartment complex that I service outside my full time day job :)

Hi I'm interested in Jobber but seems a bit expensive overall commitment wise. Long term it most probably would be great. I've found an all called 'squeeguee' I believe it can be used in USA too. If you get chance I would love to hear your opinion on it, it's around £30 pm and you can message customers also. I'm literally torn between the 2 Thanks. Fellow UK Scooper. Whatever worry you have about Jobber would disappear once using that system with the automation you'll have and the intake form you can use to gather leads while you're sleeping or out in the field scooping. I can only share my experience and once I used Jobber in my work processes, it literally 4.2x the amount of money I made from year 1 to year 2, which paid off Jobber in the long run ☺️ I never heard of that other app so I can't give a recommendation!

And I don't know about how taxes work in the UK but since paying for Jobber is a business expense, it lowers my tax liability and I don't have to pay as much taxes as I would have. Jobber completely transformed how I managed my business and has given me more time to actually work ON my business and not IN my business. 🙏💩
