@@samadams2203 Not Michigan and ohio, there was a war because ohio tried to annex ~500 square miles of southern Michigan with what was an important shipping port at the time. The federal government ended up giving Michigan statehood status and the whole upper peninsula of land for agreeing not to march the troops in to kick out the invaders before more than warning shots and a stabbing could happen but the troops _were_ raised to do it,then those specific troops were instrumental in winning the most important battles of the American Civil War. (Today the strip of land and port city they let ohio have is a craphole, the upper peninsula is still a beautiful place full of natural resources, and they yell at each other about it at football games.)

@@ffwast Do you seriously think about that in the current year when dealing with your neighbors though? Kind of odd to judge people for things done by governments nearly 200 years ago. I don't think Pennsylvanians still hold a grudge over the Whisky rebellion.

we dont care but do at the same time, when you hear a mixed school you dont think "ah great!" you think "wouldnt be sending my kids there" (at least were im from, most people share these views), and also catholics arent exactly keen on calling themselves northern irish also there are still parts of the culture that are done to annoy the other side and people get very hostile at those times (12th of july for example with stuff like burning irish flags, burning pictures of lyra mckee and burning pictures of the pope) but if im talking to someone, I dont think "fuck i wonder if theyre protestant or catholic", I just talk to them and 99% of people are like that which is great, sucks that there are 1%'s out there that keep being hostile for literally no reason but generally, as someone that wouldnt call themself nothern irish, I have no problem with the other half in the country, my problem is shared with the rest of the celts and specifically their government/royal family

Northern Irish ppl are still Irish but are not in the Republic of Ireland which is confusing to most people, however they do have a community called a Gaeltacht which they speak Gaelic Irish. the only reason why Northern Ireland is a part of Britain is because of colonization. they're still Irish but it's separated by who owns that part of Ireland.

It is a confusing subject to some- the ‘real’ ethnic Celts were in charge of the salt mines in Austria- west of there, their language spread across the bulk of Europe and into the isles, but those people also became ‘Celtic’ too. I wonder if the people of the lost land of Doggerland also spoke Celtic languages…?

Used to be, lots of jobs didn't require a college education or anything, so you could start building a career straight out of high school. Some of my grandparents didn't even finish middle school before their parents got them to start learning whichever trade. Higher education was for the people who could afford it. But you could do quite well for yourself just by building out your career. You used to be able to feed a family of 4 on a single paycheck, buy a house etc, doing blue collar work after all. And if you got a job better than that, flying around for holidays seems certainly within reach. So his ancestors could have been poor, but his parents found economic success during the economic boom years, even without higher education.
