One of the most heart wrenching, beautiful songs ever written.

The problem with Psychoderelict is that it was way ahead of it's time ....... That's just how Pete rolls ! Great album IMO

NO, sadly it was 1993 and the who were way past their peak. Nirvana and the like dominated the charts. I think this is his best solo work and not for mass consumption. still nobody listens to this. i heard the intial sale was 200,000 units

Saw Pete do Psychoderelict in 1991. One of the greatest concerts I've ever been to..and that's saying a lot..been to over 300 concerts...the Who over 25 times.

It came out in 1993 in 1991 he had a broken wrist so unless you are capable of time travel it was totally impossible to see him play live in 1991

Yep, I saw Psychoderelict in 1991 as well... Smaller venue in Oakland, Ca. Amazing show. Of course I already had every song memorized... so when he sang, "Now and Then" I sang too... I know he couldn't hear... but I knew. One of the greatest poets alive. Nothing against the Who days... but the solo albums are _so_ much more to me at least. Love. Love. Love.... did I mention, LOVE, Pete Townshend.

Psychoderilict was 1993 not 1991

I really like this song. I think the main reason the album failed was that radio didn't/couldn't support it. Radio was switching over to the Classic Rock format, where they play a song only once a day. A band like The Who can never be "alternative" anymore (and thus get on the mainstream new music stations), and they can't get a classic rock station to play their new songs more than once a day, so the new songs quickly fade away, known only by the band's more hardcore fans.

Pete is first and foremost and artist. His innovation is completely necessary and an inextricable part of his process. “Now And Then’,” one of his creations will hit the larger public’s consciousness big time, and that’s always nice. But I’m sure he’s always been motivated by the reformation and the experimentation that true creativity offers, rather than what he thinks the public wants or expects. He and David Bowie were very similar in this way. I’m really glad that I grew up with his music.

Couldn't have said it any better !! I , too , am really glad to grow up with all his fascist and genial approaches to his art and craft . IMO one has to be really open to interpretation to fully understand Pete Townshend

God, Pete has mellowed recently. I was amazed to find that i now prefer watching his more recent interviews than the 'classic' one from the 60's and 70's... somehow that young Pete from, say, 67 or 73 seems less interesting to me than what the guy has to say NOW. and considering that i LOVE the who and how pete was back then, its a surprise to me.

For ages Pete Townshend was telling people that his hearing was effected by electric guitars and amps thats why he played the acoustic guitar then he figured out that you loose hearing more probably by loud head phones you wear over your ears which he did so he started playing a electric stratocaster again

I saw him do it at the Brooklyn Academy of Arts.....I didn't like it but it was Pete trying something new....so it was Pete and great.

"I am helpless in this pantomime... and then piano comes behind me to remind me that I was twice-the-ever-love-who-has-caused-me-pain.... and not doing anything about it"...I find myself apart from being understood or Zarathroostra--passionate wyfe, she had my bones, but she was my marrow, and something there.... decrepit....now and then saw how she only realized herself as a commodity.

Only 15,000 views for this. Not a whole lot, compared with, say, Tommy. But I love this song. The failure of "Psychoderelict" was a terrible end to a career of defiant innovation. I can't think of any other well-known musician who would have taken that risk, basically doing an audio play on a CD--with a complicated plot, and with a lot of social commentary. Check out the back-story on petetownshend.net (a fan site but very well maintained).
