Love my UB-Xa - covers pretty most of what I need in an analog poly.

Thanks for the video. If you connect UBXa to computer and have UBXa audio out routed to your audio in for let's say Pro Tools or other DAW tracks, can you program the variables through sysex to change the variables you are doing with hand in real time through automation recording? i.e. keep them nondestructive? That's one good thing with the instrument plugins and I primarily compose things in the computer but of course having a nice sounding hardware is very good but not with price of losing the automation option. What is your thoughts?

I've just bought mine - desktop as well. I have to say I'm very impressed by the sound and I do own other hardware synths as well. The most of the youtube videos does not show how great this synth can sounds. In reality it sounds very organic, punchy, warm and rich. I highly recommend to check its sound in the shop if you can. I bet you will be suprissed :-)

Good take on this synth and reviews as such! Better to embrace a good sounding Machine and a sound easily included in the mix.

The tiny screen and the interface seem to be derived from the Roland jd-xi. It looks identical.

It's strange that many new synths are being designed with tiny LCDs that are no better than those of forty years ago, apart from being backlit. Why might that be?

I am not entirely sure if I fully get your MPE remark. Do you mean that it will always ALSO keep changing cutoff per played note even if you ONLY want to control something else? That will off course be a limitation but I have found that cut off is the most musical parameter with poly AT because it adds continuous control of the timbre on top of the more percussive character of conventional keyboard playing. So I could probably live with it mysel. But you are right it is not a very elegant solution. Continuous polyphonic control of the sample scrubbing position for instance actually has the potential to replace filter cut off by using the inherent time related timbral shifts in the sampled material itself (a bit like Palm initially sought to replace the need for filters by wavetable scanning). Alas nobody seems to get this, not even the developers of granular samplers.
@PeteMidiАй бұрын
Yes, if you control pan, position, lfo speed or anything else via MPEtimbre, you will also change cutoff frequency at the same time...
@marcbrasse747Ай бұрын
@@PeteMidi And what if you use poly AT in stead of MPE?
@PeteMidiАй бұрын
You can, poly AT works without interference, but MPE provides more polyphonic modulation sources, if it works...
@marcbrasse747Ай бұрын
@@PeteMidi Good old poly AT. I am a big fan of it. Of course MPE is superior but at the moment I see no reason to invest in it because I have assembled a very versatile setup including an Elka MK88 with poly AT and a Doepfer R2M. Look up Starship One synthesizer. 😁

You can't just use the MSB of the NRPN as the CC?
@PeteMidiАй бұрын
I guess it's possible, I don't like NRPN that much, there are many unused cc numbers, and many cc have a two byte msb/lsb resolution, for no reason. So, it would have been easy to squeeze all essential sound parameters into cc space, even without bit masking....
@dudfazАй бұрын
@@PeteMidi I guess NRPNs are great if you're using a daw and recording automations that you're sending from the same instrument. Anyway, no big deal to just refer to the msb list for cc numbers if you need them.

I want to hear the synth do things not normally done with a poly OBy type synth, like some gnarly arps with wacky modulation etc, this demo was so tame.

How is the built quality? Mostly i keep myself off to behringer, because of the builtquality!
@PeteMidi18 күн бұрын
The overall built quality is just about ok in my opinion. The knobs are ok, not the endless encoder... , the display is borderline, the TRS sockets are definitely not HQ, audio quality is good.
@dankeplaceАй бұрын
These are poorly priced in my country, the keys version has had a 20% $ drop and now is only $150 AUD more than the module. That's not good value for the module now, especially when you lose the albeit average PAT keybed.
@PeteMidiАй бұрын
I guess it will get cheaper after some time, as with the Pro-800. I don't have the space for another keyboard, so no alternative for me...
@dankeplaceАй бұрын
@@PeteMidi I am the same with space, that's why I am very selective about what goes on my desk. I am trying to make room for other gear so something has to eventually go.
