I’ve been rewatching the whole season. So interesting to see all the foreshadowing I missed. I’m impressed at the people who figured out who Helly was before the finale, but there were great clues. The shot of Helly in front of the younger female manikin shows the resemblance so clearly.
@dontlettheworldrot3058Күн бұрын
We are DEFINITELY going to get an "ohhhh shiiit" moment with Dylan G. He's the only one we have not seen more than a few seconds of his outie. Why is that? And why AFTER he literally bit someone to learn more about his kids yet he wanted to be the one to stay behind and do the levers instead? Just seems highly suspect. I dunno, something is going on with him...

I love the idea that Irving went severed undercover. Coupled with Helly being an Egan, it gives this super classic feel, while the show as a whole feels refreshing at the same time. This is what makes great television to me.
@kennethpierson82Күн бұрын
I like the idea as well, but I also have to point out that Irving has been a lumon employee for 9 years. It makes it hard for me to believe any undercover operation lasts that long. He could be doing it unsanctioned. Another possible explanation could be that he was an employee for 9 years and rather recently has been turned by reghabi (the one who was helping Petey).

I'm currently rewatching the first season and am really paying attention to coloring. I noticed both the innie and outie worlds are awash in "cool" whites, blues, greens, and sometimes yellows, and the world they inhabit is literally cold and snowy, while red and other "hot" colors are pretty rare and often pop up when an important plot beat is about to occur. The red ball during Helly's orientation, Petey's robe, and Ricken's book all come to mind. You could even make the case that redheaded Helly's arrival is what sets everything in motion.

Great video! I never thought of the implication that Irving was trying to pass a message/dream to his innie. When I first watched the episode, I thought it meant his innie memories were leaking into his outie’s, and he was painting what he could remember from what he saw while working. The other way around makes more sense.
@bustatron10 сағат бұрын

With cobel and what she was doing with Jemma I think she was putting severance to the ultimate test. She put mark in front of his wife and kept pushing to see if there was any sign of cross over between the two Marks. In the end nothing really noticeable happened so her test could be thought as a success but I also think she was a little disappointed. She is committed to lumon but at the same time I think there’s part of her that cares about Mark and also wants to believe in the power of love. Part of her wanted Mark to recognise Jemma but as it was she end up seeing Mark prioritise another woman so she was disappointed there as well.

Wonder if the red & blue motif has anything to do with 3D glasses? When you only have one eye open (or if you have amblyopia like I do), you're only able to see one of the colors at a time. When you combine the two lenses together, you're supposed to see a neutral color. That by reintegrating the image between two eyes (innie and outie), you can see past the illusion. Something that comes to mind with that theme being used throughout the season.

6:12: while you are correct that PE is not a valid state abbreviation for the United States, it is the province abbreviation for Prince Edward Island in Canada. So maybe Lumon is not an American company after all, but a Canadian one. Interesting detail that I hadn’t noticed before; thanks for pointing it out.
@PetePeppers120 сағат бұрын
Dan Erickson was asked about that and confirmed it's not related to Prince Edward Island.
@tarotgarden14 сағат бұрын
@ Thanks for that info. I noticed afterwards that it was a 5-digit, fully numeric postal code… so my next theory was that Canada… or at least some portion of it… had been absorbed into the U.S. That could have been an interesting sidebar to the world building, but also something that needlessly threw in details not germane to the central point of the show.

@HanoveurКүн бұрын
I think their ability to identify "scary numbers" is a procedural skill that they somehow acquired when the chip was inserted into their brain. So they know they are scary but have no idea of how they learned they were scary. Maybe that is the chief purpose of Severance. Put someone elses procedural skills in someone elses mind. I don't why nobody brings up the weird place known as The Birthing Center. It's been said that once a woman has her first child, the second one is instinctual...and if they want to use someone elses skills...they would need that skill developed, thus I wonder about Mark's sister... This is why it feels like they chase car-crashes...what a better place to get a skill, but from a dying person. Except Mark's wife may have unexpectedly lived after Lumon took her from the car crash...so they did the reverse, took her outie's skills, used them somewhere else, and only kept the procedural skill that makes her valuable...psychology. Except they cant let her go because she is supposed to be dead. Remember the scene where Irving instinctually grabs his car keys and then stops and wonders why he just did that. Then he just drives like he's been doing it all his life. Well, I think that demonstrates what Severance is. We are seeing an innie with his outies skills...but there were never cars in the office...so he would have never known until he was introduced to one. Its the reverse of what we've watched all season long. I also think that is what happened to Dylan. Once he realized what it felt like to be a father, now it feels like his kid is missing...again, a father's instinct. I bet your $100 we will soon see someone else playing Enter Sandman on the guitar in a future episode...guess who played guitar before he died?
@caemeronКүн бұрын
PE is the abbreviation for Prince Edward Island, but Canada doesn't use the same kind of ZIP code as the US, and as we see here. Also, Irving's complex is called Leonora Lake, which is also a place in Canada, but it's on the opposite side of the country from Prince Edward Island. So, anyway, some weirdly inconsistent indications that the show might be set in Canada maybe

I'm highly skeptical of the idea that Irv has seen the elevator as an outtie. It appears that he's suffering some bleed between his two identities, which could be due to his having been one of the earlier severance procedures. Early generations of any emerging technology tend to have a few bugs.

Part fun and part for the love of this show, I think Dan Erickson may stole or "borrowed" Irvings' character's coffee mug from my great aunt's cabin in Woodstock, NY which is now an air b-n-b that allows us to afford to keep it. Makes this show even stranger.

just watched this one, binged it this weekend since most Silo fans liked it too and being a fan of sci-fi/ mysteries I thought I'd giver it a whirl. If you think it's about people wanting to separate their work and personal lives you are missing the point. It's layered, it's deep and it's subversive in the best way. And while it pokes fun at corporate bureaucracy /hierarchy it's real message to me is about influencers, cult-like idol worshipping, religious fanaticism and while I'm not sure because I have no idea where this is going some some sort of alien invasion/takeover or maybe the old man just has a god complex and thinks he needs to control everyone.

OK, Cobel drives a white rabbit. How does the song “White Rabbit” (by Jefferson Airplane) relate to Severance? Grace Slick says the song is about the importance of education, and the line "feed your head" is a call to LIBERATE brains and senses. Coincidence? Easter egg? Or do I have an overactive imagination??
