Peter Allen (10 February 1944 -- 18 June 1992) was an Australian songwriter and entertainer. His songs were made popular by many recording artists, including Elkie Brooks, Melissa Manchester and Olivia Newton-John, with one, "Arthur's Theme", winning an Academy Award in 1981. In addition to recording many albums, he enjoyed a cabaret and concert career, including appearing at Radio City Music Hall riding a camel. His marriage to Liza Minnelli ended in divorce, and his most significant relationship[citation needed] was with Gregory Connell, which lasted 15 years. - Wikipedia

Peter Allen was sensational! A great songwriter, a great musician and vocalist, a great conversationalist. He accomplished so much and his death was so sad. Had he lived longer there is no end to what he could have done. I am so glad we had him in his short lifetime. Nobody can take his place,

I saw Peter three times in concert in Sydney, Australia. He was unforgettable. I have never seen anything like it since. He was a class act, very humble, multi-talented. He left us too soon.

Based on the reference to the Broadway one-man-play - I'd Rather Leave While I'm in Love and the upcoming Biltmore appearance - sounds like 1979. Yes - it's 1979 because that's when "I Could Have Been a Sailor" LP was released.

GREST songwriter. This interviewer is hilarious. Paraphrasing, 'Where did all this flamboyance come from?' Um. It's innate? Awkward from the moment he walks out. He made sure he met Liza, come on. He wanted, like a good Queen, to get as close to one of his idols (Judy Garland) as possible.
