The older I get (42 years young), the more I'm convinced that while we get stuck in the weeds of specifics, all roads eventually lead back to the basics: exercise, diet, sleep. Brush your teeth, drink mostly water, buckle your seat belt, and find a hobby/social circle that enriches your life.

Well put. I have a mantra I try to call up every day: “Sleep Right, Eat Right, Move Right, in that order.” ‘In that order’ because if you fail the preceding one then you almost certainly sabotage the subsequent one/s.

26:23 “For those of you who don’t know what a watch is, this is a watch.” 😂 I come for the training knowledge but I stay for the jokes.

I don't know why I've never thought of using 3x5 index cards w. training and to document (and later repeat) good workouts, especially circuits and complexes!!! Gold nugget right there - Thanks Coach!

Oh, thank you. It really keeps things organized. It is funny to watch me show up to work out some times with my journal and a stack of cards. I look like I’m giving a lecture in a math class.

26:30 Ashamed to admit that I have accidentally done a kettlebell snatch with a watch before. The worst part was that I realized just before the bell landed.

I've had people tell me: "This watch/device is fine." And...seconds later...sadness.

I am 66 and have been doing stomach vacuums for more than fifty years at the end of workouts. Still have a 31" waist. Consistency matters and little habits done over a long time add up, for good or ill.

Without naming a product can you give your thoughts on variable resistance in relation to increased load bearing in relation to joint position regarding safety of joints and strength gains. It seems logical (and i understand it's been done before) but I'm sure it's much more complex.

I like the original idea with universal gyms. They had a lever arm that made things harder as it got farther from the body. It was very simple. You can do the same with bands and chains. If I started from the beginning, I’ve done a lot more work with chains.

I enjoyed the podcast as always. Interestingly I just read ESFFL and I always like Dan reiterating the same points to hammer home the message. While reading the book I did a recommended workout and loved it. I felt so good that I decided to do a Delorme hypertrophy workout. 2 weeks in and I felt awful. It took me a few days to realise I'm working out much more intensely so I need more sleep, better concerted recovery and more food to reap the benefits. I am now getting the balance right but it wasn't obvious at first. Life lessons lol😂

I find it pretty interesting that John McCallum, the Younger Next Year guys and Attia have all ended up at the same place. Like, the advice is easily 90 to 95% the same. Just relearning the same lessons every two or three decades. (I also thought the stuff about emotional health was the best bit about Outlive, although it's a fine book)
