You can tell that Peter is a Whovian from childhood because he still refers to the Doctor as "Doctor Who", e.g. "Doctor Who's guitar."

HerityInOrder True enough, he is also a true fan of the show and tries to incorporate aspects of the previous Doctors into his mannerisms from time to time. There were times in Series 8 where I could have sworn he was Tom Baker from the expression on his face, or Jon Pertwee from the tone of voice or William Hartnell from his attitude and demeanor, sometimes I even thought I saw Patrick Troughton's impish grin on his face. So why not Matt Smith's hand gestures occasionally? lol ;)

conradigirl Strange... David Tennant grew up watching older episodes and he always called him The Doctor. In fact he was the one to point out the mistake in the credits where they called him 'Doctor Who'.

I just read that about Capaldi a few days ago, and I don´t know if it´s his reason or just a fan theory ;) Personally I prefer "the Doctor", too ;)

Doctors 1-4 and Eccleston were all credited as Doctor Who. It was upon request of Davison (and later, Tennant) that the credits be changed to The Doctor. Peter grew up with the much older episodes and so he calls him Doctor Who.

Doctor Who doesn't need to be played by a female, we just need a guy that can do half as good a job as Capaldi. That's harder than it sounds, but totally worth it.
