Amy was the perfect cast for this duet. I can't find anything about this song's composition, arrangement or delivery that's short of perfection. Even Peter was incredible, and I find his ego hard to handle.

This is hard to explain. I don’t care for Peter Cetera’s music, its not my style. But I love him as a musician. Let me explain why. In my opinion, he and Terry Kath carried Chicago in their early years. Robert Lamm would like to think he himself was what made Chicago. Lamm was a good songwriter, but Cetera and Kath was the voice of Chicago; and he was very humble about it. Certera wrote and sang their biggest hit “If you leave me now” which pissed off Robert Lamm and Jimmy Pankow. I think they were jealous of him over it. After Kath’s death, Cetera was pretty much the voice of Chicago especially when they brought in Dave Foster to get the band back on their feet. Foster and Cetera helped put Chicago back on the charts. I didn’t care for the music but Cetera was doing what he was paid to do. When he wanted to go solo while remaining in Chicago, like Phil Collins did with Genesis, Cetera was told to pound sand. He left Chicago and never looked back. I really like Cetera for sticking to his guns. I may not care for his music but I think he has certainly earned his place in the music world. He definitely has my respect
@p3tabyte Жыл бұрын
Thank you for this insight. Peter is such a professional musician and what he did here in choosing Amy for this duet was genius and seems totally genuine on his part. Props to Bobby Caldwell for this masterpiece.
@Randy.E.R Жыл бұрын
@@p3tabyte I could go on forever about Chicago and Peter Cetera. I don’t know if you recall that both Chicago and Genesis were really popular in the mid to late 1980s. Phil Collins wanted to go solo and was given the blessing to do so by his band and management. Peter wanted to do the same and was told to choose the band or a solo career. He chose to go solo and was extremely successful. Chicago didn’t have a successful career after that. And I blame Robert Lamm and Jimmy Pankow for that, but I like that Cetera got the last laugh. There is so much more about that but you get the gist. Chicago also got rid of their drummer Danny Seraphine about that time. That still defies explanation with me. But I believe its because Robert Lamm wants to be the shining star of Chicago.

put a lump in my throat...i grew up in the 80's hearing all these songs on the radio. I loved rock, adult contemporary, hair bands, country, pop and all the stuff on the radio. I always though Peter Cetera's voice was such a standout from the crowd of super talented vocalists. I think Peter's voice should be mentioned in the same breath as Steve Perry, Freddie Mercury, Darryl Hall, Whitney Houston, Mavin Gaye, Lionel Richie, Michael McDonald, Randy Meisner and many more vocalists who rest at the pinnacle of talent using their voice as an instrument.

@@davidwilliamgay4821 Right, I didn't mean "still" as in "today in '22". They did this about 20yrs after the original, which not all singers will sound as good as these 2 do after ~20yrs. Many times I hesitate to listen to singers as they age due to not wanting to hear them at a lesser level. Impressive these 2 did so well.
@davidwilliamgay48212 жыл бұрын
@@P2thaR agree totally. I heard that Peter Cetera finally stopped doing concerts around 2019. He would have been around 75! then. Amy Grant is still going strong. There is a concert from him with Kim Keyes, who is also brilliant with duets from Chile in 2017. Well worth watching. Dave in Berlin
