According to someone who was a student of Peter, he was going to switch to something else as soon as his contract with DW ended anyways and you can see some videos of him using other drumsets right before he went to TAMA.

@@the6ig6adwolf - Tama has probably given Erskine tons of drum gear. But it's extremely rare for a instrument company to pay their endorsers directly.

He tried to get Yamaha to make this, but after Hagi was gone, nobody there had the vision to realize Peter was right. So he changed companies. DW created a lightweight hardware pack but it is over-engineered and doesn’t satisfy the simplicity of the vintage Ludwig stands. Ludwig made a wonderful ultralight stand, a modern version of the classic stand, but that was prematurely redesigned into the new Atlas series, unfortunately. Only Tama took the idea to heart and actually made the design as legit as it deserves to be.

Not only do these look cool, but these are surprisingly versatile stands for how light they are. Joey Castillo is a hard ass hitter and uses these stands religiously, and they hold up amazingly.

I'm dreaming of having a hihatstand that matches that using the Camco footboard. And Re-introducing the Camco pedals again. The ultimate "vintage-but-modern" setup.

I have three of these stands Mr. Erskine. I absolutely love them. My cymbals sound better. They feel better. The stands are just so special. Thank you thank you thank you for helping to make these a reality!
@jonahmartinez42987 жыл бұрын
For real, I have 4. They rule! What is neat is that you can have two cymbals on one stand because the top portion can fit through a cymbal hole. Louie Bellson, Ginger Baker, and Ian Paice did this early on.

I have dug out my old Ludwig 1400 series flat base stands and snare stand and use them on gigs now. They set up very fast and are very light. My heaviest thing is now my throne and tom mount! Best thing is I can carry my hardware again. Tama did good at making these again.

Does anyone know if these will work with vintage cymbals with a 7/16" mounting hole instead of the modern 1/2" mounting hole? I really like Tama hardware, but I've been using the DW flat based stands because my vintage cymbals won't fit on the Tama sleeve.

A suggestion if I may to anyone from Tama who might read this. I love these, as well as the hi-hat and snare/tom stands. My ONLY gripe is with the cymbal and tom stands. There is a rivet underneath the leg span collar that stops you from opening the legs up too much, so the legs are always flat. This makes positioning a little problematic because you can't position legs over or under each other. I ended up taking a nail and hammering the rivet out so I could open the legs more. I couldn't get my left side crash close enough to me because the tom stand legs were in the way and the cymbal stand legs couldn't go over the hi-hat stand legs. I don't see the rivet as necessary. To me it's an over engineered feature that actually limits setup.
@bbfoto72486 жыл бұрын
+handidrummed Agreed. Not having the option to tuck other stand legs under, or span over the top, is a big negative.
@handidrummed6 жыл бұрын
Fortunately it's easily remedied with a a nail that's a little larger to not fit through the rivet, and a hammer. If I wasn't able to remove it I would have definitely regretted the purchase.

@ickysticky36727 жыл бұрын
katza71 They used to build to the best hardware. Tama and Sonor at the end of the 70's were serious innovators. Nowadays, DW builds the strongest and most adjustable hardware. Between the 9000 series and Star hardware, the winner is clear. I do like these Star drums more than the Collectors series, however.

Tama if you read this comment, I wish you guys could go back to your old 90s and 80s Cymbal stand Designs with some of the newer designs which include the diskplate tilter. The original designs had a strong look and feel to them. The newer ones are great too, but I prefer the original designs. Because when I play with the original designs, I can see why they called it The Strongest Name in Drums.

A "stand" isn't a musical instrument
@PeterErskine_FuzzyMusic8 жыл бұрын
I was talking about the drums... Thanks.
@inthapocket3787 жыл бұрын
Fred Rogers it is an extension of a musical instrument so what's your point?
@kapildrums7 жыл бұрын
Actually it is. Drum hardware has a very deep effect on how the instrument feels AND sounds. Some drummers, for example, hate the way the tom-tom feels and sounds when is mounted on a cymbal stand. Plus, it affects the feel of the cymbal that is mounted on the same stand. So, if something feels differently you hit it differently so you SOUND differently. Another example is how many lugs are on a snare drum, 8 or 10? It greatly affects the sound and tuning of the drum. The sound of your hihats change from one hh stand to another. Especially if you go from a cheaper to an expensive one! HUGE difference. Drum Hardware is the same as the non-wooden parts that are on a guitar. Bridge, truss-rod etc. It is PART of the instrument. Hardware is what makes a drumset a DRUMSET. Without it, you have a bunch of drums lying on the floor. Same thing with guitar, without pickups and the rest you have just a piece of wood. ;)

Part of the reason I am so happy that Tama has re-engineered the classic flat-base stand ... it's the classic stand done right, in my opinion. Thanks.
@Mobby747 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter, it's pleasure to watch and listen to you playing every time, and more so at the years go by. Looking at the stands, I get the your feeling about the classic'ness of that solution, but as one of the youtubers above noticed, I can see that too, there is a little sway to them as you play. Does it matter at all as you play?
@PeterErskine_FuzzyMusic7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the note. We set the stands "high" (i.e., higher than I normally set them these days) to see how they fared under heavy playing (most of the playing I do nowadays is not so heavy) ... I'm using these stands for all local live and recording gigs; love the ease of use and the way the cymbals dance. Perhaps not for everyone. I love them and have waited quite a few years for a company to commit to redesigning the classic stand ... Tama has done a great job. Try 'em. If you like them, great ... if not, no harm done! 2 good thoughts from 2017: swing more and do no harm.
@Mobby747 жыл бұрын
Peter, thanks for reacting. The "high" setup of the stands was exactly what caught my attention, I remember you talked about bringing the cymbals lower than you used to place them, in the Erskin'e Method DVD. I know many drummers did set up their cymbals higher up and more vertically back in the day and I am curious about this set-up for myself but kind of can't get around to it. Is there a sound difference, or a stylistic difference coming in with putting the cymbals up in the air? And... I can only agree, doing no harm is an especially good idea now in 2017. Best wishes from Poland.
@ajay92728 жыл бұрын
So sad.You can even see the stand swaying in this produced video when the cymbal is played. Good luck with that in the clubs most of us play in - unstable stages and small spaces where band musicians are bumping into each other. Either Peter is hurting for money or he is really detached from day to day working musicians.
@inthapocket3787 жыл бұрын
Ajay Ajay look pretty stable to me as he is laying into his cymbals.
@ickysticky36727 жыл бұрын
Ajay Ajay You do realize that it's called a "classic" stand, right? The old stands of yesteryear swayed. They aren't designed to be bashed because few people bashed their cymbals back then. Even when music got louder and people played heavier when these stands were still in large use, they didn't fall over. Elvin Jones? Art Blakey? Ginger Baker? Ever see a stand of theirs fall on stage? Me neither. They obviously sway because they weigh what, 6 pounds? What do you expect from a cymbal you can pick up with you index finger?
