I love Us and IO. Us has some of ny favorite Gabriel songs: 1.-Blood of Eden 2.-Come Talk to Me 3.-Steam 4.-Digging in the dirt 5.-Secret World. I/O: 1.-This is Home 2.-I/O 3.-Olive Tree 4.-Four Kinds of Horses 5.-Love can Heal I also love The Power of the Heart from Scratch my Back, such a beautiful track.

I bought PG’s second album when it came out and saw him on that tour (and many times since). My top five albums would be: 1. Peter Gabriel 4 2. Peter Gabriel 3 3. Peter Gabriel 1 4. So 5. i/o (or possibly Passion)

Well now, this was refreshing! Confess this is my first listen on your channel and I love your super competent insights, much like dear Pete Pardo over on Sea of Tranquility. Also surprising because by far I agree with your ranking more than just about anyone else I've seen. Well done, this was very see worthy! I have a few albums I would move 1 or 2 places up or down compared to you but in the overall agree. Let me just mention two: I/O - I am far more disappointed with this than just about anyone else I've seen, so I obviously rank it lower. And then.... PASSION!! Folks, if you've never given this a serious chance, or think it sounds too "alien" on the first listen - this album is a freakin' musical and sonic masterpiece! It's simply incredible. Yes, it's very different to just about anything else out there but man.... on some days I rank it as my #1 PG album, it really is superb. Great video, thanks!

I should stop watching PG ranking albums cause it hurts me to see « up » so low each time ! This album is far better than some other stuff he made IMO … Also I saw the new blood orchestra live and it was the best show ever… everybody was crying including me …

First of all, Up is good. I don't think he's put a bad album out (you could argue OVO and Scratch My Back, I guess). And I have no doubt that being at one of those orchestral shows would have been an amazing experience.

Hello, i'm also a Gabriel Fan since the mid 80s; saw him on the "So" Tour and twotimes on his "Us" Tour... amazing concerts, great memories. The new album is in my opinion better than "Up", in 2002 i was really a little bit dissappointed. To "I/O" i have to listen more, but some really good tracks. In the background of the concert experiences "So" and "Us" have special places in my heart. "Red Rain" and "Mercy Street" are still my favorites... followed by so many amazing songs. In my ranking the positions from 1 - 8 are really strong albums. Nothing is really bad from Gabriel... a great artist. Greetings from germany... bye and take care. 1. So 2. Us 3. Security 4. Melt 5. Peter Gabriel 4 was also released in a german version. For me as a german both "Deutsches Album" are very interesting and i like them very much. But i am with you. SO is my favorit Album of his too.

I'm not the first person to say this, but here are my top 3 Peter Gabriel albums: 1.) Security 2.) Security 3.) Security In all seriousness, I'd say Us is a top 3 album when I switch 'Steam' out for 'Quiet Steam'. That song is so soft and delicate, it could crumble at any moment. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I once read a KZbin comment where someone said Quiet Steam was the original version, but it had to be re-worked because they needed a "hit".

I’m a first timer here and really enjoyed this video and your thoughts on a difficult ranking. Glad you included the soundtracks and Passion would definitely make my top 3. I suspect my ranking would have pg3 as #1, pg4 and Passion at 2&3, just because that was when I was really into Gabriel and seeing the tours etc. pg1 is probably my #4 with So at #5 by virtue of having one of his best songs - In your eyes, but was completely upstaged in the mid 80s by Hounds of Love by Kate Bush! It was really interesting what you had to say about Up as I have felt the same but never put it into words - Signal to Noise should be magnificent but just seems turgid.

The album "UP" is one of my favorite PG albums along with his first album. "US' is another great one I'd rank 3rd or forth. But honestly all his studio albums have a lot going for them I think ranking is kinda dumb but it's interesting to hear someones opinion on them anyway. It's surely not worth fighting about which is better than the other. The reason I mentioned "UP" as a top favorite is because of exactly what was said here, because of it's complexity and layering I actually didn't like it at first because I couldn't hear those traits but when I did it hit me hard it was like an epiphany and instantly transfomed my feeling about it. If you don't care for this album (like I didn't) do yourself a favor and clear your head and pay close attention NO distractions and hopefully you might change your mind, and I'm glad "I/O" has some of those same traits as "UP"

Security is a phenomenal album. It's what I would imagine an 80s Genesis album sounding like had Gabriel stayed on. It's so dark and atmospheric. I love it.

I liked the ranking, my "only" changes would be that my absolute favourite is his third album Melt and I would exchange So with Up. Actually I've never seen a ranking where Up is high, I just love the density, darkness and heaviness of that record, perhaps it's not really accessable for most people. But I really love the top 10 and Passion is also in my top 3!

@@amitytracks Yeah, probably. If I really want to name a perfect PG song, it would be Sky blue and I think Peter also said sg like that and he is so right! It's is my fav song from him in par with I don't remember as an emotional counterpoint. Two poles like Yin and Yang, yet both utter perfection.

One song you didn't mention from it that I think is really beautiful/powerful in its quiet way is "Washing of the Water." I need to listen to "Passion" again; I know that one (like so many other great records) because of your advocacy.

When I saw Peter live in October, he opened the show with "Washing of the Water." It was just him and Tony Levin onstage. Gorgeous. He also played 'I/O' in its entirety.

For me the big five are up, i/o, pg3, pg4 and The Lamb lies down on Broadway (for it is more a pg-album then a Genesis one... Let's call it pg0).

Lyrically it is all Gabriel, but most of the music on Lamb was written and recorded by the other Genesis guys when Gabriel was not present.

Can't believe Up and Long Walk Home were so low, your taste is very different to mine, clearly towards the pop influences. Comparing Long Walk Home and Bird to Vangelis? Really! Nothing like Vangelis, very world music, Eno/Jon Hassell would be more appropriate. That's misleading to folks who do not know those albums, especially Birdy. We can't all have the same taste, that would be very borin, I'm more prog rock/jazz/classical, so very different. Love the new album, the experimental aspect is below but with more listening it comes out more and more, especially love the dark side mix. The Atmos is great too but Dark side edges it for me personally. Here's were I'd put them: 1 Passion 2 Up 3 i/o 4 Us 5 3/melt 6 Long Walk Home 7 4/security 8 Birdy 9 So 10 1/car 11 2/scratch 12 Ovo 13 New Blood 14 Big Blue Ball 15 Scratch my back He's never made a bad album though. 2/scratch I still love but as a concept with Robert Fripp's Exposure and Darryl Hall's Sacred Songs, it's the weakest of the three, Exposure is magnificent. So, very different to your ranking but we shouldn't all be the same, that would be a boring world.

I agree, different rankings and different viewpoints is what makes these discussions interesting. Up in the 2 slot is really high! I don't think the Vangelis comparison is too off in the sense that Birdy and Long Walk Home are moody, synth-heavy, largely instrumental pieces. I see what you are saying, though. I do appreciate well done pop music, but I'm also a big prog fan (see my King Crimson week!) Also, we did a video awhile back on that Exposure trilogy. Fun video. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Can´t believe some people are scoring i/o in the same level as Us. Us is in the top three PG albums for me. i/o is overproduced and sounds generic.

I obviously disagree. I have always felt Us was a mix of amazing songs and some filler. So it kind of balances out. The more and more I listen to i/o, the more I am loving it.
