Ellen is simply wonderful. The magic ingredients to her playing are, 1) note accuracy, especially on a fretless. It's all there. 2) feel. Totally full of feel for the song. 3) Ellen loves playing the material to us. It's clearly in her smile, her love for the instrument and approach to music. She has a long musical career ahead of her, and I envy the fellow musicians she will meet to will drive her forward to great things. Best wishes and peace and love from an old retired musician in Yorkshire England.

@cuda426hemi Жыл бұрын
No it isn't. Not any more than any string section instrument of which none have frets. What they do have unlike violin. cello etc. is grooves where frets would be, that makes it just as easy to find where you have to be and w/o frets it's physically EASIER TO PLAY. If you don't have perfect pitch frets won't help much anyway. 🎸
@sarcasticguy4311 Жыл бұрын
@@cuda426hemi Not to mention that bass likely 99.99% has dots on the side of the neck.
@cuda426hemi Жыл бұрын
@@sarcasticguy4311 It's actually much harder to switch from 4 string to 5 string Bass then from frets to no frets. Why? Because not only does the music scale options open up by having 5 extra low notes but it totally messes up your physical ergonomics and the way you formerly played Bass; You must reexamine the board to integrate this new option. But as I said on fretless you still have grooves where the frets were (you feel them) and NO ergonomics change so it's not hard at all. I switched in minutes. But when I added 5 string it took days to get used to the new ergonomics and way of visualizing the board. 🎸
@theseventhsword874 Жыл бұрын
@@cuda426hemiThere would only be "grooves" on a defretted bass. I don't feel anything on my fretless.
@cuda426hemi Жыл бұрын
@@theseventhsword874 That may be true, I misspoke. What brand? Does it have the markers on edge? My Ibanez has markers on edge so you don't "need" grooves on the neck but it has subtle grooves also, of course others may not be grooved so I shouldn't have assumed. 👀
