The bass player is Tony Levin. He's one of those super musicians who gets called on to play with different artists but he's best known for being in King Crimson and in Peter Gabriel's band. I saw him live with his band, "Stick Men." They're progressive rock with bass and drums only!

I too have loved him every time I've seen him, with whoever he was with. The people he's played on albums with is a who's who of especially talented musicians. Just pulling the list off Wikipedia, there were some cool ones like the McGarrigles that I didn't even know about. (John Lennon, Sarah McLachlan, Paula Cole, Stevie Nicks, Pink Floyd, Paul Simon, Lou Reed, David Bowie, Joan Armatrading, Tom Waits, Buddy Rich, The Roches, Todd Rundgren, Seal, Warren Zevon, Bryan Ferry, Laurie Anderson, Kate & Anna McGarrigle, Gibonni, and Jean-Pierre Ferland.) I also love his work on the Chapman Stick.

I had NO IDEA that Peter Gabriel was such a great performer. I am impressed. I had never seen this song performed live. I only saw the "studio" version which was a masterpiece of special effects. Great saond and an ever better performance.

Sledge Hammer got a lot of airplay back then and was played in the clubs a lot. It won the MTV Video Music Award for Video of the Year. And yeah, the song was loaded with a lot of phallic symbols😂 Great reaction! I'd like to suggest Stomp by The Brothers Johnson. Great party song with a great vibe.

The keyboardist is David Sancious, a great session musician. He played with Sting, Bruce Springsteen and so many others. His solo work playing jazz-fusion is outstanding. Amazing keyboardist, but also a very good guitar player.

Dee, Chad...What you saw was Gabriel's regular backing band..they stayed with him almost 20 years--He credits them strongly for helping to forge his sound in interviews.

The ever-amazing Tony Levin ("T-Lev" or "Tone-11") on bass - Tony is now in his 70s, and still playing with King Crimson, his own band - "Stick Men", with his brother as "The Levin Brothers", "Liquid Tension Experiment", and many more! Love this SO much! I had never seen this performance! It was fantastic! Peter's live performances are all really great, but this was so much fun! I loved the look on Dee's face when she heard the opening horns! OK, now I am going to have the image stuck in my head, of Chod dancing into the room in his "Birthday Suit" to this song! Woo Hoo! Even thinking about it might be too much excitement for an old lady! Hey, it's your fault, Chod! LOL!

I keep commenting because Peter Gabriel is one of my favorite artists. My favorite album of his is Security. You have to check it out. As a percussionist, I PROMISE you that you will LOVE it. Well, I'm almost positive that you will. Very interesting, very rhythmic music. "Kiss of Life", I Have The Touch", "Lay Your Hands on Me." The whole album is great. "Shock the Monkey" was the hit, similar in some ways to "Sledgehammer."

"So" was a huge hit. I still prefer the ones he did prior to it, though. His album "3" is a masterpiece and an essential for all DRUMMERS, it's really impressive and so is "Security" where Phil Collins provided the symbol-less percussion style. That later become a staple on Phil's own albums and as well as with Genesis.
