This song is one of the best things I can do with my ears. And the video is more than just icing. I love all the lore associated with this track too. Gabriel's first concert was seeing - Otis Redding, I think? - with The Mephis Horns. So he brought The Memphis Horns in to perform the brass.

The movie that you're probably talking about is called "Rebound", Martin Lawrence was a basketball coach for a kids team, one of the kids was a tall nerdy kid that hey called the sledgehammer, when the kid walked out, they played this song.

Voted best video of the 80s by MTV poll on New Years 89. Tied for best song with the Eurhythmics " Sweet Dreams". A huge hit. Shock the Monkey was my intro to Peter, and SALISBURY HILL. BIG TIME was another similar to this about a year or so later.

This kind of beat was very common in the late 60's with Rhythm & Blues / Soul songs. Add some horns, Tony Levin's funky as heck bass grooves and Peter's smoky vocals with great backing vocals and you get a masterpiece.
