One of my favourites, from one of my favourite Peter Hammill L.P's. Thanks for this rare rendition.

This version is truly sublime and reveals, if it is necessary for someone, that Hammill is one of the greatest singers ever

Amazing! I always wanted a live version of that! And there it is! You are truly the best Professor...and that comes from a long fan and twice Impresario of Peter in the 70's. Merci Thanks Mille Grazie!...That was when Peter had voice and wasn't pathetic....

The sound quality reflects how this 'unofficial' recording was made using 1971 equipment, not by me. Additionally, there were technical sound problems on stage, as I mentioned already. I posted this because (i) the performance is excellent, and (ii) I can find no other live versions of this brilliant song elsewhere, although I will continue to search. In spite of the (adequate) sound quality, I absolutely love this version. Professorsicon

Thank you for pointing this out, but I'm not sure I understand what is pathetic. Still, I love the live performances of this much-loved songwriter. The breathing problems you point out only add to the emotion (desparation) in the performance of this lovely song (IMHO). The deviation from the original melody from the original artist only give us a new dimension to the song, in lieu of a mechanical repeat of an album version, sometimes even improving upon an album version. What kind of fool am I.

unfortunately the Sound Quality is not up to the Performance Level.

You should get his latest live album (PNO, GTR, VOX) to prove that he still has it.

The voice is gone, the subtleties the real craziness..all mechanical..cheating

This is a great version of Candle with full potential voice ..not the 21st century gone voice

Do you maybe suffer from schizophrenia? Asking with genuine concern. The reason I'm asking is this: You comment 10 years ago that this is amazing and you thank the Professor for publishing it, then a year later you say that it's pathetic, and then 8 years ago both boring and a great version of 'Candle'? What is strange is that you made a really good analysis of the Grounding in Numbers 6 years on this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aWqZeneia52Vm7c&ab_channel=CoelhoRabaiolli Are you well now?

In my fifties, I'm no longer as sharp as I was in my twenties, (or the same weight), and I suspect the same will be said for you.

Sorry i can see the cheating everywhere..in his breath, when he takes his breathings, the voice is mechanical...just not coming from the bottom of his ...some people can get fooled..not me i saw him so many times in the 70,s..i just see how he escapes the problems of the lines he has to sing..how he lost the melodic line of the songs etc...PATHETIC

you don't understand this is from 1971? It is also presumably completely acoustic NO mic.
