In Cornwall we call people "my lover" quite a lot. This got me into a bit of bother in a bar in Boston one evening. I needed to get to the bar, so I said to the woman in front of me, "excuse me my lover, may I get past?". Shè got quite indignant until the woman I was with explained to her that I was Cornish and that was just how we spoke. She seemed to like it after that.

Another great reaction Mandy! 🫶 Peter is one of the all time classic British comedians whom everybody seems to love 😁 To answer your question about people calling you "flower", it's a quintessentially British (typically Northern) thing to refer to people in this manner. It's just a term of endearment when talking to someone (even if they are a complete stranger) and I think that's why a lot of people around the world rate us northerners as some of the most kind and outgoing people they tend to meet 🙂 You have other terms such as love, petal, pet, duck, mucker and darling (to name but a few) and some of them are typically used when referring to either the same gender or opposite, depending on the situation and indeed the town or city you're in 🙏

@@MandyCaneLane you're welcome Mandy, you have a really infectious laugh that never ceases to relight the memory of the first time I saw these clips 🤪 Yeah the words do sound odd to those who aren't used to it 😂 Duck and mucker are really other words for mate/pal/buddy but they date back centuries. The history of Britain is pretty fascinating and sometimes it's a wonder we've managed to get where we are today 😂 A lot of towns and cities in the northern parts of England were heavily industrialised and the folk living in those times were categorised as hard labour workers. Unfortunately they had the label of not being very well educated due to being forced to leave school at a very early age (I think my own grandparents left school between the ages of 12-14 to go and work in the cotton mills and factories). This was all thanks to the class system in place that put them as lower down in the political "food chain" to the wealthy South, and as such you got this colourful, broad and versatile version of English that was spoken by the hardened, no nonsense grafters of the North, and that's where the origins of these words comes from 🙂 You can kinda get a feel for this when you watch Game of Thrones with the accent that the Starks have 😉

Hi Mandy... Flower... Petal... Honey... Sweetheart... Duck... Love... Etc... Are all terms of endearment or a greeting or used to thank someone too... Different words such as these are used by various geographical areas of the UK... For instance... If a lady in a Coffee Shop serves you your drink at the table... Instead of just saying Thank You... Someone might say Thanks Petal... Or Thanks Love... It's sometimes classed as a more personal kind of response to others by kind warm hearted people. 👍

He seems to be slowly stepping back into public life. He has performed a couple of shows, although his focus seems to be on charity specifically mitochondrial disease. So one could speculate it has somehow affected a member of his family. His own words say he has had firsthand experience of the effects and he has written new Car Share material for his book from which all profits go to the NHS. Whatever the reason lets hope things are better for him now and he can return to what he does best.

And thats what happens in every episode.....two people chat on the way to and from church...ps, im from The North and "flower" and "petal" are normal there but now i live in Devon and some locals use the term "my lover" which freaked me out for about a year specially as it tended to come from old ladies working in shops and cafes.....these are all safe and nice terms as is "my duck" (Wiltshire i think) and "darling"(Staffordshire) ...anyway its worth watching the smurf episode (G.O.T. connection)😈😇👍

Peter Kay's accent is actually quite heavy, so you're doing quite a good job if you understand most of it !!! ( It's a working class Bolton accent ( and yes : working class is a factor in the UK, i.e. much more of a factor compared to the US or/and Canada .. ) )

Flower, love, petal, sweetie these are terms of endearment that we use in UK specially if we don't know your name and also if we do. It's just a polite way of making you feel comfortable and warm inside

John and Kayleigh are such wonderful characters and a nice idea for a show…the first half is them going to work and arriving at supermarket car park, Kayleigh rather likes the muscular trolley guy.
