Peter Martin Knives - Full Tang Knife Handle Assembly

Preview of the newest DVD from my "How To" Projects. Over the last 20+ years of making knives, I've come up with a few techniques for full tang handle assemblies that not only save time, but also ensure a stronger and more reliable end product. Those are called Corby bolts. They screw together like nuts and bolts and are the best for securing the handle slabs. The tops are slotted for a screw driver during assembly, after gluing together, you file off the slotted portion of the Corby bolt and finish as needed. These are very popular because they can be engraved or textured for added beauty.

The pins are Corby rivots, available at most knifemaking supply houses.

I use West Epoxy from a local boating store, best stuff I've found.

If the tang (Metal between the scales) is broke, the knife is pretty much history as this usually indicates improper temper or severe abuse. Sometimes they cannot be saved.

How would one go about repairing the metal piece between the scales? By broken I mean spilt in half

i like the burned wood look of the second to last , how is that made ? and how you get the wood like that?

Nobody seems to show this step in any of their knife handle videos. I'm getting tired of watching people drill holes into wood and shape wood...I know how to use a file, rasp, and sandpaper, ok?

Every damn video about assembling handles LEAVES OUT the step of setting the brass (or whatever metal) pins. This is the one piece of the puzzle I can't seem to get right, and your video doesn't disappoint in disappointing me for, yet again, leaving out that step.

Those are Corby bolts, there’s no setting them. Tighten em and your good to go. I’m disappointed that you didn’t figure that out
