That was a fantastic interview. Tara did a great job striking a balance between allowing the guest to talk his fill and ensuring he didn't spend too much time talking about the same thing. The conversation felt organic and engaging. This is the type of content I really enjoy seeing come out of Rev3.

He is not a liar. The man is not a cheap and dirty business man. I think he is just too ambitious. He sees things in his game that nobody else does because its his creation. I don't trust a word the man says but I don't think poorly of him either.

I'd say he's almost like an old philosopher he see's these things that we dont and has these huge ideas but the only this is that he was born in a time where we either dont have the technology or the resources to make his dream a reality but he keeps pushing the make it happen I dont think it good but i dont think its bad

He already has on both paided PC amd F2P mobile. The only good thing people have to say is .... "wow that idea sounds amazing" then they play it, oh dear. Still at least Peter didn't claim the game would only take 9 months to finish .... wait .... yes that's exactly what he claimed
@Sjoerd1993
@Sjoerd1993 10 жыл бұрын
NickTheSane Were and when did he claim the game would take 9 months to finish? Your claim is completely bollocks. If you're talking about the delivery date of the kickstarter, he did deliver the beta on time. They never said it would be a complete game, the kickstarter says the beta will be deliverd in 9 months.
@NickTheSane
@NickTheSane 10 жыл бұрын
***** Sjoerd I got my claim from the Godus Kickstarter in the "why do we need your help?" section, just under neither the backers Avatars. Here it says "GODUS will take seven to nine months to complete" This section does not mention that it will only be the Beta that will take this long. Having said that if the Kickstarter does mention this then, I mean this sincerely, let me know where it states this and what it actually says.

7:53 to 8:27 I have read the Article Peter is referencing and they writer does NOT say at the end that "even though I have played it for 30 hours I don't think I can recommend it" What he ACCTUALLY said was "In truth, it's still hard to pin down what, if anything, 22Cans actually wants Godus to be. It's probably often this way in development. Maybe a team really needs to "experiment, fail, and experiment again," to quote Molyneux, even if that's under the harsh, critical glare provided by hundreds of customers who have already paid up for the ride. That should sound like typical iterative design at any rate, but after 70 hours of Godus, it actually sounds like blind, panicked, directionless design that chews up eager, talented developers and bores and confuses and angers the players. So far, it's produced a freemium distraction that can't yet admit that's what it truly is, an iPad game that seems to only have landed on PC to soak up some extra funding, and a god game that, when I play it, makes me feel like I'm even less significant than I already am in the real world." The whole article is here so you can make up your own mind on it's merit www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-04-24-can-godus-be-fixed

@nicholasball8931
@nicholasball8931 10 жыл бұрын
No he shouldn't, they have to be more honest than Peter For example a used car salesman couldn't say "here is this lovely Ford Focus only £10k" then take your money and give you a Nissan Sunny. This is effectively what Peter did with Early Access, sold a new deep and involving god game .... then made a Farmville clone

Do you remember that demo where he talks through fable 2's mechanics. Where he boasts how everything is done by the 'A' button. How it was so simple and innovative while in the demo he nonchalantly presses the A button over and over without even looking at the screen as the character is in combat. I'll give it to Pete, that fucker could sell utter shite and make a dime. Annoying thing is, people mistake his somewhat charismatic and false sincerity as ambition and love for his craft... Bollox, he's a very good speaker that has no moral issue with how he sells an idea of which he must know won't make it into the final product.

When he speaks about analytics, you can see he's very careful in the way it describes it. Because modern devs, use them mostly to see where and when it's time to sell more shit to the player. Which things sell better in which situations, so they make more situations like those during gameplay. So at the end of the day, if level and game design are now driven by the way you can sell in-app purchases to the player and how to guide the user so he/she needs paid "help" why are people playing these kind of games? This is a more complicated way of doing casino type games, yet not make them look like money holes. As far as i'm concerned Peter can go Molyneux himself.

I don't blame Peter Molyneux; he obviously had a really good team at Lionhead studios and he hasn't been able to find programmers to step up to his crazy aspirations since then. He needs a technical guy to try to take what sounds fun (everything Peter Molyneux says) and actually make it into fun game design. Black & White and Fable were great.

I like the analogy of the kitchen. Black and white used the have cards and stickers too when it was in beta. You had to buy sticker packs and cards with currency because it takes a lot of time for the core gameplay to program, so they used the free-to-play model as a place holder. Just like godus.

Liam Lysaght Fable 1 was a good hack and slash RPG, nothing special or mould breaking but it was good. Never played Fable 2 as it was never on PC. Fable 3 however is one of the worst games I have ever played. There was no feature in it that was enjoyable or lived up to the idea. It is yet another case of a great concept that Peter failed to implement

Great to see him interviewed, he's intriguing to watch whether you like him or not, I'd say. I may be wrong, but I think the gameplay shown was from old versions of Godus. I've been following the Kickstarter versions and these look like old builds, so the title of the video is slightly misleading.

Geeez people, take a chill pill. If you don't like Peter then why the frak did you click on the video that say's "Peter Molyneux" right up front? I think everything he said was very sensible and reflects what I've heard from other developers about Kickstarter and Steam Early Access. And if the guy wants to tinker away with his crazy game, I say let him tinker. I've got plenty of other things to play, and what I've played of Godus so far I thought was refreshingly different from other games I'd been playing. And having played it at this level, the concept of going to space with it is quite intriguing. Seriously, how can people hate Peter Molyneux?

Godus's early access problem was not the content but understanding the content. This video proves what a little communication and vision casting from the developer can do. If Molyneux/22cans would have kept up communication early on it would have gone a long way to decrease a lot of the bad press they got.

Peter is just an elderly statesman of a gaming era long gone. The fact that he still talks about some of the features of his latest project as if they're groundbreaking really proves that he hasn't paid attention to what the rest of the industry has done in the last 15 years. The same goes for people like Richard Garriott. Out of touch with reality, spent creatively, and just looking to cash in on their legacy to either fund a lifestyle that they can no longer afford or maybe a drug habit. Either way, it's embarrassing and sad.

The problem is he ISN'T delivering. The general feeling of the people that funded this game is that what Peter promised and what Peter is delivering bares little to no resemblance. To use Peter's analogy of the Kitchen. Peter is making a Kitchen when he promised to make a Bathroom. Strangely enough people are cross, Peters response to this is "I'm not finished yet don't worry it will be perfect and exactly what you wanted". During this time the backers are going "where's the shower going to go? Why are you putting an oven in?"

Either put your own cash into a game, have closed alpha and beta complete with NDA's, then release when it is complete...or use early access and Kickstarter to shill money based on promises and accept people will have a vested interest in its development. This guy needs to have a reality check.

8:37 Did he just basically say that games need enough padding in order not to feel short? WTF? And then he goes on to say that the players have all the freedom of not having wait times ... only then the game punishes them? Where's the freedom then? How can you be a game design legend and not know the first thing about game design?

To everyone calling him a liar: sorry to break it to you but by that definitely everyone in the games industry "lies" because nothing ever turns out 100% as is you describe it as you intend it to be. Most of the time designers don't talk directly to the public and they generally don't talk about their ideas to the public either because that's what they are... ideas that you often scrap. That's what the process of making a game is. Peter dreams too big and is too vocal about promising his dreams. It's pathetic to see people attack him personally for his faults. Link me your accomplishments in the gaming industry and then you'll have room to talk.

He needs to focus more on the basics and build off of that rather than taking a bunch of nice ideas and hoping they will somehow all come together in the end.

I actually don't anymore. Which is why I bothered asking the fucking question. My mind has already stopped caring about the opinions of the show hosts and I no longer feel any need to watch their content. I'll probably have unsubscribed from their channel in a week, not that it's any of your business.

If you are asking for money for an early access game then expect to be critiqued. Finished or not, you are selling a product, you're not exempt. Some leniency should be observed sure because it's not finished. But you cant just have positive feedback. You need the good and the bad to be fed back to make the finished product the best it possibly can be. If a developer cannot accept that then logical'y they are just after the cash. It's a question of do you want it to be the best or do you want it to be just acceptable? And who better to tell you what is bad about it than the people who play it? The people you are making it for? As long as they can talk and communicate that feedback like an adult of course.

Why are people throwing their money at this guy? Look at his record. Fable 1 was a success because of the team, not the director. The more control this guy has on a project, the worse it turns out. The Fable series is now a fucking joke.
