What rock star in the 80s would've ever said he likes to read and hang out with his daughter? Maybe Robert Smith would've said something like that, but I can't think of anyone else. The thing that makes Peter Murphy different is the thing that makes him *spectacular*. That's why so many of us absolutely love him.

This better had not happened back in "the 80's or early 90's" because ( provided this story is even "true"... ) if that GORGEOUS GOD had asked me for a "nearby restaurant" I would have fucking dropped down on my KNEES and turn his LOWER REGIONS into my own fucking KINKY RESTAURANT without missing a beat ( slurp!!!... ) ***Happy Birthday, Peter!!!***July 11th 2021***

Peter Murphy --- his eyes and stares are something else... Beyond this world when you look into them His voice is pure liquid gold. Dark, mysterious, sensual, deep, moving, one of a kind. The delivery of the vocals / lyrics like when he holds that wind lyric note. I find you in the morning After dreams of distant signs You pour yourself over me Like the sun through the blinds You lift me up And get me out Keep me walking But never shout Hold the secret close I hear you say You know the way It throws about It takes you in And spits you out It spits you out When you desire To conquer it To feel you're higher To follow it You must be clean With mistakes That you do mean Move the heart Switch the pace Look for what seems out of place On and on it goes Calling like a distant wind Through the zero hour we'll walk We'll cut the thick and break the thin No sound to break no moment clear When all the doubts are crystal clear Crashing hard into the secret wind You know the way It twists and turns Changing color Spinning yarns You know the way It leaves you dry It cuts you up And takes you high You know the way It's painted gold Is it honey Is it gold You know the way It throws about It takes you in And spits you out Oh, cuts you up Oh, cuts you up Oh, cuts you up Oh, la la la la la la la la You know the way It throws about It takes you in And spits you out It spits you out When you desire To conquer it To feel you're higher To follow it You must be clean With mistakes That you do mean Move the heart Switch the pace Look for what Seems out of place Oh, cuts you up Oh, cuts you up It's o.k. It goes this way The line is thin It twists away Cuts you up And spits you out Keeps you walking But never shout Oh Oh

I saw this show in Nashville, TN believe it or not. It was in a venue that no longer exists--no seats, everyone stood--and there was a big crowd. Two things I remember so well: 1. Usually the band will come out and play and then the singer will run onstage to thunderous applause. That wasn't what happened. Peter Murphy just walked out with the band, as casual as could be, and stood in the corner until it was time for him to start singing. From far away, you thought, is that him? Isn't he going to make an entrance? And 2. When he did start singing, some people at the edge of the stage kept raising their arms up and trying to grab him--almost like they were trying to grab his cr#tch. (He was that close to the edge of the stage.) And he stepped back and just said, "Stop that, it's stupid." Lol.

I went to the same high school as Jewel in Anchorage. I was a senior and she was a sophomore at the time so I barely remember her. It was at Stellar Secondary, the nerd school (no bells, we could leave class whenever we wanted and there were no requirements to go to class as long as we kept up; it was like college in a sense.) Apparently Jewel didn’t like it there; which makes sense since she always seemed really shy and non-talkative.

Jane's Addiction & Cathouse opened for him. I was backstage w/Cathouse but met Dave Navarro - an incredibly kind person. A friend called a famous hotel on Sunset Strip Hyatt House (aka Riot House cuz all bands stayed there) & had the nerve to ask for "Mr. Murphys room please". And they put her through!! We heard his voice say "who is this?" all annoyed & hung up on her (I was listening in) Good times!

@@robin9876 I have met Pete a few times; last time, was in his dressing room, where we sat down for a chat. Oh, and with David, too. That's funny about calling Pete's hotel room. Back in 91-93, I did some volunteer work for LifeBeat in NYC -when it was still a fledgling organization. Well, Iggy was playing Boston and had requested LifeBeat set-up a table with condoms, literature, et cetera. I worked the table (which was funny, having Grandmothers telling me to "FUCK OFF!" when offering them condoms. I didn't get to see much of any of that show, but a few months later, in Spring of 94, I was down in Providence, RI, with a friend's band and we rented a couple rooms at the Biltmore Hotel. After my friend's band played, I went strolling around town and ended up outside the (old) Strand - where Iggy was playing that night. I got security to get Henry - Iggy's tour Manager, to come outside and told him how I'd missed the majority of the previous gig; so he let me and some new found friends into the show. What a blast that was. But afterwards, when we all got back to this (nice) hotel, we saw a large white drum set and heard it belonged to Igg's drummer an that they were staying in the hotel that night. When we got up to our room, I called downstairs and requested to speak with "Jim Osterberg". They said "no one with that name is registered". So, I went with a couple older women - both are also pro-Photogs. We rode the elevator to each floor, looking for Iggy. We finally found his floor, but were greeted by a big dude outside the elevator doors. :( Funny enough, I have photographs of ALL of this! lol PS If you're into Pete Murphy or David J, check out my channel... Tons of Pete Murphy Live videos (from front and center; as well as front row footage of David - from a gig he and I did in 2012.

@@robin9876 I know from interviews, Pete's only [Physical] interaction with Bowie, was on the set of the Hunger, where David said he was 'scared/too nervous' (paraphrased) and 'hid in the dressing room'. However, David chatted him up out by a jukebox. But Pete's mentioned in an interview about having Bowie's phone number; yet wanted to respect his space. I Google searched and there are no pics or scanned hard copies of David with Pete; just silly Photoshop montages.

Funny how much this sounds just like the studio version,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,even though he's prancing and exercising all over the stage. Not out of breath at all. And the new band sound EXACTLY like the old one. Funny, that.

We didn't have on-line resources, that's why. Back in the good old days you'd have needed 1st to hear it on radio and then eventually walk into the closest disc store hoping to find what was wanted... And of course that didn't all come for free.
