PETER PAN 2003 MOVIE REACTION! Today I'll be watching a film I have never seen before Peter Pan released in 2003 for the first time. Here's my Peter Pan reaction. Want to watch the ENTIRE Movie with me? Check out: / timotheereacts
As Wendy Darling (Rachel Hurd-Wood) recounts stories to her brothers, John (Harry Newell) and Michael (Freddie Popplewell), she is visited by Peter Pan (Jeremy Sumpter). Peter, a boy who magically never ages, invites Wendy and her brothers to Neverland, an island where he lives with the Lost Boys. Once there, however, Wendy and her brothers are kidnapped by Captain Hook (Jason Isaacs). Peter, with assistance from the fairy Tink (Ludivine Sagnier), must face Hook in order to rescue the Darlings.

Its actually tradition in the original plays that whoever plays Mr Darling also plays Captain James Hook---hence why Malfoy played both roles.

This will always be the BEST live action Peter Pan movie. It's guaranteed that the upcoming Disney one won't be even half as good as this, even the colors in that one looks so dark and muted. This film understood the assignment of being a fantasy movie, being brightly lit, colorful and full of magic straight out of a storybook. Saw it in theaters in 2003 and it's been cemented in my mind ever since. I love how they were faithful to the original source material while handling Peter and Wendy's love story really well and tackling on themes like the pressures of growing up. Also the score by James Newton Howard really slaps! Jeremy Sumpter and Rachel Hurd-Wood actually had crushes on each other during filming. Now they're both married to other people but still remain close friends.

Fun facts: this is the most true-to-the-books Peter Pan adaption. They even had the actor who played the dad, play Captain Hook, which is a tradition, in the original play. The main difference in this film is that Peter Pan is not in love with Wendy, he only thinks of her as a mother because that’s the only love he can know. My dog is also named Pan because of my love for the original book. So happy you’re doing these! Watch Finding Neverland next!

In this movie Peter WAS in love with Wendy, he just was afraid to admit it. Think about it, he is "father" and she is "mother", they're playing house. Plus the kiss at the end?? And his reaction? He doesn't see her as a mother, he was just afraid that the emotion of love would change him and he would have to go grow up. That's what the Peter part of the movie was about, him accepting such a complicated emotion. Captain Hook figures it out at the end, and uses it against him. Wendy giving him her hidden kiss filled him with love, and such a strong and positive emotion helped him defeat Hook

Aside from Hook it's probably one of the best live action Peter Pan adaptations. The kid they got for Peter truly did embody his childish, cocky and chaotic nature, plus Jason Isaacs as Hook and Mr Darling leaves a slight opening for allegory The music as well is great, so full of whimsy

Personally I think this movie is the best adaptación of "Peter Pan" and Wendy. I still think a movie about "Peter Pan in the Kensington Gardens" is needed, which is the first book of Peter Pan. In that book, besides his adventures, he used to be the musician of the Royal Fairy Court si that's why he knows "manners" and dance waltzes. In the book, Hook always struggles with the idea of good forms and discipline because he is the adult and at the end he couldn't tolerate that a kid had better good forms than him because Peter was actually willing to spare his life in the last battle and that's why he preferred to die than to allow Peter to have the upper hand at the end.

27:53 So about this part: in the play, Peter asks the audience to help him revive Tinker Bell in the same way they do it here. I suppose having him break the fourth wall and ask the viewers to say they believe in fairies wouldn't work as well as it did when done in front of a live audience. Movies and Plays are two different mediums.

In every production of Peter Pan, the same actor plays Mr. Darling and Capt. Hook, yes even the original animated Disney film. As to whether Neverland is real, many children's fairy/fantasy stories use this device. The children go on a fantastical adventure but always return home to the real world. Neverland, Narnia, Wonderland (as in Alice in Wonderland).

Great reaction! I don’t know if it’s been mentioned, but there is an alternate ending to this film in which case the whole story is told by an adult Wendy as a bedtime story to her daughter Jane. She goes to sleep while Wendy is up sewing by the fireplace in the nursery. Suddenly, Peter returns for Wendy. Unfortunately Peter finds that she has grown up, married, and become a mother. However, he cheers up when he meets Jane who wishes to go to Neverland for a while with Wendy’s permission. I do highly recommend Finding Neverland, which is about how the author of Peter Pan was inspired by the family that inspired the book and play. 🧚✨🏴‍☠️🐊🕰⚔️💚💛💙❤️

I'm not sure the lore, but in every version of Peter Pan, since the original play, the father always plays Hook. If you go back to Disney's version; you can hear the Father and Hook are the same voice actor. Hook represents the villain in Peter's world; just as Wendy's father represents the villain in her life. The father wants Wendy to grow up; which she isn't ready for. So she runs away to Neverland; so she doesn't have to, but Hook is there, to cause her too grow up.

OMG finally!!!! This is so much better than the remake one that Disney is trying to do, and the best Peter Pan movie out there. Like, this move came out when I was 1 year old, but they did recreate the glow for Tinker Bell and went all the way in to create the customs for the characters. You can see they're telling their own version of the story, but they didn't miss out so much that you can't tell it's the same story anymore like Disney's remakes.

This may be chauvinism cause the actress is a frenchie, but this version of Tinkerbell always cracked me up. Ludivine Sagnier's expressivity when she mimics all the nasty thing she'd like to do to Wendy is hilarious. I won't say I'm a fan, but there is 2 other movies she's in that I had seen, and she's great in both of them (and both may worth a reaction, if you can found them with english subtitles) : 8 Femmes (8 Women) by François Ozon (though for a non french speaker, a certain aspect of this movie may be kinda annoying), and Lou ! Journal Infime (Lou ! Infinitesimal Diary) by Julien Neel. Also, the father and the "evil dreamworld antagonist" being portrayed by the same actor is a trope often used in movies including children trying to escape parental conflicts. It was the same in the original Jumanji movie, and I believed it's a trope that was introduced in the theater play of Peter Pan, in the 40's or so (but I'm not trustful to my memory, so don't hesitate to correct me if I'm wrong).

It took me a couple viewings of this movie to get used to Tink but I really like her now. She's more true to the book than the Disney adaptation for sure. Yes having the father and Hook played by the same actor comes from the theatre, because they'd never be on stage at the same time so it was easier to just hire one actor to play both roles.

The reason Peter forgets about John and Michael it’s because in the books because he’s so old he has a very forgetful mind so on that journey to Neverland, he forgot about them three times left them by themselves in the middle space, and then came back for them because he remembered And then he is also known for cutting pieces of the lost boys offs so they can fit inside the treehouse and if that didn’t work, he would just kill them because they were growing up in the books. Peter is the only one who doesn’t age and he can never love somebody that would require growing up, so that’s why he’s so against it .in the books He can only feel motherly love but obviously movies they change that

Absolutely the movie adaptation truest to the source material, though the love story is tad exaggerated here. (It's mostly subtext in the play and novelization.) But so much of this is direct Barrie, from the nightlights as the eyes a mother leaves to watch her children to fairies only having room for one feeling at a time to Peter's constant forgetfulness (implicitly a function of his never growing up; you can't have memories if you don't grow up). The "I do believe in fairies" scene is a reference to the play and the book, where Tink says she thinks she can get better if all children everywhere believe in fairies and Peter, in the play, asks for the audience's applause. Barrie didn't think the grown-ups would clap in the original run. Almost every one of them brought down the house in a standing ovation. Peter Pan definitely is a Jesse from Tuck Everlasting kind of immortal rather than an Edward Cullen kind. When you have child or teenaged immortals, they are either very old people in very young bodies or they are perpetual children, stuck with the understanding and mentality of their physical age forever. Stagnant and unchanging. Peter Pan doesn't have a hundred years of understanding. He is forever (insert adaptation age here-Barrie's was probably less than six, as he still had all his baby teeth. This one seems closer to twelve). I used to envy Peter Pan so much. I wanted never to grow up. The older I get, the sadder he seems, however, and it's saddest of all that he chooses to stay stuck.

From the original source material, everyone has their own Neverland that we all can visit our respective one when we're dreaming, esp as children. However, the one we see in the movies is Peter's. I think the Neverlands are also all connected somehow too, which explains the scene abt how the ppl everywhere were saying, "I do believe in fairies."

Many people say that this version of *Peter Pan* is the one most true to the original material, meaning, presumably, the original play *Peter Pan* (1904), and the book, *Peter Pan and Wendy* (1911), both written by J.M. Barrie. But I'd like to warn you (and everyone else) against taking that claim at face value. Most versions pick and choose what to include or leave out from the original sources, and this one is no different; but in addition to that, it also includes a huge amount of invented material and reinterpretation that make it very different from J.M. Barrie's originals.

Remember that the logic of this world and its characters are based on the perspective of children. That’s the whole point. So, for example, when they build a house around her - that’s totally a kid logic thing to do. Plus, it makes it into a game, which is what Peter always does.

Even though I still prefer the Disney cartoon, since that the one I grew up with, this is a pretty good adaption.

This happens to be my one of my favorites for Peter Pan films. If you like this version, I think you might like Neverland (2011) - the TV miniseries. Not very many people like it, but it’s in my top five faves. Charlie Rowe as Peter, Keira Knightley and Charlotte Atkinson as Tinkerbell. For Hook and Smee, I won’t reveal. I think that would be too much of a spoiler. 😏

I watched in theaters the Disney animated version (a rerun, I'm not THAT old), Hook (1991) and this version (2003). This is easily my favorite of the three. It works really well as a joyous adventure while also hinting at the sadness and fear lurking beneath its surface. Twenty years later, still the best retelling of Barrie's story I've watched.

The reason why the same actor plays Dad and Captain Hook comes from when the play was performed in the theater. The same actor played the father and Captain Hook, in the same way that a young actress played Peter Pan to pretend to be a pre-adolescent boy.

You should watch Finding Neverland. Which is about how J. M. Barrie and his relationship with a family which inspired him to create Peter Pan. Based on the novel The Man Who Was Peter Pan by Allan Knee

This movie was actually supposed to be the prequel to Hook (1991), but since they couldn't get Dustin Hoffman to reprise his role, they dismissed the idea.

I love the I Do Believe in Fairies scene because it kind of shows how all of us, just a little bit, believe in fairies. Even adults.

It's funny how smee used to mention black beards name in Peter pan returns to neverland because James hook used to be a slave to blackbeard until freed him. That's very unfortunate that two people used to be friends then because sworn enemies.......
