I can't believe that they had Wendy punch Peter in the face. Not only would Peter be straight out called an abuser if the reserve happened, but it's dissonant to Wendy's gentle, maternal role in the original book.

I don't recall that. When in the movie was that?

@@NotAVampyre Just after Peter "saves" the kids from being drowned by the pirates and Hook escapes from the crocodile. It cuts to all of them on a cliffside and Peter turns to Wendy, "Well that was fun." Then Wendy suddenly just slaps him. Then cut to another scene.

Excellent points about media in general. It has been an odd development in pop-culture, that this so called realism has become the highest calling in media products that simply can never be done, nor should ever be done, fully realistic. The very unfortunate fallout of this has been, as you briefly pointed out, the need for these products to do a symbolic apology when they know that some scenes or concepts require a suspension of disbelief. Usually in a form of undercutting lampshade-joke. i have also fallen out of love with MCU movies recently, for a few reasons. One of them being this exact problem. More so, after the end of the Infinity saga, I have been able to look back at it with a more critical eye. While noticing many problems with the first three phases that I previously have been simply ignoring, the viewer insulting lampshade-humor, and the lack of sincerity are absolutely among of them. I fully hear and support your point here about there being a need for a more quality, sincere fantastical stories in pop-culture going forward.

Shocked at the quality and professionalism of this video essay from such a small youtuber! I dont usually comment, but I just had to say I really enjoyed this video despite not knowing much about Peter Pan and not having seen the 2023 film. You’re doing a great job, can’t wait to watch your other Peter Pan content

I don’t think this is the worst Peter Pan adaptation I think pan is worse than Peter Pan and Wendy but it’s not a film. I’m going to revisit anytime soon.
