I used to work for a mailing house that packaged these types of letters and collected checks for Peter Popoff. It was pretty amazing the amounts of money some people sent in. 10 years ago that printed hand written look really fooled a lot of people. It even captures where the ink "bleeds" from holding the pen still too long.

Someone did a show on this asshole, and they found that his demands would increase, and the stuff he would send just got stupider and stupider as time went by. I'm assuming that they get people's names by either buying mailing lists, or because some other asshat gets hooked and provides your name as someone in need. An unfortunate thing about these people is that they're protected by the first amendment, and so they can basically rob people in the name of religion.

My parents and I were fooled by Popoff in 1986. My Mom & I were called on stage by name, he told her throw away my seizure meds as God had healed me on the stage. H O G W A S H !!! A few days later I had 2 more seizures, and a "release of funds" promised for my Dad was a LIE. A few days later we chanced to see James Randi expose Popoff. I "suppressed" my anger & wrote him asking that he 'turn from such falsehood, else he'd never be blessed'. Surprise, surprise, his only response was a "boohoo, my enemies are persecuting me" (Dude, you're spreading blatant lies to God's people, what'dya expect!?!) I've never again been to a "faith healer or watch programs purporting healing. GOD has preserved my life more times than I can count. Put your faith in Him, NOT fake "healers"!

ugh, how short our collective memories are. he runs infomercials here in the states and it literally brings me to tears. he shows videos of his "healings" and while i have no doubt that some are actors, i know many of them are being psychologically manipulated into giving him their medication and medical devices to dispose of. you see these poor senior citizens that clearly have mobility problems buy into his bullshit and take off braces or get out of wheelchairs and slowly begin psyching themselves up to the point that they "painlessly" run or dance about. these are clear delusions that could cause serious complications. he and his ilk prey upon the down trodden and destitute as they tend to be the least educated and are thus more susceptible to such shenanigans (as can be evidenced in the letter where-in he instructs you to borrow the money or go without), and while i fully support everyone's right to believe in and worship whichever invisible friend they choose, the ignorant should be protected from this type of chicanery. unfortunately scum like popoff and hynn hide behind a religion that the clearly do not believe in. fuck the lottery, religion is the biggest tax on the poor that has ever been conceived.

it is all true i sent popoff some money. he sent me a package of water and as per his instructions i poured it on my penis. I wanted a longer penis because i wanted to get into porn movie making business. So i asked popoff for an extra long penis you know to really stick out i asked him so my penis would touch the floor as i walked i was sort of making fun at him. Time passed and one day i got up and i felt real strange. I got ready got dressed and i was going for my first interview in the porn movie making business, i was really happy as i stepped of the curb i got hit by a street sweeper. I do not remember anything else except waking up in the hospital. During the day the doctor that saved my life walked in and told me what happened some bad news but i am alive, they had to remove both my legs, as i was lying there and listening to my doctor i really could not stop thinking of popoff making my dream come true, yes my penis touches the floor but i got no legs . I wrote to popoff to send my money back

No no.... Once they get the cash they immediately put whoever sent it into their "good payers" list and they will absolutely slam you with thousands of miracle offers just like this. Unfortunately many old people here in the usa get taken by these things and send guys like this literally hundreds of thousands of dollars. Back in the 90's when I was a kid and you wanted summer money there were always ads in the classified section of the paper for jobs like "no age requirement" "make as much as you want" and they were for an "envelope stuffing" business, or they called it that so they wouldn't have to make you an employee so you would get a stack of letters and your job was to arrange these items and put them in an envelope and do things like circle the person's name and fill out the checkboxes for them. Nowadays it's all automated on computer though, they have a huge database and a printing system that they can crank out like 100,000 letters per hour on, and it does pay off. I believe Peter Popoff is worth over 10 million dollars today and he's not even the most successful at it, there is another scam like this in the USA from "st matthews churches" where they send you this piece of paper and call it a prayer matt and they tell you do do some prayers over it and then send them a check...

the most screwed up part about that first letter is, not only does he want to rip you off $21 bucks, but also wants the colorful soft piece of crap "fleeces" back too! (which, by a very tiny margin, is the best thing inside that envelope). I finally tried to get him to send me the letters under the ridiculously long name "Srijayawardenapura Kotte" and it came back only as "Sri Kotte". This surely proves that it's mass produced. Because the writer doesn't get paid enough to write such a long name of a Sri Lankan city and the underline would not fit on them.

I am not even annoyed that much by the spirituality and biblical BS of this letter. I get that for some people that is what they have for comfort, hope and guidance, even though it's an ineffective way of believing in your self and gaining self confidence (often told as "believing in god"). No the most annoying fact is how they approach you as an utterly helpless piece of shit basically, and will promise a brighter future to those who are the easiest to hurt by this. And if you don't do it, well then you're basically screwed for life and fate will get to you! These scams make me so mad. Abusing the sociological system in many different ways.
