Peter previews his new kite, and we fly some others

My 2,134th kite video. Peter has made another kite, and planned to fly it for the first time, although it didn't all go to plan.

So glad the weather let it shine, let it shine. Spring is on its way. Great mix of kites and I am sure Peter's new kite will do well next time. Good decision not to damage it on the first try. Well my sleep routine is like the weather. Very changeable.

It's certainly way past your bedtime, Carl! Spring is here, but the winds are very unstable so there won't be much kite-flying happening, unfortunately.

He's a great character, and does a strange "scissor dance" when the wind gets higher. Unfortunately it's a kite that hasn't been made for many years now.

Great display. I like Peter (non) Pointer new kite. Sky Dude is excellent too. I have an original Martin Lester 'Icarus the Flying Man' kite bought off eBay about 15 years ago (and it was old then) ! Getting rather fragile. Where to buy a new Sky Dude ??? Keep 'em comin' Jim. Thanks

Definitely not a Pointer, but an interesting design, partly derived from the Totem. Sadly, the Kite Dude has been out of production for many years, even before I was given mine, I think, and that was a long time ago.

That applies to scooters as well, of course. Last night I watched Michael Portillo riding pillion on an ancient Lambretta around the streets of Milan - it reminded me of my Lambretta from around 1961 to 1963 around the less glamourous streets of Worthing! (Oh, and a very nice trip to the New Forest for several days with a lovely young lady on the rear seat!)

Peter's kite looks great! Is that whats called a "Pointer" kite? Seen similar on other kite festival videos. Do they have a single bridle point? Quite mysterious flyers.... ; - ))

It's not a Pointer, Bill. I have three of them, which I've shown a few times and will (I hope) fly again soon. They fly amazingly well from a single point in very light wind. Peter's kite is more like a Totem (which I've also shown), but really a style of his own. I hope your weekend is going well.

@@JimNicholls I did a "google" on pointer kite and yours was the first to come up! I see the difference now. I think it was the single flying point that I thought the name came from.... It's quite intriguing how they fly with just the one tie point to the kite. Both styles look extremely nice.

The Pointer is certainly something special, Bill. I don't know how much of the design was skill and how much a lucky accident, but it definitely is different from anything else and flies very well.

Greetings 😀, I am a young man passionate about kites and I am looking for help with a new project I am working on. I am making a 1.5m high Cody kite. I have already managed to finish it after 6 months of work but I have not been able to get it to fly 😮‍💨. I do not know the exact measurements of the straps (bridles). Could you please help me? 👏

Sorry for the late reply. I have a small Cody kite somewhere in my collection, but have been unable to find it to make any measurements for you. If it turns up soon, I'll let you know. I think there are several sites on the internet where you can find plans for Cody kites, and I would guess that they provide details of how the bridle lines should be.
