My parents have owned Kia's since 2006 when they first bought the '06 Sportage. It was pure white with metallic gray bumpers. It was a hideous SUV, with an under-powered v6, plain interior, and cheap black plastic bits everywhere. But make no mistake, that thing is built like a tank. You could kick any panel of any new vehicle this year and cause it crumple like a piece of paper. But not this '06 Sportage. The steel sheet metal was so thick nothing short of a crash could damage it. Not only that, there has never been an engine/transmission problem with regular maintenance. I got a nice job this year and was looking at certified pre-owned cars on CarFax when I came across the 2018 Kia Cadenza Limited. It's one of the most stunningly-designed business sedans I've ever seen. I remember watching a video with Schreyer discussing the design of the Cadenza. I bought it a week later. The concave grille with vertical slats is over-the-top cool and it makes the car look more expensive than it is. The front horizontal amber LED turn signals with the Z-accent is so stunning at night. There's so many sharp and soft lines, and the way the greenhouse sits on the body is just elegantly perfect. They say if you don't look back at your car while walking away from it, you bought the wrong car.

First thing first, Congratulations to Peter for wining MotorTrend's man of the year award. Dude have a fascinating career and left his mark in the industry. He transformed Kia/Hyundai into a force to be reckoned with. Here, they went from Taxi specials into dominating the small & midsize segments in less than 10 years. Peter's designs played a significant role in that transformation. I didn't know he worked on the original R8, that's my all time favorite Audi. 👍 I completely agree, the way Asians plan ahead for 15, 20 years is amazing and people can learn a lot from that. On a side note, was Peter wearing a Hublot? Love the episode M. Cool socks by the way. 👌

Kudos to Peter Schreyer for bringing good looking cars for the masses. To this day, many 9-10 years old Kia and Hyundai still looks better than many modern cars in the same class, 2nd to Mazda, while still being comparably practical.

this German raised the entire Korean car industry. Before his arrival, Korean cars were not very popular.

It was a very smart move for Hyundai to hire him.

I wish he would of pressed more on the Stinger concept coupe. I think Mr. Schreyer dismisses that car too quickly. That car would absolutely kill.

26:35 Was Piech still alive when this interview was taken? He apparently died on Aug of 2019.

I believe Hyundai brought in Peter because the KIA was outselling Hyundai globally.
