What’s bad about pizza: it’s mostly cheese (dairy=coagulated milk fat-high in cholesterol , saturated fat, sodium, with little nutritional value) The rest of it is bread (simple Carbohydrate that turns into sugar upon enterning the upper intestine-bread doesn’t feed the lower intestine with complex carbs-like the ones found in: yams 🍠 sweet potatoes 🍠 plantains, refrigerated rice, etc And the tomato sauce is mostly sugar, the nutrients being minimal-maybe some pectin from the tomato) So TL;DR Pizza is just sugar, diary fat, and more sugar=unhealthy (should not be a meal all by itself)

Just looking for keeping my shape, maybe gain some lean mass" My friend -(dad body type) "I haven't trained in the last 8 years, now I'm overweight. I'm also an heavy smoker and a social drinker, working a sedentary job. My goal is to get in shape, mostly for health reasons" With a poker face I admire to this day, the personal trainer proceeded to show us both the exact same excercizes and machines, at the end of the session he printed two "personalized training schedules", which were absolutely identical

Pizza: It’s white flour, which spikes your insulin pretty quick and really doesn’t have any nutritional value… under tomato sauce which - if natural - is great, but usually has a bunch of added sugar… under cheese, usually with processed meats, which are both inflammatory. Most CF gyms’ nutrition recommendations are paleo/Whole30-“ish”, so those are generally frowned on. @@TriggerStand like most things in moderation not a lot. But in general carbs provide less nutritional value in comparison to protein and fats. Carbs also give the higher spikes in blood sugar out of the 3 also causing a higher insulin spike in response. Proteins and fats keep you satiated longer than carbs so you eat less often allowing for longer periods of fasting which is generally healthier. Also of note there are essential fats and essential proteins but no essential carbs. Essential means we are unable to produce those in the body. It’s simple. The more food is processed (it’s ingredients list looks like it came out of a lab) the more unhealthy it is. A homemade pizza will be far superior to a store bought one. The biggest problem with pizza is that it is calorie dense, therefore serving sizes need to be taken into account. Also, the cured meat is likely full of nitrates, the sauces are often full of trans fats, and the crust is full of simple carbs. The fatty cheese adds a lot of calories (fat is calorie dense). A pizza now and again isn’t going to hurt you. The human body is resilient. Do your best to eat a well balanced diet of natural foods and you will be fine. Just don’t pig out on junk processed food all the time and expect to be in great shape.

I’ll answer this right now lol. Most fast food pizza dough is made of highly refined wheat flour and hydrogenated vegetable seed oil. The tomato sauce usually contains just as much sugar as a can of soda. Most pizza cheese isn’t even real cheese which would actually make it healthier if it was, but processed cheese also made of hydrogenated vegetable oils and skim milk. Believe it or not, the toppings on pizza are usually the healthiest part unless the pepperoni is junk pepperoni containing fillers in the form of wheat flour and vegetable oils. And because all of these ingredients would make the pizza taste like cardboard, ungodly amounts of processed salt containing maltodextrin is added for flavor. That is why Pizza is unhealthy. Not because of saturated fat, it’s because of highly processed flour, sugar, salt and vegetable oils.

To a dietetic student and a personal trainer the pizza part is hilarious because people expect trainers to be experts in biochemistry and understand why eating pizza can be bad. The truth is if a trainer does not have a nutrition credential it is outside of the scope of practice for that person to offer this kind of advice. But all of this being said I’ve met plenty of “that guy”.

You can still eat what you want and get in shape. The trick is just to moderate and make a good balance while getting the exercise in.

*NATURAL BODYBUILDER HERE* Pizza is actually not only far from the worst, but it's pretty good. For my 70-72 kg body and daily activity I need about 2400 calories to sustain my weight, and about 140 grams of protein to gain muscle. Frozen pizza (from the store) generally has between 210 to 240 calories and 9 to 12 grams of protein per 100 grams, and they are normally 345 grams. That makes it on average about 740 calories and up to 35-40 grams of protein. Eating 3 pizzas in a day will get me extremely close to my target. I can actually lose weight if I eat 3 pizzas a day on the lower end of caloric load. *EDIT* In addition to that they are mixture of different ingredients - vegetables and meat. Even the cheese pizzas are pretty good, and actually on the higher end of protein.
