I truly believe this piece of music to be the British Winterreise. The music MEANS the poetry. So lonely, lost, utterly bewitching. It haunts me every time I prepare and play it. Thanks for posting my old teacher playing it. Heaven. Nick Daniel

This is exquisite. Words can't describe it really. Very heart wrenching and such an expressive performance from the ensemble.

Superb. I wasn't aware of Peter Warlock's music. Sounds a lot like the music I'm always trying to compose... Great performers. I'll go for Part 2 as soon as it will be available. Thank you Karen.

@nicholasdanieloboe Thank you so much for viewing. I am very familiar with your wonderful playing, of course. I fully agree on this work. Sorry I haven't been able to finish part 2 yet. I subscribed to your channel, by the way.

No, sorry, but this tenor's name IS Ian Partridge. This recording was made in 1973. Bostridge was only 9 years old then. Look up Partridge on the Internet.

This version is quite exceptional. I heard Ian Partridge many times beginning from the late sixties until the nineties. His voice was quite distinctive and unlike any of his contemporaries: it possessed an effective and deeply expressive quality, which was always a joy to listen to. A great evangelist too, in both of Bach's great passions, and an effective lieder singer. I have all his records and treasure my collection.

Simply stunning, unremittingly melancholy and in that respect quite different from On Wenlock Edge which adds a touch of humour. What a brilliant characterisation below (@nicholasdanieloboe), as the British Winterreise. This captures the essence perfectly. For a 2012 version by Ian Bostridge, as haunting as this but with a voice notably distinct, see www.contraclassics.com/browser/artist:1546. Both versions are brilliant!
