Heard this on the radio in my car today and was really taken with it. It seems to have its detractors in the comments but I think it is an imaginative and inspired piece. Rubenstein and Ormandy seem to be enjoying it, that's more than good enough for me.

This scene in the movie to me is one of the most powerful in classic films. Dana Andrews' character was blind when he composed the concerto. As he listens to the performance after regaining his sight, he is recalling memories of his life and being blind. I guess many people aren't impressed with the virtuosity of both the acting and directing and see only the soap

Unable to locate in the Arthur Rubinstein collection. This music is mesmerizing. I bought the DVD for the story, the acting, and most of all this Master Concerto by two of the 20th centuries pianist and conductor. Elegance, Style and Class never go out of style as long as there is music like this to remind us of the love of the soul. Thanks for the upload. MSA.

A great scene from a terrific movie. Very cool to see Dana Andrews, playing the composer, and Hoagy Carmichael, the best friend, back in the stairwell, digging the composition's premiere. Very cool to see Rubinstein and Ormandy in their prime. Very VERY cool to see Ormandy conducting the NYPO without a baton!

Execrable music. Pop drivel masquerading as longhair modernism. 1947's equivalent of New Age crossover. Makes Richard Addinsell's Warsaw Concerto seem pretty estimable in comparison, not to mention Bernard Herrmann's Salammbo in Citizen Kane. But an entertaining document of Rubinstein hamming it up. The crash cymbals sound like garbage can lids. And where is Ormandy's baton?

Pretty lame stuff but the rubes in the peanut galleries love such display. Yes a few nice themes but the "style" does not seem genuine but highly manufactured to be a movie concerto.
