Where to eat in Rarotonga, Cook Islands

This is the final video in our 3-part Rarotonga vlog series! It's safe to say that food in Rarotonga really exceeded our expectations. The fish was so fresh it felt like it was caught only a few hours before it reached our plates. Check out this episode to find out all the great local spots that we managed to hit up during our time in the Cook Islands.
We're sure there were a bunch of other fantastic spots that we missed out on, but guess that means we'll just need to make another trip back to Raro one day :) If you're from Rarotonga or you've been there before, let us know where else we should try next time we visit the Cook Islands.
Here's a list of all the places we managed to cover in this Rarotonga food vlog though:
1. Charlies Cafe and Beach Hire - Awesome lil spot. You can either get a mean feed or rent a kayak and snorkel to venture out into the beach which is right next door. Their sandwiches are huge!
Address: Ara Tapu, Takitumu District, Cook Islands
Hours: Monday - Saturday 11am-9pm
2. Trader Jacks - Just the thought of this place still brings smiles to our faces. The crayfish tail we had was so good we came here a second time and ordered the same dish. Peter also got the ika mata here (not shown in the video unfortunately) but believe us, it was amazing!

Hours: Monday - Thursday 11am - 11pm
Friday 11am-3am
Saturday 11am-12am
3. The Waterline Restaurant and Beach Bar - One of the most beautifully located restaurants we went to during our stay in Rarotonga. Right next to the beach and in a charming wooden beach hutt. Also houses the best pina colada Peter has ever had.

Lunch - Tuesday - Friday 11:30am - 2pm
Dinner - Tuesday - Sunday from 6pm till late
4. The Mooring Fish Cafe - We heard from our Cook Island friends that this is where locals from Rarotonga go to get a great lunch.
Address: Avana Fishing Club near Ngatangiia District, Cook Islands
Hours: Monday - Saturday 10:30am-3:30pm
5. Bite Time Cafe - This place surprised us with the quality of the ika mata and tuna. We ended up eating here after the Raemaru trek which you can see the whole video in: • Top 5 Things to do in ...

@@PeterandYen I'm not sure but I think Aitutaki Island is on your itinerary? If so that is where my Dad's family is from and family members own a few hotels there, Popoara Ocean Breeze Villa and Aitutaki Village. I would like too also suggest that if you are able? to try and visit One Foot Island and Maungapu as it overlooks the vista of Aitutaki. I also recommend trying out the buffet at Cocoputt in Rarotonga as I have a cousin who's name is Tokz and he is the head Chef and owner of the venue. I hope the weather comes out for you guys for your remaining stay in the Cooks. Kia Manuia!

Bali is the same too, many of the smaller island nations do this to prevent the whole island being bought over by investors. I think it's a really smart move and keeps the very limited land in the hands of the people. Facts sections are fun for us to put together too 😁👍

Just got back from Raro. We normally avoid the resorts, but found the Crown Beach resort Oasis restaurant to be one of our favorite stops. Their Rib Eye steak on Fridays was the best steak I’ve ever had. Everything they serve is delicious. Affordable too. Great video!

One thing that really impressed us was that the the people really make a huge effort to keep the island as clean as possible. The only time I saw some plastic trash was when someone was picking it up to recycle it. It is an awesome example for other island nations.

That's right.. Weather is no problem when you're on a holiday. That fish sandwich is massive! That mahi mahi from that second place though. That's my favorite (Maria) fish! All of these food spots are great hang out places. We would be happy with those drinks and live music. That lemon cake! Yum!

If you have the chance fly over to Aitutaki 45mins flight.. U will be blown away with the tropical waters there amazing views n local food. Is crazy... Specially the raw fish.. Hahaha yeah our tip for the weather was arrive in April may, September and October. We arrived in late March and sure enough it was raining on all the March days and cleared up as soon as it was April 😂

The raw tuna with coconut milk is definitely one of the most popular dishes not just for cook island but for many Pacific islands. It makes the best use of local produce. We love it so much been eating that since I was a kid 😊❤

Oh yes ive tried palace burgers :) i love them! I usually have one when i go home. I get the wet cheese burger or the wet fish burger. If you want extra sauce in your burger.. whatever it is just say wet* before it lol the sauce is soo simple yet it just make these burgers damn juicy snd so good lol but to warn you palace burger virgins.. its a very messy burger so take extra wet wipes to clean your hands and mouth.. if not.. there is a tap behind the shop :) 😍😍😍

All the food looks amazing. Some of the facts about Rarotonga is really interesting haha especially the cleanest village comp. Maaaaan all that seafood makes me want to go Rarotonga!! How long do you think you need to spend in Rarotonga?

I reckon if you wanna do it right you should go for a minimum of a week and visit aitutaki too. The longer the better though cause you'll find you start falling in love with the place. Super family friendly too I think cause is safe and the waters shallow for the kids.
