Peterbilt 359 rebuild ep 42 - lighting upgrade

upgrading headlights to led's and wiring the bumper lights.
having some issues with missing some footage hopefully ill get that issue worked out soon and the rest of the interior video's up.

In my opinion he is one of the best old school heavy duty mechanics/fitters around. There isn’t anything he’s not good at. Pure natural talent with common sense. Excellent. I just put on a new HERD bumper. It was expensive but, cheaper than a new hood. I also have all LED lights on my truck. I wish I could send you a picture of my truck. It always amazes me when someone thinks they know better than the manufacturer about wiring. I’m fighting a JD tractor right now that looks like the three stooges had a hand in. The Pete is really taking shape and the lights are great. Your having all the fun. Thanks

Ol Red is looking better and better as soon as you get it done I'll be out to pick it up and bring it home with me lol only problem with led headlights is in winter they want melt the snow and ice off there self where they don't get hot but I think a few more lites and you might be seen then I always liked my lights but keeping them working all the time but not as bad now with leds the wire's don't heat up and you can run 10 to1 compared to the old incandescent ones but stay safe , stay healthy , stay busy and keep the video's coming

Hello, yes the wires do not heat up at all only when there is poor contact on the connector, or a short circuit in the network. LED lamps are bad in the cold, they constantly blink, you need to install ordinary incandescent lamps.

It’s educational to find out how someone half assed repairing the wiring. The polarity sensitive LEDs probably saved a short down the road due to improperly wired headlights.

Was going to say that the pins were most likely swapped around. I used to install a ton of HID's and all kinds if aftermarket lights at one of the indie shops I worked at many years ago, and it wasn't uncommon to have to de-pin a connector and switch them. They look awesome and so much more modern. Nice work man! 3 deer with the other truck is something awful!!! Wow. Old red is looking better and better everytime I see her. I always think to myself when I watch your vidjas- Man what a pretty truck!!!!👍😉

Ok EZ please don't get mad but helpful (I hope) suggestion on your wiring both in the sleeper and again now with your bumper lights please use that plastic wire loom covering, you will be saving yourself a hole boatload of headaches later down the road.....I found that out the hard way...thanks for the video😊

Thst plastic corrugated wire loom cover is crap. Water, dirt and salt are trapped inside all the time. Properly protect your connections and you don't need to cover the wires, they already have insulation.

You could always cut a couple circular holes in the bumper and mount a couple high powered spot lights as well and that would make a massive difference.

I hate electrical issues. Just can see the problem like mechanical issues. Great call on the copper tubing. You might be able to market that. Thats perfect material for where its located with road debris ricocheting off the inside fender. The lights look superb. Add more!

I lived in northern Wisconsin for 35 years. In that period of time I hit at least 15 deer. I only hit 1 ,the rest ran into my truck. Front end, Quarter fender, and misc all over the trailer. Suckers come out of the ditch line and POW got another one.

Great job on the lights. Very smart idea to use the copper tubing, forms easy. Sure like your channel. I had a red 84 Pete that was red, but had the sandle wood colored interior. 400 Cat with a 15 speed. I like your interior better. Take care.

You need the big deluxe moose guard, only way to prevent/minimize damage. I've hit about 15 deer in 30 yrs. 2 yrs ago I hit one that leapt across road at night, dead center, $16k damage, coulda been worse. Great videos btw.

Where the wires enter the copper pipe is a chafe point. If you can, sleeve them with clear plastic tubing.

Led's are polarity sensitive, and older autocars compound the issue by running one hot out in what would be the ground wire position and then control which beam gets ground. You can buy an adapter harness with a couple of relays to be able to install leds. I guess more manufacturers than autocar use that method. I'm not sure why but it's seems to be a more complicated way of getting the job done.
