This guy is like a few other channels on YT where actual work is done so he doesn't get ALL the truck loving population just the ones that either work on them or want to learn how. The channels with big sub counts do goofy kid shit and are basically like bob the builder channels. They have other people do the real work and then do cosmetic stuff themselves and the truck never sees real commercial use. Ezra is not one of those, coming from someone that does this too, he's the real deal. Honestly I have no idea why anybody would start a YT channel nowadays with all the BS, especially when fools like whistling weezul and Broooce Wilson are considered "truck" channels. But Ezra deserves a few hundred thousand so at least it'll pay for his time filming.

My boss asked me if I could handle an 18 speed. I said sure. 13, 15, 15 over. All the same I thought. He had bought a brand new 379 Pete. 1989. It was his personal truck, but he only drove it from the dealership. I took a load of coffee beans to Nashville, didn't sleep a wink, all night. Nervous about the truck. 18 speed is a simple, wonderful transmission. My favorite. Enjoyed the video! Great job !

You need a set of 6-8“ long line up bolts to put your flywheel on and off. Same for the clutch and transmission. Using those line up bolts make it so much easier. Also you can’t get your fingers stuck under the flywheel in the bell housing.

I agree 100% my Uncle taught me that nifty lil Trick many years ago. I keep long Line Up Bolts for about every big Truck Job (Rear Ends, Power Dividers, Trans, etc) in my Toolbox, and treat them like they are the Holy Grail.i never let anyone use them, borrow them, etc. If I even catch anyone looking at them, I am on them like white on rice. Lol Their not the easiest Bolts in the world to find.

Never used a jack to remove a 14" clutch before but that jack would have come in handy for all the 15" clutches I've done. I started typing this while watching and realized your swapping over to a 15. Our alignment tool was an old input shaft with the main gear spline cut off and a 1/2 bolt welded on to make a removable t-handle. Most of the trucks we worked on were used in off road heavy construction, lots of dump and cement, 24" rubber tires, and I'm not talking about the 24.5 they have today I'm talking old school, huge Hendrix and Mack camel back susp. double and triple frame rails. And we didn't have a mag drill so if you were adding a tool box to the side you were leaning into a drill for awhile. Great music! Good luck!

Only did it once - pulled my input shaft out before knocking out the wooden blocks holding the throw-out bearing in released position. Anyone who's done it knows what I'm talking about. Nice upgrade from a deep dish 14 clutch to a 15.5 - didn't see any vibration spacers when you pulled the original clutch. Plus for those who don't know, when you cut a deep dish flywheel not only do you cut the inside surface you cut the flange also. Great video - thanks bringing us along!

when i am putting u-joints in, i hang the driveshaft from the frame with a small ratchet strap. that is how i like to do a repair...if i touch it and it wont last a good few years i replace it. much cheaper to do it while your in there than taking it all apart again or along side the road with a service truck. very enjoyable video ezra.

Good video as always. A tip my old man taught me- Always slide the clutch discs on and off the tranny input shaft a few times on the floor. It makes sure there's no burrs and kind of lapps them together. Then you can be 100% confident it'll all slide together smooth in the truck.

The wonderful beauty of a Peterbilt... rebuildable forever, especially the hood trucks. Maybe not the newer narrow cabs (some of those are cheaply made) but the long and short hoods are rebuildable forever. In a "prior life," I did what you're doing and more, including overhauling engines. If that's a 1983, that's probably an 855 Big Cam. After the 855 and the N-14, we suffered with the ISX for nearly twenty years. That ISX was an absolute disaster; many, many, many of those engines had complete overhauls before 300,000 miles. Very few people know the truth behind that engine; that entire debacle was all attributable to poor quality steel... junk metal. Now Cummins has the X-15; we'll have to see how that one survives. I loved CAT engines (still do) but the 855 and the N-14 were fabulous engines as well... maybe the best ever. You're doing great; it looks good. I watch you working under there and I can feel myself right under there doing the work. Life is grand! New subscriber.

the 2000-06 isx were good engines less some egr/cooler issues everyone struggled with dpf, isx defiantly had a run of a lot of problems in the 08-13 or so range hopefully they have it sorted out now. this truck has a big cam 3

i'm impressed you always do the work single handedly where a job that had an extra set of hands would make it easier. gotta get the wife in the videos again. she's probably the one doing the excellent video editing and choreographing of the videos. obvious a bit of hard work goes into them. GREAT idea with your clutch hanger! a thought for you Ezra. regarding hanging the flywheel, we would take some old head bolts (they're grade 8) of proper size, cut the head off, rethread if need be and use one or two as doll pins screwed into the crank to hang that HEAVY flywheel to allow to put in a few bolts before removing the pins. worked great!!! it's been years, cant remember if i d the same for the clutch(?). Your a young fella that relies heavily on your eyes. It would be good to see you wear eye pro. jobs that you would think that eye pro isn't necessary WILL get you. ask me how i know.... Anyway Ezra, another excellent video. always enjoy watching a master in action!

What a treat seeing this baby go into Old Red first thing in the morning!!! That 6 puck twin disk looks nice! Flywheel looks good too and possibly a little lighter by design. Would be nice if it is actually lighter you'll feel it rev up quicker due to less parasitic drag. I've had ltw flywheels on a bunch of my cars and it's a huge upgrade that you can really feel. Don't know much about those in the rig world though. Great work, and I really dig that input shaft adapter for your jack. Creative and looks like it works extremely well. Might as well save your back when you can. Nothing worse than being on the ground 'bench pressing' drivetrain parts with dirt and rust going in your face. Nice job as always man! 👍👍😎
