wellll, i'm sure he's making a few dollars between youtube and patreon ... he must've made some to justify that big shop and to buy all these projects. so idk if "giving" is the proper description, but he's definitely very hard working and dedicated and consistent

I worked at a paint and body shop right out of high school with an actual paint booth, and I still cut and buffed every vehicle. I think you did a great job on your paint, and as far as ever knew in my time at the body shop cut and buff was just part of having a quality finished product
@MikeInBendOregon49 минут бұрын
It all depends on how good the painter is... A really good painter can lay material down like glass. Cutting and buffing is primarily a way to fix mistakes. Anyone can spray paint, but there aren't a lot of people that paint correctly... Before Mark started spraying material, I made a couple suggestions that would have all but eliminated all of the orange peel, thus eliminating the need to sand and buff the entire truck, but they weren't followed. But in his defense, at the time, everyone and their brother was posting suggestions so I can see where it probably got a little overwhelming.

I know your a bit of a perfectionist, and that's justified, but really look a the reflection in the door on how deep you can see into your shop. Pretty sure i can see into the future with that reflection. GREAT JOB SIR!!!

As you put years into the ownership of that truck, you'll keep giving it a polish and knocking down a little texture every time. It's just material adding to the longevity of the paint job. Work on it until you're happy and then live with it. The only things you can really do is add material or remove material. If you're done adding material, you've got all the time in the world to remove whatever bothers you. Keep rolling, get it back on the road, and put one in the done column. You can always revisit.

It's certainly blue... I really like the color. I'm trying to be nice and keep my comments positive for a change 🙂. It's really hard for me not to point out mistakes and explain why they happened. It's just one of my character flaws. I don't do it to beat people up, I like to help people, but it doesn't always come across that way. I commend you for all of the effort you put into your projects, and for learning how to do new things.

A piece of glass with a sharp/broken edge works well for runs and sags in paint. Use a little water for lubricant and hold it flat against the panel sliding it over the run and it will only cut away the run.

hey Mark. I wanted to share a tip for you to try. When I was taught how to buff paint, I was told to always keep the surface wet. Water spray bottle. like how you wet it down when you are wet sanding, use that same method when buffing. use that method for primary and final cut. even glaze coat/wax coat it is very effective. even when I put a basic coat of carnauba wax on my cars I always have a chaser bottle of water. it helps keep the polish wet longer. edit: sorry I should've added. primary cut with wool pad Milwaukee polisher secondary cut with medium cut foam pad Milwaukee polisher glaze or wax with a fine cut foam pad DA polisher

Looks like a nice haul from the mailbox there Mark. Much like water will eventually wear away the hardest rock denim is remarkably abrasive just very very slow. I have a very shiny bare steel pocket knife. It started out as a matte black finish when I got it new back in 2008 but 16 years in the back pocket of my jeans hopping in and out of trucks as well as bouncing along the road the last remaining bits of that matte finish finally wore away from constant butt polishing.

Mark. As i said weeks ago, get some 3D ACA 510 compound. It will make your life so much easier. Ive used it alone with just a wool pad to take out orange peel on bad paint jobs. I would still go with the 1500/3000 wet sanding first before compounding though to get the best results. My job is detailing for used car dealers and im the one that has to fix the mess that the 'cheap' bodyshops make. I would also leave that paint longer to fully cure otherwise you can get fall back and the sanding marks you thought were gone can re-appear. When using the rotary with wool pad, you should add more tilt so your using the 1/3 outer edge of the pad to buff as thats the area that gives the most cut. . Obviously only do this on flat panels, not edges, and keep the machine moving but slow enough that the pad and compound can do their work. Holding the wool pad flat greatly reduces the cut. Dont be scared of it, that clearcoat is much harder than the single stage paints and you sort of need to show it who is boss. If you put the effort and time in, theres no reason you cant get that paint job so it looks close to 100% perfect.

Merry Christmas Mark and to Mrs. Twinstick! LBL is looking amazing. Awsome tricks to remove the clearcoat drips! Didn't think it would come out that well! Although you got a lot of cool viewer mail in the past, ever since I sent you the Smokey and Bandit tribute, it seems I had set the bar for viewer's gifts. Not that I was trying to do so! That Neon sign is right up there on the "Coolest Things in the Shop" as you so eloquently coined the fraise when you received Snowman and Bandit!!! Mark you don't have to use the polisher with the Milwaukee rotary..the denim works but there's 3 different grits of denim. ( Fine coarse, medium.. Simply wet sand with 1000 1500 or 2000 grit on a flat surface. Which ever combination it takes the least effort to satisfy you. Then use the DA to polish it. Around 2000 rpm..If it doesn't look how you want use 3000 grit You want to go slow really slow in a criss cross ( take a 2' square section go up and down then go left to right. Wipe down. Should be polished enough .you don't need to do rotary and da...da is less risky and allows you to not burn through...watch videos of how auto detailing guys use their DA buffer...

Hey Mark, you really need to do 800, 1000, 1500, 2000, 3000... That's a big jump to go from 800 to 3000 - it's going to take a very very long time to get all those scratches out. Also suggest getting a rubber 3M squeegee block for any wet sanding (primer or color sanding). You can wipe away the mess without leaving any marks (ha!) then it'll flash dry in a few seconds and allow you see how much more needs to be sanded. Kevin Tetz (paintucation) has some great info on his channel that also might help you. Love the color!
