Peterbilt 359 Restoration Ep.64 Lincoln Str8 Pipes

In this episode, I upgrade the 6” exhaust pipes I bought off the previous owner of this truck and upgraded to the absolutely amazing 8” two-piece Lincoln Chrome pipes. I chose to go with miter (slash) cut tops with a 114” top stack length. These measure out just over 13’ from the ground which is nice as they are still “legal” being under 13’6” and will fit nicely through my 14’ shop doors. They are extremely well-built thick-walled pipes that fit together like a glove with the joint nicely hidden under the lower mount. The only downside to such quality pipes is they are a little stout and somewhat of a challenge to install by yourself … I recommend getting a friend to help you install yours.
I couldn’t be happier with the finished product … they look and sound absolutely awesome … enjoy the installation and the final result for yourself in this video. The old 3406 Cat with the Jakes on has never sounded better!

I am getting cold chills, when I hear the sound of those pipes. Just like when I heard the truck in smokey and the bandit crank up at the beginning of the movie. I saw the movie at the theater when it first came out. It shook the whole theater. Great child hood memories.

As a guy who started in 1966 grabbing gears, I want to mention there is a very cool invention called the muffler. It make driving rather pleasant. Dropping down a 15 mile 12% grade in an off highway truck grossing 250,000 pounds and a straight pipe coming out of the hood, I was so happy to get a truck with a muffler. I lost my hearing driving with straight stacks. They may look 'cool," but they are painful over time.

Nice, man! I've never driven twin or multiple sticks. And I've only driven stick and split. As an european only DAF had non syncro trannys. I've driven those too. I have never sat in an american truck. Not many of those working in my neck of the woods. So I stick with Scania and their V8s. My first was a 140 with 350 hp. The top model today is an R series with 770 hp which I regret to say I've never driven. But then again, I'm 72 and retired. Good luck with your projects, I love to see what you do. Make sure you have good secure cab mounts when you do your final bodywork. All that weight bouncing around can pull your mounts right out. I have seen it happen before. I like em...
