Interesting FACT BJ and the Bear , MY DAD WAS THE DRIVER , Greg Evigan didn’t do the driving scenes. My pops RIP was the Union honey wagon driver anybody who knows about movies knows what the honey wagon is it, is the semi that pulls the dressing rooms and They asked my dad if he was interested in driving the semi in the moving scenes I was only three years old at the time but I was able to watch the show on video later in life. My dad also drove the semi in the movie DUEL which was Steven Spielberg’s first motion picture. Both BJ and the bear and Duel were filmed in Southern California.

I remember High Ballin from when I was a small child. I still every so often watch the movie to bring back some good old day nostalgia, always brings a smile to my face. It was never a big budget film amd that is what I liked about it! The movie had such a nice humble feeling about it. Grab a blanket lay on the couch and watch this movie on a cold winters night. I cant say enough about it. The simplicity made it interesting for me and I cant forget Jerry Reed what a cool guy.

The truck used in the movie high ballin was the truck my dad bought in 79. The movie was filmed in Oakville and Milton ont. And he bought it from the kw dealership on Dixie rd. In mississauga after they were finished filming. I'll have to root around in the basement for the pics. I have lots. Pretty cool trip down memory lane tho.

We seem to be having a Jerry Reed thing going on here. Which is no bad thing. His outtakes on Smokey and the Bandit were hilarious! The man could sing a song as well. RIP Jerry. With aluminium frames they can of course be cut shorter and whatever suspension holes needed re-drilled but I would doubt its OK to cut a length out of the middle and re-weld. At best it would need flitch panels inside the chassis legs at the join. (Not my personal choice) If you do take it home that Torsion Bar suspension should be kept. Its classic old school and most importantly its original. She is a beauty though. Being a Brit the cabovers are all we use apart from a few Scania T models used for bulk work as we have length restrictions. Easy to work on just take the TV set off the bunk before tilting or it visits the windscreen!

I feel like this one should come home and be the one that pulls the step deck in the future. The truck that you use to go out and save other trucks. I could see this one (at least one you got a bigger property and more shop space) pulling into the driveway way with two new projects on the step deck. It would be kinda fitting since he hauled cars, you'd just be hauling large cars.

Very nice K100. I know one other Kenworth W900b here in Finland with that same torsion bar suspension. The truck came here brand new in the early 80s. Finnish truck manufacturer Sisu would have liked to buy a patent for that torsion bar suspension, but did not receive it. Sisu commonly used Cummins engines and Fuller / Eaton transmissions. In terms of technology and construction, it was very much the same as American trucks.

I agree with those who say to shorten it up, and keep the torsion bars. Worst case scenario, get new frame rails from Kenworth. There are already plenty of BJ McKay replicas (and a couple of restored originals). You would have a perfect start to the Pilot Episode tractor, however (actual show used the K100C 108" Aerodyne). I like it. (Well I don’t actually, rough riding rattly worn out turds of things those old cabovers, heaps of them here in Australia) If the price is right I doubt you’d loose money by being the temporary custodian. Do whatever is is you can to keep mice out, sort turbo, start it every few months. If you don’t get to it, move it on. Good bones. I’m sure you could either part double rail it, or just re-drill/mount an 8 bag to those rails, shortened to loose the cracked bit of frame if repair is not practical. You could do with a 4 truck pole barn 😂
