A welder who knows what they are doing should not have an issue welding that bumper bracket. Cast aluminum welding is what separates the men from the boys. And your other brackets that have the holes can easily be plug welded and sanded flush. Be like they were never there. Awesome content. Glad to see you're back on the daily upload schedule!

Chock the tires and back off slack adjusters in the back, then readjust when done. No need for caging bolts by doing that and can move around with no air. Get the bolts to have them though.
@460EFI4 жыл бұрын
It's really common for those ears to break on the aluminum horns. They don't take even minor hits very well. Catch a curb or even a coyote on the road, and it can break them.
@GavinS64 жыл бұрын
you only need to back the brakes off of axles that have parking brake chambers. the front won't have them and one of the rear axles may not have parking brake with service brake. but a 5/16 wrench or the snap on truck has the square socket for those and you have to release the button on the back of the slack to back that style off. or it may be 7/16 and that style doesn't have a release button to back them off. it will be harder to back them off without the brakes release but they will with some extra grunt. also when you weld that bracket up you could cut a flat piece of steel or aluminum to lay over the top of the existing bracket that bolts on to the top as well so you have all four bolts through your new plate. if you use steel make sure you put something between the brackets and flat piece. of course this way will make it stronger but it will make your bumper stick out the thickness of the plate used.
@davidsmith72844 жыл бұрын
Greg those break off all the time. I had mine welded on my truck then had a plate made that connects all the bolt holes to stiffen it up

Those bars going from the bumper to the frame are weak, when you put the new bumper use angle iron and make your own supports. Will be much stronger. Woth the wind pushing the bumper those factory supports will allow the bumper to bend over time. We use angle iron to make ours and the child up much better.

Have you thought about taking the bocks in the front and putting them on top of the leaf springs then it will be lower an you can use the same bolts.

For the headlights, you might want to take a look at Dapper Lighting for their true projector style 4x6 lights. might only be limited on the depth available. specs are on the website but says they are only 3.2" deep without a bulb in them. just thought i would mention them instead of possibly using the cheap chinese housings that everyone is selling on ebay. either way cant wait to see more of the rig getting done.

If you have a dryer in your basement, you should be able to use the dryer outlet to power your welder. They both should be 30 amp 220v and the plug should plug right in. If not, you can always buy some 10/4 cable and make up an extension cord, we have 480v cords in our plant just for our welders.

If you have a dryer in your basement where your garage is or you can run a cord to the dryer plug to your welder and I’ll be right there in front of your truck I don’t think it’s going to make much of a difference or if you have a long enough cord on the welder or you can turn around and run it to the dryer but it adapter on it good video keep up the good works nice to see him every day good video

I've worked on many 379 Pete's that had huck bolt problems. It's pretty common for the huck bolts to work loose and sometimes even snap over time as the cab and sleeper twist and rock going down the road and the common fix is to knock the old Huck bolt out and just insert a carriage bolt in its place. I'm guessing that's what's probably happened over the year. Carriage bolts have slowly been replacing the broken huck bolts over the years.
@iowacummins244 жыл бұрын
It’d be some extra work but weld the end caps onto the headlights, grind and sand them smooth. It’s a lot of extra work but the extra detail is so worth it. Recommending trucklite brand 4x6s. They are led and Don’t have that new age projector looking lense. only down fall is they are not heated and tend to ice over. As for the front fender supports the newer style 389 brackets will not fit. Curvature of the fenders and the piece between the hood and fender itself it’s narrower on a 389 vs a 379 due to the 389 hood being slightly wider. And pro tip. Brace the hell out of the bottom of that 20” bumper.

I would look at the jeep yj headlights. They may work in the semi. Then you can have alot of options
@brettensmith73054 жыл бұрын
Where did you get those headlights and blinkers for the 379 and can we hear the air horn
@1012Mrjesse4 жыл бұрын
If it’s cast iron, use a high nickel content electrode. Anything above 50% nickel content is what you should use to weld cast iron. If it’s aluminum, then just clean the hell out of it and basically bake the thing to get any sort of impurities out of it

There is usually caging bolts on the side of each brake can unless somebody removed them off of those break cans and the other option is just backing off the slack adjusters so that way the brakes release

Those spring hangers are about $900. The bumper bracket breaks off very easily and I have welded several of them up. Bolting a piece of steel plate between them and the bumper will help reinforce them.

Matched JW speaker 8800 headlights, polish the entire housing and just run the amber led as a turn signal only. If you want running lamps throw some air filter lights and some pocket lights on the sides of the bumper. If it's all polished there's almost no need to tint the signal lens because that will nearly disappear in the full polish. Just my pair of pennies.
